Preparing for a New Life (A HomeGoods Adventure)

Pairing: Astarion Ancunin x Gender Neutral!Reader/Tav (Modern!AU)

Content Warnings: none (this is just fluff, other than some jokes and banter)

Word Count: 530

Characters: Astarion Ancunin (Do you really need anyone else?, Modern AU!, so no D&D stuff unfortunately :< but it's up to you if you think he's still a vampire or just albino lol)

A/N: This was actually the very first time I wrote Astarion, all the way back in August, I actually wrote most of this while in line at a Homegoods, but I didn't post it until now because I was unsure if it was up to snuff, but look at me now running an Astarion ask blog and investing over 175+ hours in BG3 hahahhahahahah, but I figured that since it's Halloween that I should post this! anyways happy Halloween and enjoy!

Astarion’s nose scrunched up in disgust at the foul thing he was holding in his hand. With its gaudy coloring, itchy texture, and the most egregious thing about it... the damn thing’s smile looking at him. He scoffed and called out to you, “Look at this abomination, they couldn’t even get the colors right.”

You rolled your eyes, “Astarion come on, it’s just trying its best. Besides, it is going to be Halloween soon, let’s get in the spirit of things!”

The pale man clicked his tongue and it looked like he was going to throw the ghost candle onto the floor until you glared at him. He sighed and placed the candle back onto the shelf but not before flicking it down.

“What am I going to do with you, Astarion?”

“Divorce me?”

You took way too long to rebuke his statement for his liking.

“My sweet, I was kidding! Besides, I'm the best thing that’s happened to you, aren’t I?”

Your stoic face broke into laughter as Astarion reminded you of your proposal with pleading eyes.

“Oh you silly silly man, of course I’m not going to divorce you.”

Astarion wrapped his arms around your shoulders and hung off of you, “Of course not! Who would reject the likes of someone as beautiful as me?”

Giggles erupted out of you, “Yeah yeah, I want to show the world my beautiful husband.”

Astarion’s eyes widened as his grasp on you tightened, “You’re such a tease, darling. Besides, I'd never let you get rid of me.”

“I wouldn’t dream of it, besides who else is going to decorate our home?"

“Of course not you, my love. I adore you but your taste is terrible. If I let you decorate our home to your liking, it would be disastrous!”

You lightly punched his elbow.

Astarion dramatically flailed about, “First, you threaten to leave me now you injure me?! How horrible, what did I ever do to deserve this from my beloved!”

You stuck out your tongue, “Oh please, you love me and you know it~”

“Unfortunately yes, I am indubitably in love with you. Although sometimes I regret having my heart in your hands.”

“Yeah because, I’ll throw it on the ground like that candle.”

“Perish the thought!”

“I'm kidding , I'm kidding, I can't help but tease my delicate, silly man.”

Astarion huffed a bit before giving you a kiss on the temple, “Fine, I’ll only allow you the privilege. Besides we need to finish shopping, I don’t want to sleep on anything less than the finest sheets.”

You gave me a kiss on the cheek, “Of course. I can’t wait to go back to our house.”

Astarion hummed along as he perused the aisles with you, not too far behind, pushing the cart full of home decor.

Finally, when you were about to reach the checkout line, you noticed the same ghost candle that Astarion threatened to end the life of. A smile spread across your face as you took it and put it in the cart. Astarion didn’t say anything when he saw it displayed on the mantle instead he was going to punish you later with a smile.

This is to the mod. I forgot to say this way earlier and kept putting off actually doing it cause bad memory and brain being weird, but I adore how you write/interact as Astarion! You don’t try and push his response to lean in favor towards things he wouldn’t normally respond that way to, such as, for example, my first ask! You have him still with his own personal thoughts and characteristics, being true to how he is without trying to push towards what would be considered a more ‘favorable’ response! I love how you captured his character and portray him and have him be true to himself instead of trying to force things! I don’t really know if this makes sense, but hopefully it does?

And really, please don’t worry about updates and such on this blog when irl things are getting in the way or are demanding predominance. You have your own life outside of the blog, out side of offline, and you chose to create this blog so you could do/share your enjoyment of bg3 and Astarion with others. You don’t owe anyone an apology for irl stuff getting bad or stressful, you run this blog in your free time, you are by no means obligated to answer asks or do anything you don’t want to or don’t have the time or energy to. Thank you for creating such a lovely blog and for portraying our beloved pale elf so well!

