GALTx eNews: Pete Says Pretty Please!

Pete came to GALT with some vision degradation that makes it hard for him to see in low light. We don't yet know whether his vision will remain stable or continue to fade. We do know Pete will be happiest awaiting his forever family in a foster home rather than a boarding environment.

Dogs adjust well to loss of vision and don't necessarily need a lot of extra care. Pete will, however, always need another big dog around to guide him. Pete's big dog friend should be an easy going, nonreactive dog who won't mind a little inadvertent contact now and then. Pete will also appreciate his family keeping the furniture in the same place and the house clear of floor level clutter that might trip him up. His people need to remember that he can't always see them coming and to use their voice a bit more for him. Loud noises are scary though, so a relatively quiet environment is best.

Pete is an adorable, one year old good boy who understands "no" and wants to please. He still needs some help with potty training so non-carpeted floors are a plus for now. Another dog to follow outside and patient, consistent humans to reward his successes will help him along his way. We don't yet know whether Pete can live with cats or small dogs.
