March Reading Diary [03.03.2024]

It was 62 degrees yesterday afternoon so I took it upon myself to take my three- and two-year-old outside so they could expend all their pent up energy. And while they ran around the backyard screaming, shouting, and shrieking, I took the time to get in some reading. Honestly, one of my favorite ways to spend sunny, warm days like this in the spring & summer is to plop on a blanket in the grass and read while the kids are playing; this was just a taste of what's to come, and I can't wait. <3

The book I took out with me was The Collectors, edited by A.S. King. This is an anthology of short stories focused on collections & those who do the collecting - the collectors. This features stories from several well-known authors including Anna-Marie McLemore, A.S. King, Jason Reynolds, and many more. I thoroughly enjoyed this entirely collection (ha - see what I did there?) & ended up giving it a five star.

We made it to Wednesday, Bookworms … Halfway to the weekend and I am so ready for it. 🫢 Do you guys like to eat or drink while you’re reading? I don’t usually eat while I’m reading, mostly because I usually end up getting food everywhere when I do. 😅 I do sometimes like to have a latte when I read, especially when the weather is cold. White chocolate caramel is my favorite. You don’t exactly expect it to happen until you’re crash landing into someone else’s arms, wondering how the hell you lost the battle against gravity in the first place.” ✨🏠✨ Final Offer by Lauren Asher is the third and final instalment in the Dreamland Billionaires series, this time following the dual narratives of Callahan “Cal” Kane and Alana “Lana” Castillo. I have to admit that this was by far my favourite of the trilogy! The friends to lovers (not once, but twice!) meant that the banter and the tension were incredibly amped up, and the smut scenes reflected that. I loved how the fluffy cuteness could transition into steamy spice without being awkward. The characters well well-rounded, and I enjoyed the exploration of their past relationship, as well as their current one, and I very much liked that while the inheritance played a part of the story, it wasn’t as much of the main focus, unlike the last two books. I also have to admit that I loved that both the previous couples made appearances in this book, as it felt like it tied them together nicely. The discussion around substance abuse and the road to recovery was, for the most part, handled incredibly well. However, I didn’t agree with the fact that Cal seemed to be so focused on making Lana his reason for staying sober; I feel like the book would have benefited if we saw a bit more of Cal doing it for himself, rather than her or the inheritance.
