An old clock radio that still had a store sticker, the quietest vintage fan I've seen in a hot minute, and 2/3rds of Lord of the Rings.

watching the finale of under the bridge and god. cam's confrontation of her dad over the adoption papers is heartbreaking. not just the realization that her whole life, her birth family was a short distance away - but her final statement. "but maybe i was meant to be something different."
god that cuts me so deep.
for those interested in reading more, AIM (adopt indian metis) was a real organization and took part in what's called the sixties scoop in canada, which was a mass effort to remove indigenous children from their families and be placed with white adoptive parents, effectively severing the ties of the children to their culture. cam's statement really gets at the heart of the way this robbed those children of any agency in their identity, any choice of it.
i suppose this is my soapbox moment as a canadian to say that canadian history is fucked and rife with racism. since the start, it has been an unceasing effort to eradicate the indigenous peoples from this land. there are those who have experienced this first hand in residential schools and forced adoptions. i am not one of them, but even the barest part of it that i, as a white canadian, can comprehend makes me genuinely sick to my stomach.
we talk constantly about raising awareness about the cultural (and literal) genocide of indigenous people in canada, but we get so detatched from it, viewing it as so far from current day. i hope that if anything, cam's storyline goes to show that it's not far from us - residential schools persisted into the 1980s and indigenous children are still removed from their communities at a disproportionate rate by social services.
there's no eloquent end to this post except to say that cam's story is one of so, so many here in canada.

New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs says he is banning a Quebec-based sexual education organization from sharing information in provincial schools after what he called an “inappropriate” presentation in high schools. In a lengthy post on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Higgs says he’s heard from concerned parents who shared photos and screenshots of presentation material from Montreal-based sexual education group Thirsty for the Talk, an online resource created by HPV Global Action. A photo Higgs shared on social media as part of the thread shows a presentation slide with questions like: “Do girls masturbate?” and “Does it hurt when you do it for the first time?” among others. He says the Department of Education told him the presentation was supposed to be about Human Papillomavirus and the group shared materials beyond that scope. HPV Global Action’s president Teresa Norris told Global on Saturday that an outline of the presentation was submitted for approval with the school beforehand. She added the contents in the photo shared by Higgs were not intended to encourage those actions, but to discuss the dangers of unsafe sex, including questions that young people often have.

Local community garage sale haul!
1st thing I bought was a South Park funko pop (it came with the box) of Stan. It was 3$.
2nd thing was this tiny bird. Not much else to say but the seller was also selling crystals. (I did not buy them) it was 50 cents.
3rd thing was this Japanese Oni Mask. It was actually for free as the seller was packing up the garage sale and throwing stuff away. I don’t know what brand or company it is at the moment but I got it cuz it looked cool.
4th is an enderman plush. It was also 3$.
5th is a camera from a vintage Barbie game. I didn’t buy the game but I got the camera instead. It costed a dollar.
6th is a Reginald Squishmallow. It was 25 cents. He also had his tag on as well, but I cut it off and put it with my other squish tags.
7th is a fur-suit tail. I also got this for free as it was the same seller as the mask. I can’t believe they were throwing this out! These are expensive and worth a lot of money! It was also in good, clean condition and had a clip for attachment.
I didn’t get the 8th item as it costed 20$ and was super heavy, but it’s literally the rock/stone from that one meme!
I also saw a firefly while selling my stuff too! I wonder if that firefly was a friend of ours who had recently died cuz it kept flying around my dad in broad daylight.
