Height comparison chart based on the in-game models
Dragonborn Durge is 6'8" or 204cm.
Halsin and Minsc are 6'7" or 200cm.
Karlach is 6'4" or 192cm.
Devil form Wyll is 6'1" or 185cm (the horns net him ~2 in / ~5cm!)
Human form Wyll, Astarion, and Gale are 5'11" or 180 cm.
Jaheira, Shadowheart, Minthara, and Lae'zel are 5'7" or 170cm.
The models are a little bigger in Blender than they would be in the real world. Devil Wyll was 6'7" going by his model in blender, which is just...Not Correct.
This could be because my extracts scaled slightly wrong when i imported them into blender, or the in-game scale is slightly larger than the real world, or they're just modeled a little taller than they're meant to be to make them look biggg. (my vote is that i fucked the scale. rip y'all's estimation of my intelligence.)
Whatever the reason, I knew that they were all scaled wrong in the same way. This means that instead of giving up a futile pursuit, I could do math to figure out something more reasonable.
We happen to know that Astarion is "approximately 5'11"."
I used that as a baseline. So, with our scale established, we get something like this:
Other notes:
Shadowheart/Jahiera/Minthara, Minsc/Halsin, and Gale/Astarion/Wyll share the same heights because they use the same body model.
I'm decently certain that githyanki share an armature with elves/half-elves/drow/humans, so even though the gith body model looks different, Lae'zel is the same height as the other gals to line up with their armature's bones.
I didn't include hair or head accessories (like Shadowheart's) in the total height (that's cheating).
I did include Durge's and Karlach's horns in their overall height, but Karlach's really don't add much (maybe a cm or 2).
Average height worldwide (on Earth) for men is 5'9"/ 175 cm, and for women is 5'4" / 161 cm, so they're all quite tall, but mostly still within a standard deviation of the average.
Except for Karlach, Halsin, and Minsc, who are in the 99.9th percentile for height! They're not tall, they're huge.
BG3 Companions as Out-of-Context Shit My Friends Said
Astarion: Your moral compass and poor sense of direction will lead you to fail in life.
Gale: Just remember kids, if college doesn't work out, you can always get hit by a car.
Halsin: The deer gave me a hickey.
Jaheira: All children are six to me. Until a few years ago, [Tav] was six.
Karlach: My body is doing surgery on a grape and I'm the grape.
Lae'zel: You are on notice to never apologize for me, because I am not sorry.
Minsc: There's no escaping the leaves. It's like we're in the ocean.
Minthara: Would you be mad if your boyfiend inexplicably went missing?
Shadowheart: The Unholy Matron doesn't accept asshole souls, so we can't sacrifice him. He's got to be diluted first.
Wyll: I'm going to go from wanting to shoot myself to actually being happy about my life, and I don't know what to do with that.
Hi! This might be weird, but it's been with me for quite a while and been meaning to share this with you/prompt you with it/get your take/whatever 😁. What about Raphael failing with his coup and having to live on the material plane without his powers? What about Tav/Durge OR Jaheira offering his sorry ass a place and then getting the joy of watching him struggle with common human ailments, like needing reading glasses, throwing out his back, indigestion,... ? 😅
Not weird at all! I'm unfortunately in like work/school hell right now, so I don't have a lot of writing time. But I love this idea. It'd be really fun to develop as like. A slow burn quasi humor ficlet.
God. I don't have a ton of ideas for a generic Tav/Durge (I don't enjoy writing them), but will try and come up with a few.
As for Jaheira:
Offers Raphael a room in Astarion's mansion. Neither of the lads question this.
Ends up staying in her basement.
Rion wants to know why mother-dearest is smuggling men into their home. Then she meets the man. She understands why he should never be seen.
Harper Recruit Raphael. It takes him a few days to get truly charismatic in the way mortals appreciate and not just "veiled threats, but charming."
Replaces the contents of Jaheira's wine cellar with "wine less suited to a vulgar, and altogether common, palette."
Is grateful for the silence of her study.
Cannot keep a plant alive to save his mortal life.
Offers to make a deal with the daughter that wants to be queen---has to bunk with Astarion for a month as punishment.
Actually, gets genuinely good at the Harper business, enjoys the political aspect of it (he's just softening up the city for when he returns to his true form, dear)
Takes a copious amount of naps in the sun.
Furious whenever he has to sleep outdoors. He's a noble devil, not some peasant boy.
Near-sighted. He refuses to wear glasses until the half-elf says they look "learned. dashing. whatever you need to hear, little prince---so long as you can see."
Tav/Durge:
More contentious. Tav/Durge is younger and prone to more zany antics. Raphael's mortal body gets tired more easily.
Their penchant for chaos is less endearing when he's consistently thrown into the warpath.
Enlists them to try and get his powers backs.
Enemies to lovers.
Still near-sighted. Tav does not think to recommend glasses. Raphael refuses to adjust.
It's a lot more of a learning curve for both of them? Tav/Durge is like a wind. Raphael is very constant.
You can determine if they work it out. :D
Apologies for this not being something more. I love the idea. I'd love to steal it later. Always feel free to drop byyyyy.
Which of the BG3 companions would join Norwegian Tav in the 17th of May parade?
Karlach:
Karlach would be distraught if she DIDN'T get to join. She shouts "Hipp hipp hurra" WAY louder than anyone else
Gale:
Gale would join to be supportive, but if the weather is nice he would be drenched in sweat. You ask him if he's good or if he'd like to leave the parade and find some shade, but he's like "nah I'm good" (he's not).
Astarion:
Astarion would NOT join unless you had a nat20 persuasion check, and even then, he would be complaining the entire time.
Lae'zel:
Lae'zel would join but only because she misunderstood and thought it was a march to battle.
Shadowheart:
Shadowheart wouldn't join the parade itself, but would be watching it among the audience from a nice shady spot, and wave to you when she sees you <3
Wyll:
Wyll would would 100% join, and shed a tear when the national anthem starts to play.
Halsin:
Halsin would join, but he didn't manage to find a flag to wave, so he's using a branch with leaves instead.
Jaheira:
Jaheira would be watching the parade from her balcony and waving to you when she spots you.
Minthara:
Minthara also misunderstood and thought it was a march to battle.
Minsc:
Minc joined at first, but got lost in the crowd. You find him the next day, covered in russekort and sleeping in a ditch.
