DIY Bat Shoe Wings made with duct tape, scissors, white pen, and pen knife.
Make a big sheet of duct tape by laying it out and making sure the creases face different ways so its less flimsy.
Then use white pen to draw out your bat wings template. Use your shoes to mark out the holes. Then cut out the holes with a pen knife and check if they fit. Wipe off pen with a lil acetone and qtip. Lace onto your shoes and ur good to go!

So I came across this image on pinterest and was like... I want that!
Then I saw the €135 price tag and was like... nah, I don't want that.
I want something like that. But less expensive, and also less multicoloured. The company calls it a cape, so I started project The Cape.
Tumblr media
I went to the fabric store, saw a huge amount of fun stuff but nothing with the stubtle star pattern I had imagined for The Cape, so I just got 200x135cm of the plainest black linen.
Tumblr media
Made some arm holes and hung it up because I have no time to work on it today.
Tumblr media
Tomorrow I'll search through my stash for suitable fabric to line the armholes. And I might commit to the herculean task of hemming the unfinished edges

Cyber goth dress + my favourite way to make patches
I thrifted this dress a couple of weeks ago for £1. I believe it started life as some sort of costume, possibly a sexy firefighter, but the fabric is really good quality cotton, and I thought it had some cybergoth potential with the yellow and reflective bits. I also really like the metal fastenings.
Tumblr media
I already had a high-viz coat in my wardrobe from when I used to go bicycling more often, so I was able to steal more reflective bits from that. Not yet sure what I'll do with them, probably cut interesting shapes and glue or sew them on. Photos with and without flash.
Tumblr media
And then yesterday I got a half meter of cotton fabric for £1 which is an almost exact colour match, so I can make some stencilled patches.
I already had fabric paint at home, so this entire outfit has only cost me £2! Cybergoth clothing is usually super expensive.
Tumblr media
There are lots of tutorials for making stencilled patches on YouTube, (@rattusrattus3 has some excellent ones) but I lack patience and don't like cutting out intricate pieces, especially for lettering, so I had the idea to use alphabet stickers. You can pick these up really cheap from your local pound shop or dollar store depending on where you're from. I think mine were 40p a packet.
Tumblr media
Stick them to your fabric, use fabric paint and a sponge, then when you peel the stickers off you'll have the words in relief. You can go thicker than I have here to make the surrounding area totally opaque, but I like the edges being messy and faded out. These are both song titles from cyber/industrial bands that I like.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are some other examples that I've done in the past. These were all done with pound shop spray paint which isn't ideal for fabric, but it's cheap! You'll also get more of the original fabric colour showing through with this kind of paint, which is nice.
If you're using black fabric, gold or silver paint will generally work better than white. These are all Devin Townsend song lyrics.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only negative to this method for some people may be that the letters will be very uniform, but I like that. And if you want to you can space them irregularly to break things up a bit. Or you might be able to find more interestingly shaped alphabet stickers than I did!

Made a nail necklace!
It's a handcrafted nail I got from a little fantasy store, meticulously wrangled onto a string so it somehow stays vertical. I've seen coffin nail necklaces and the like for a while so I wanted ny own. The nail itself was at most 1 euro, the rest I already had in the Craft Stash.

DIY Goth Shorts
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Goths of Tumblr, grab your sewing needles and safety pins, because have I got a fun and easily-customizable project for you!
I’ve been gothifying shorts and pants for a couple years, now, and they’re just so much fun to make! Very affordable, too, since all the shorts I get are either thrifted or from Walmart. From then on, I add anything I see fit—patches (bought from Hot Topic and Etsy or DIY), beads, chains, safety pins, fabric paint, embroidery, charms, ribbon, lace, buttons—you get the idea. Lots of my lace trim comes from thrift stores, charms are easy to find in bulk online, you can get beads at Walmart or your local craft store, embroidery floss and needles can be found at Walmart and are cheap (and easy to learn how to use!), and if you don’t want to buy patches you can easily make your own by creating stencils with freezer paper (tutorials are on YouTube) and dabbing on fabric or acrylic paint with a sponge brush.
I’ve also tie-dye bleached and dyed some black shorts for a cool black-and-red and black-and-purple pair. I’ve customized long pants for colder weather, as well, which may get their own post if people are interested.
If all this sounds intimidating to a new crafter, worry not! I have some really simple pairs that took no skill. I don’t have pictures, but I have one pair that just has 2-inch safety pins on the hem and a chain pinned at the pocket. That’s it! No sewing, no painting, just pins!
I also have a pair that has sew-on-studs on the hem and one patch on the leg for a less-busy design if all the eclectic clutter isn’t your vibe.
Point is, you can add whatever you want to some shorts to make them uniquely yours. They can be as busy or plain, colorful or monochrome, girly or grungy as you like! Heck, they don’t even have to be goth. I encourage anyone who knows how to hand-sew or embroider to customize their clothes, no matter their style. It’s fun!

im not able to diy much because it takes a lot of energy, but something i found through experience is that tablecloths are really versatile. i like to buy them from thrift shops and pop ups around halloween. they're big enough to make long skirts and shawls, and if you get the right fabrics, they can be used easily for patches. same with thin blankets or thick bedsheets, you really just have to get creative. and its much cheaper than buying fabric from a craft store.

And now for something completely different…
I’ve been on a bit of a goth diy craft kick this week, with my vertebrae earrings and now this jeans chain. I made this entirely from materials I scrounged around the house, it cost me $0.