Hi it’s Ghost here, and omg you’re making me melt. You’re making a lot of sense, I get what you’re trying to say and thank you so much for saying that. I’m always a bit hesitant when roleplaying Astarion since he is a complicated shithead and his actions and words reflect that. And as much as I’d like to give people a favorable response, it just wouldn’t be him at all. It doesn’t feel right, and yes he’s a fictional character and he’s not real but… he’s spent so much of his life not being able to be himself and acts a certain way to be favorable to others. So I guess I’m trying my best to honor the character in a small way, although I don’t blame people writing him to be more favorable. He is a dickhead. Like that’s the point but Jesus, I’ve yelled at my computer screen so many times because of the things he’s disapproved of or the shit he does.

Aren’t I a lovable little scamp?~

*sighs* His character is complicated, it isn’t nice, it isn’t easy, and it most certainly isn’t static. The reason why I love his character so much is because it hits so close to home and it feels so cathartic to watch him in action. I won’t get into here or at least not now, but Astarion makes me feel seen and that I don’t have to be a good person in order to heal. That being said his story serves as a cautionary tale about perpetuating the cycle of abuse, it’s utterly beautiful. He’s constantly shifting despite his stubbornness and flirtatious facade, which is what I’m hoping for in my portrayal of Astarion. I have to rewatch a lot of scenes and listen to his lines a lot just to get the character just right. I’ve roleplayed Astarion in a few voice call sessions with my friends actually, and it’s really fun! Sure I don’t have Neil Newbon’s wonderful accent and the picture perfect voice for him but it doesn’t matter, its the energy and feeling that does. And I read out my dialogue for these asks out loud in my Astarion voice lol, it’s not a good imitation by any means but it’s just my take on the character.

I’m constantly in awe of not only Neil Newbon’s performance but also the writers, the modelers, the artists, the directors, and the entire ensemble that all came together to create our favorite vampire spawn. Honestly it feels so surreal to have a character like Astarion in the world, but I hope there are many others that touch my heart this deeply like he did.

Don’t say that darling, as if they could ever compare to me.

Of course, you’ll always be my favorite. But one thing that always gets me is what Neil Newbon says about playing any of his characters, “I think the main thing is to not to judge a character, I don’t judge a character in good or bad terms. I don’t have villains or heroes, I play characters that are very complicated and have needs and wants and obstacles… You can’t judge the characters, you have to love them, support them on their journey even if you as a human being would never choose that. You have to honor what their story’s about, what their decisions would be based on what the amazing writers have done… you just have to love and support them and hug them through their journey without stopping them, you know?”

And we all know that Astarion needs all the hugs he can get. He’s very lovable even when he thinks that he isn’t. I want to have Astarion be a bit more vulnerable in future ask responses but at the same time, it really depends on the relationship because his whole arc is a slow burn for a reason. It’s literally like pulling teeth to get him to talk about and confront his feelings and issues. Trust me I’ve tried.

You hear a little scoff in the background.

Anyways if you’ve read all this, thank you. As you can tell, I think about Astarion a lot and I’ve always wanted to make an rp blog so I decided eh what the hell, let’s make an Astarion one. I’m blown away by how many of you like my posts and keep coming to see my take on Astarion. I deeply appreciate it and thank you for understanding. Yeah a lot of stuff is happening irl so responses won’t be as quick as I’d like them to be but hopefully it’ll clear up in the future. Because I have a few things planned including a fic that I’ve been thinking about for a while.

Baldur's Gate has over taken my life

So here's a long ass rant about Astarion because I love him so much my heart bursts with love and joy for this man (Everything will be spoilers under the cut so if you have not completed the game make sure you DO NOT read this LOL)

So...I'm not someone who usually rants like this on my blog but it's my blog and well free will is everything so let's go : )

What I really want to talk about is about how much the trauma and his abuse must have warped his mind...over 200 years of it, I can barley comprehend the past 23 for myself but 200 years

Like no wonder he treats everyone a certain way, no wonder his first reaction is to "go hurt someone", perhaps it maybe was in his nature beforehand(?) but we don't know and I don't think he really recalls either! (other than the fact that he was a magistrate all those years ago, which to me, is still kinda funny to think about hehe, but thats most likely because he wasn't the person we meet in BG3)

And thats the thing, once you help him over come the black mass and you enter the cutscene with him and he shares his old grave to you- I almost assumed that maybe it would have been old family members besides him...but no, just himself. Who was Astarion before his embrace? I suppose it doesn't matter anymore since after that moment he resigns that life and proclaims his past self long dead but...the mind does wander at times.

It does make me sad, how it seems as though he must pick and I suppose it's just me being jaded with the idea that one must sacrifice happiness to do the right thing- when idk the idea of having your cake and eating it too it something he deserves after again- 200 YEARS- of horrid abuse

This is NOT to say that I approve of him becoming evil lord 9000, but rather a catapult into the last option you get to say to him at the end of it all with his final cutscene where he asks you "What do you want?"

There is an option where you can suggest that the both of you continue to search for ways to let him walk into the sun together again and if you choose that well he does seem delighted and exclaims if there is a chance he will seize it no matter what (and that it will lead to more adventures together hehe).

