I really shouldn’t be entertaining new fic ideas when I’m already rewriting ‘the House of the High One’, but here we are.

I just want to write how devastated Astarion would be to learn there are vampire lords out there that are nothing like Cazador. Dayedan’s old employer, Dragos, was called “Papa” by his spawn, whom he showered with gifts, privilege, and some twisted version of “free will”. They could do as they pleased as long as they followed orders when given, and if their extracurriculars served him to some end.

How heartbreaking that Astarion feels so unlucky to not only become a vampire spawn but also get a cruel master, one who enjoyed his cries.

How magnificent it must be to hear from Dayedan that Dragos died bloody, and with his death Dayedan was free?

Does he feel bad for the spawn Dragos left behind? People who share his curse but who were also nurtured, pampered pets for a while—now lost, confused, and at the mercy of the world?

Dragos was not in any way a good man, but Astarion wonders how drastically changed his life would be if he had been sired by a different kind of villain.

Reminder & Spoiler to BG3 fans who haven't romanced Gale in any of your playthroughs.

GALE DIDNT KNOW IT WAS THE KARSITE WEAVE

Him being a god was not the initial thought process. Him pursuing the weave against Mystra's wishes was like him trying to buy a rare stone for a proposal ring and getting a uranium instead of a diamond.

Was he an idiot, who thought he knew better about retrieving weave? Yes.

Malicious and narcissistic? No. not really

People pleaser tendencies gone extreme? definitely

Him wanting to be a god by the end is him lashing out because he realizes his worth and it dawns on him Mystra abandoned him. It is also a desperate attempt to find a cure to his orb because he defied Mystra after act 2 (which is also under your persuasion) when he was already in hot water with her. He is under the impression that any civility or chances he has for Mystra's forgiveness is gone and his orb is still very much active.

Gale is just very human who doesn't really understand what cards he has and what he could play in a game with gods

Is he being stupid again by wanting to pursue godhood? Yes

Is he lashing out? Probably for some but for me definitely

Is he tired of being gods' plaything/pawn in their plans? Absolutely

Can you blame him after everything you see in act 1 & 2 with Ketheric, Shadowheart and even Lae'zel. The evil gods prey on you and the so called good ones abandon you.

I want Astarion hurt/comfort when he’s not remotely attractive. He’s dirty and gross, there’s something matted in his hair and he doesn’t even want to imagine what it is. He’s sick, he’s coughing up something disgusting and his voice sounds terrible, or he had some bad blood and now he’s got a very upset tummy in the most unpleasant way. He’s injured, really injured in ways that hurt to even look at, and he’s in too much pain to even try to be charming. He’s never looked less sexy, at least in front of Tav who wasn’t around for the rat eating era.

And guess what? He still gets love and care. He still gets treated tenderly even when he isn’t something pretty to look at. Like maybe that’s not the only thing of value about him.

So what animals are y’alls Tavs turning into for those polymorph/wild magic/wild shape crack shenanigans?

We know Astarion’s a goose, Karlach is a mean goat, Gale’s probably a cat/tressym, Minthara’s a displacer beast—

Dayedan is definitely a fennec fox: he’s 30% ears, 30% rage, 40% concentrated power of will. If Karlach is herself, he’s playing keep away from her because quote “I don’t CARE if that fox is actually a grown man, I will DIE if I don’t smooch his pointy little face” unqoute

They have to carry him around until the spell wears off because (like goostarion) he gets into too much trouble when left alone. Gale is scrambling to keep ahold of him as he squirms like a pissed off ferret

NPC: Oh! They’re adorable, can I pet them?

Gale: That’s extremely ill-advised, actually. He’s bitten several people just today and he will bite again.

Addition:

After he’s done being FURIOUS that he, a respectable artificer and wizard was turned into an adorable little creature and smooched within an inch of his life by a very pushy tiefling—he has a bit of an existential crisis that the spell is taking so long to wear off
