We don't come back to this enough and how these are DIFFERENT. LOOKS. He cries. He's willing to cry. He is okay with being vulnerable and okay with being vulnerable in front of his mother. He is on the verge of breaking down in gif one. He is walking on autopilot, not looking up, eyes unfocused in gif two.

In gif one, he hasn't allowed himself to truly feel it until he is able to collapse into his mother's arms. In gif two, he started thinking and he has not stopped. Gif one is him breaking down into feeling something. Gif two is him sitting in something.

I'm sorry to say this, but the number can be WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY MORE than 3 years.

FMAB / AoT Comparisons and Contrasts Pt. 2

I am not crazy, I don’t wanna hear it.

Ling Yao and Sasha Braus:

Initially introduced as comedic relief with big appetites.

End up having bigger roles in the story later on.

Greed and Ymir:

Selfish characters who are killed off in the middle of the series.

Their powers/memories are transferred to another user (Porco/Ling), but in the end they are stripped of their powers and die once more for good. (Porco dies, Greed dies.)

This is honestly all I have for character comparisons until further notice or until I come back to edit this post, but I did want to compare a couple of the locations in both shows too.

I think the obvious contrast in location is Amestris vs. Ishval and Eldia vs. Marley; these countries who have been at war with each other for a long time and their conflicts have spurred the story forward one way or another.

And then there’s the Gate and the Paths: alternate realms that the protagonist is sent to where an otherworldly being (Truth and Ymir Fritz) aids the protagonist for better or for worse.

I love Lucas and Mike's ultimate foil. I love sexuality headcanons, don't get me wrong but at the end of the day, I think Lucas exists narratively as a straight man to hold up a mirror to Mike. He as a person is not Mike's foil in the way that Will and El are but he is in his relationships.

From season 1, Mike and Lucas both love Will, but it is deeply contrasted - even if not established yet or even necessarily for a specific reason, they want the audience to see that their love or Will is different: Lucas' quest to find Will is more urgent in solutions, Mike's more creative.

Season 2, Lucas is interested in a girl despite knowing her for under a week, but he actively pursues a relationship with her from the start, displaying feelings for her despite the narrative pointing us in the other direction, contrasting Mike, who connected with El as a person but was stagnant and didn't move in any way to pursue her until it was suggested. Because Lucas liked Max of his own volition, not suggestibility.

Season 3, Mike and Lucas both upset Will. The way in which they respond is very different. They both apologize, but Mike becomes defensive around certain subjects whereas Lucas apologizes with no sensitive topics and seemingly much more ease. Because Lucas' relationship with Will is platonic, and he has nothing to hide. Lucas also repeatedly leads initiations to get back together with Max, while Mike tags along behind him, consistently confused and requiring a push from Lucas to take the next step.

Season 4, Lucas apologizes to Max for small, excusable things he did like not checking in more than he already did whereas Mike becomes defensive, denying that he's done anything wrong, with his climax being apologizing and making true what was supposed to be true in the first place, catching back up to the starting point as opposed to moving forward. Lucas sees Max as she is changing but even with taking responsibility, Mike still sees El as who she was when they met, even going so far as to reference as much.

“For the longest time we had been figuring out exactly where Ballister and Goldenloin were in their relationship at the beginning of the film. For a few iterations of this scene, this had been the moment where they they first showed signs of affection towards each other, but for most iterations, this was one of the few displays of affection between them on screen. I was so surprised to see in the final film they went with a version where their relationship is well established and clear as day - it works so much better for the story! From the boards to the final renders, you can see how the space between them is compressed and how much more intimate their interactions are. It’s clear the filmmakers knew how important it was to sell their relationship from the get-go and infuse this scene with as much personality so that the audience immediately roots for them.