My idea was that what if...it was actually a road to having him regain his humanity, you know? Bring him back to life as our dear evanessence would say- and I don't mean that he must sacrifice something to have this and he must suffer more blah blah blah I MEAN SERIOUSLY!

It was a sorta "final adventure", the gangs all here and somehow it becomes more than just that for our beloved vampire man (because of course it does), but at the end of the day, after possibly IDK saving the world for a second time perhaps LMAO- he gets to finally be rewarded :,))

He fought and fought hard, began the road to self acceptance and love, to slowly heal himself with the help of your BG3 character..to finally be rewarded to breathe air again.

To eat again, to feel the blood rush to his cheeks again- his heart pumping again. More than just walking into the sunlight without harm, but to be able to gain from it. To be alive again...

I could rant more and most likely will later but, I love him so much LOL him standing up to Cazador, his abuser, the way he did, I was shaking because the idea of being able to do such a thing to my own is just unthinkable...he deserves much love :, ( and is worthy of so much patience and understanding.

I am going to draw alot of him and Vyhann, who is my Bard BG3 half-elf, together and just in general if y'all aren't happy with that I understand LOL and anyways if you've read this far my god I would apologize but you've done this to yourself skdjfnskdjnfjdf

before bg3's Gale of Waterdeep and Merlyn from The Once and Future King, i had Medivh of Karazhan, the Hot Wizard Sorcerer in My Area to ponder my orb🧙🔮. while my first encounters w him were in Warcraft 3 and WoW, his portrayal in the tie-in novel The Last Guardian ultimately stole my heart. unlike in the games, he actually read like a person with Feelings and Goals? enigmatic, unhinged, actually possessed, surprisingly goofy and relatable. he made me laugh then he made me cry. why didn't they let Khadgar hug him during their reunion in Legion. why

nothing special here, just another casualty to the black hole of attraction that is bg3 Astarion Ancunín. the intrigue of his personal questline def played a part in captivating me, the catalyst for speedrunning my 1st playthrough to discover his fate in the epilogue.

that said, idk what it is about his face. it's like his character designer decided to distil beauty into tangible substance. he's MSG transmuted into humanoid form. idk what it is but i'm eating it up. thankyou Stephanie Chafe for this glorious meal 🙏

Independent RP blog for daddy Halsin from Baldur's Gate 3, by Larian Studios. Penned by Basch, he/him. Refer to Keep reading for further information.

To ease the eyes of word vomit and to let you get to the basics, I'll point out my rules succinctly.

I prefer to roleplay with 21+ individuals. 18+ is my minimum.

RESPONSE TIME: 3-5+ days. I do take every ounce of care in every post and I tend to work on them in big batches. Do not assume I've forgotten about it! poke if you do need reassurance of course.

I'm currently only available to roleplay stories within Baldur's Gate 3 universe. While I do crossovers, your character must have a BG3 verse for interactions to take place.

While this is a Halsin blog, I don't mind covering any other character role if the story calls for it. I can and will write most companions, but I will not be writing Jaheira, Minsc and Astarion.

I deal mostly with an adventurous/storybuilding focus, with a helping of dark themes along the way.

All roleplays will be taking place within the boundaries of tumblr. It's a personal preference, this is not negotiable. If, for some reason, you don't feel comfortable writing certain themes publicly, we can always fade to black and move on to the next scene.

I wish to not deal with OOC drama. My time here on tumblr is only be meant for roleplaying purposes and nothing more.

I did it.

I romanced Halsin and Astarion as Durge.

As soon as I got to the lower city, I handled Cazador as fast as I reasonably could. I wanted to make sure that when Halsin asked, Astarion was already feeling like his own person. My heart would have broken at the "is it because it's been a while" dialog.

It worked! The negotiation with Astarion was goofy, but sweet and honest. I loved it.

Halsin's romance is just so. I mean it's feral AF but it's also so romantic and earnest? And also like he gave us foreplay??

The dialog the next morning is sweet, too. He mentions that all he wants is Tav, but he doesn't want to stop Tav from following their heart.

Sweetest bear. I'm very in my feels rn.

Ny'fein: (guys. she's going to pay us to find clown parts. we're probably gonna find the clown parts anyway. let's just do it)

Astarion: (We are going to speak at length about this. Tonight.)

But no seriously Gale and Astarion were so offended by Lucretious' disregard for the undead's safety/rights/conditions, and for Astarion I knew it was hitting home and reminding him of Cazador. (I think Gale's disdain may have been just for necromancy and for being sent on a quest to find body parts, but let's pretend it's about worker's rights.)

It's interesting to see the empathy creeping in to Astarion as we go through the game.
