Alastor's Sexuality

I don't speak for the Asexual Community. My comments in this post are based off of what I learned from asexual people on reddit.

I am in the process of writing an Alastor centric fic. I wanted to write him as he is in the show, so before I started I did some research. I found a subreddit for asexuals and asked very nicely what stereotypes, misinformation and troupes they would like to see not used when writing asexual characters.

I was advised that being ace doesn't mean you don't have sexual relationships or get married. From what I understand, they aren't wired to think sexually first and value other things in a relationship over bedroom relations. Strong bonds can be formed platonically, romantically, or sexually. Asexual is not a choice. You are born this way. Abstinence is a choice and is not the same as identifying as ace.

You can be asexual without being aromantic. Some identify as both and some don't. They don't necessarily go hand in hand.

Asexual representation does not mean writing a character as autistic or mentally impaired in any way. There is nothing mentally wrong with them for being ace. They are regular people. They want characters that are just written as normal people without some reason for being asexual. They aren't broken and don't need someone "fixing" them or writing characters that need to be fixed to be sexual. They do have sex.

They enjoy sex jokes, books, media and most are not repulsed by sex or touch. In my experience if you are repulsed by sex and touch it's due to sexual trauma. (That's me.)

The point of this post is this... Yes. Asexual characters (in this case, Alastor) can be written into romantic relationships. Drawing/Rping/Writing him in a pairing does not erase his asexual identity.

Ship and let ship.

Also if I have gotten any of the information above wrong, I apologize. I am not asexual so this is going off of what I was told in a group. I DO NOT speak for the community.

Thank you to those who were kind enough to reply and point out where I erred. I am learning and would like to not feed into harmful stereotypes. Being touch repulsed isn't only related to trauma as I thought. Asexuals can be sex repulsed. Apologies for the misinformation.

In a previous post I said how I wanted angel to slowly change his working/everyday clothes to show he’s turning into his own person separate from Valentino this is the outfit he would wear at the end of season 1 to show that development

still looks like something Val would make him wear but now has a lot of Angels own touches (EX- PINK, hearts)

Why do you ship?

I've been wondering, why fans ship certain characters together? And then it came to me while I was writing my own fic. I wrote a Niffty origin fic that featured domestic abuse and implied sexual abuse. It felt therapeutic to write it as I went through similar situations in my own life. And apparently it did the same for other fans. Some of the comments I received where about how pleased they were to see an abuser get what he deserved.

Which led me to think about the taboo ships in the fandom. What if the reason why fans gravitate towards those ships is because of their own trauma? They use the ship to either heal from their own experiences or flock to it because it's what they know. Despite how some of us may feel about these ships, it's not fair to the fans who do like the ships to receive hate.

SHIP AND LET SHIP I always say. These are fictional characters. no one is hurting anyone writing/drawing them how they see them. It doesn't change the canon story Vivziepop has planned. And if you don't like it, just scroll past. It's that easy.

It takes more effort to type out a nasty comment then to just ignore. Remember fans, we have no idea what these fans have experienced and why they ship what they ship. We can just be nice and not say anything at all if it's not what we ship.

Alastor (child reader [father figure Alastor]):

Alastor had heard sniffling coming from your room in the hotel, but he had just assumed that you had a stuffy nose.

That was until he heard little sobs from your room 20 minutes later.

"What did I say about a smile, de-"

^^ You were curled up in your bed, hugging your tear-stained pillow, buried under at least 5 blankets.

Alastor was never the best at comforting others, but he tried his hardest to make out what you were saying through your cries. You said something about how others in Hell mocked you for being an imp.

What a foolish reason to bully a child! You can't control being an imp, so why would they act like you made that choice?

They were all dead by the next morning.

Alastor, having no idea what else he should do, took you on a trip to Cannibal Town for tea with Rosie (which you giddily accepted!) & flesh-eating (which you politely declined)!

Charlie (sibling reader):

She knew something was up before you were even upset. You were sluggish, you rarely came out of your room, & you weren't smiling as much!

Expect loads of unexplained boxes of candies & cookies outside of your door, random stuffed animals in your room, etc. She just wants to make sure you feel okay!

It took you a few days to figure it out, & then you just had to explain it to her: you & your best friend had a big argument & hadn't been talking.

Charlie immediately tries to fix it! She's trying to set up a meeting with you & your friend to work things out, she's writing apology scripts, etc.

Eventually, you snap & tell her that you don't want any of this & you just need time to grieve.

Expect 10 apology emails next morning!

Adam (sibling reader):

He's pretty dense (no offense [hey that rhymed]), so Adam had no idea you were upset until another angel had told him that you hadn't done any of your extermination work in 2 weeks & that you also hadn't eaten much.

"What's got your panties in a bunch?" is his first question upon entering your messy room & seeing your miserable self.

You tried to explain to him that you were going through a depressive episode, but he didn't understand.

^^ "Being depressed is just being sad, isn't it?"

^^ This led to a 2-hour-long conversation about depression & a 1-hour-long research period.

^^ "EVERYONE LEAVE Y/N ALONE, THEY'RE DECOMPRESSED-" "It's 'depressed', Adam." "That's what I said!"
