With burning, tear-stained eyes, Gun stared at his phone’s excruciatingly bright screen, its light seeming to brutally laugh back at him. His fingers hovering over the keyboard, representing the blankness of his conscious mind as he read those words. Every second seems to consume his already wasted energy, hands trembling. Biting down on his already bloody under lip, he tried to make sense of it all.
“This is what happens when you betray me” Charles Choi had harshly typed through the screen, following with a picture of Goo’s lifeless body lying on the floor.
Gun felt an unimaginable sense of despair as he stared at the lifeless phone screen. He couldn't fathom the idea that Goo was no more. His mind raced, he needed to do something, anything. He couldn’t bring himself to stand properly.
His emotions were a cocktail of denial and despair. Finally, it dawned on him that Goo was actually not in his life anymore. Unable to process the information, something inside him snapped and he suddenly lost it. Gun threw the phone on the ground in frustration, watching it break into small pieces. His hands trembling, he looked at the pieces of the phone and the shattered reality. The phone had gone silent, just like Goo's life.
Gun sank to his knees, the pain and agony finally crept up on him, taking over his entire being with an overwhelming surge of emotions breaking through his defenses. He broke down into tears, crying aloud in despair, grief, and guilt. He had avoided showing any emotion, yet he couldn't help it. His friend was gone and there was nothing he could do. The reality sank in.
Running his hands through his hair, desperately trying to make sense of what had happened, his mind raced of thoughts of what could've been and what should've happened. He had betrayed the man he loved. He thought of their shared times together, their late nights drinking and laughing. They were the best times of his life. He wished he could turn back time and tell him how much he loved him. But most of all, he wanted closure. He should’ve had that drink with him.

//I think part of the joy of writing Naomi is that she's still figuring herself out. She does a lot of stuff externally and very little internally because, after thirteen years of switching between autopilot and just getting by to avoid feeling her feelings, she doesn't know who she is yet. She doesn't have fully formed ideas about her place in the world because, despite her intelligence and observational skills, she just never pointed them inward.
She never gave herself permission to grow past the traumatized girl standing on the side of the ditch. Half the story is her finally accepting that she has to, that she can't keep denying herself progress and growth in some weird penance for surviving the incident that took her family.
It's a coming-of age story about someone who never came of age, even as she got older.
#This is also why I'm not interested in romantic shipping until much later on.#She's just not in a place where she can approach someone as an adult seeking a connection#and that's not about sex either (this blog is sfw anyway); it's emotional maturity. She's just not there yet.#anyway hi.#it's why she hasn't figured out what the mirror's deal is. it's why she keeps reading fairytales and singing lullabies#but struggles with her own poetry or doing anything that requires introspection#she can be creative with furniture and gardening but making something from her heart is much trickier#also her heart (metaphorical) is full of blue gook. So.#to be clear this isn't meant to be infantalizing. She's a grown-ass adult. She's just still in the process of learning what that means
