Tao having separation anxiety because of his Dad's death. Tao wanting to be a part of his friends' lives to the point where he comes off as clingy or nosy, because what if they're going through something life threatening. Tao who's afraid of drifting apart from his friends because he may lose them without being able to say goodbye. Tao who's afraid of falling to deep in love (romantically) with people because he saw how crushed his mother was when his dad died. Tao who just wants his friends to be happy and protected.

charlie being like 'everything is perfect, we're out and we're a couple and nothing can ruin it' and nick is googling eating disorders bc he knows charlie is sick and he wants to understand and help bc he's really worried and you know season 3 is going to go deeply into this and charlie eventually being admitted into the mental health facility

this narlie hug is the Bane of my existence i am crumbling to the floor as i type this Let me tell u why . it’s bc in this scene, for the whole week nick had to endure being forced to sit next to b*n in his revision period; endured his taunts and shitty attitude and the doubt he was trying to plant into nick’s mind, listening to him only think of nick’s boyfriend as an object and bully charlie behind his back. and what’s even better? his homophobic brother is home from uni, so nick practically gets the same treatment he does at school at home but instead of ben, it’s his own brother. on top of that, he’s stressed about his exams, trying to navigate coming out, and of course, charlie was grounded. but charlie snuck out for nick anyway to see him, and i just. you can FEEL how much that meant to nick; that charlie was there for him and willing to break the rules if it meant he could see nick even if he’d get in trouble. and then when they meet up, they hug and it’s the way you can see Nick hold Charlie so tight despite only having one arm to, burying his face into charlie’s shoulder and scrunching his eyes up tight— you just know nick needed that hug SO bad. he’s been having to put up with so much shit from other people, he’s been so stressed out, but none of that really matters when he has charlie there to hold and to talk to and to cheer him up.

tldr ; THAT BOY IS NICK’S HOME AS LONG AS CHARLIE IS THERE WITH HIM EVERYTHING IS OKAY OIUUUGGHH HE IS SO IN LOVE 🙁🙁🙁🙁

how he always made sure nick didn't feel pressured or obligated to come out

how he asked nick if he was feeling okay before coming out to anyone

he told nick that it was okay to find coming out difficult

how he was there for nick when he was stressed about his GCSEs

how he took it upon himself to tutor nick (ioNick coMPounDs)

how he stood up to harry

"i would fight anyone who's mean to you"

he was unbelievably patient for nick to figure out coming out to his friends and family to the point that he neglected his own well being to make sure nick felt protected and got everything perfect for him

"lets take the coach, you can rant about him the whole way there"

he made sure he was a safe place for nick to fall into

he made sure nick consented before being intimate with him

the way he made sure nick knew that he didn't have to have sex with him ever

he was the only person nick could show all his emotions to. the negative and the positive.

how he hugged nick after nick came out to his dad

All in all charlie is the most supportive, patient, soft, loving, wonderful, caring and UNDERAPPRECIATED boyfriend of all time

I think about the body language in this scene between Nick and Charlie a lot. It's subtle, but so well played by Joe that it gets me every time I watch it. Charlie has just been reminded, in the worst way, of all the bullying and horrendous treatment he suffered in the past. He had hoped--against all evidence to the contrary--that going to the cinema with Nick's friends would be comparable to Nick's first real introduction to Elle, Tao, and Isaac, only to have that optimism repaid with crushing reminders that people can be horrible and that Nick's presence can't always overcome that harsh reality. He's just been verbally harassed and nonconsensually touched by Harry, whom he detests. He has had to lie (convincingly) about his feelings for Nick in front of a judgmental crowd. When Nick follows him out of the theater, Charlie's armor is on, his walls are up. He keeps physical space between them. When Nick pulls Charlie's shoulder, he's tense and very clearly uncomfortable, bracing himself for the worst even though this is Nick, his best friend. It's a millisecond on screen, but it's heartbreaking.

Then Nick says, "I am so sorry."

And Charlie visibly relaxes, his shoulders, his face, his neck, his eyes. He's reminded of why Nick is different, and safe. It doesn't undo the damage of the previous hours, but Nick has separated himself from the group in Charlie's eyes yet again with his honest apology.

And while I think Joe is phenomenal here, Kit's face after Charlie says "I'm honestly used to it by now" manages to tell a whole story. That maybe Nick hasn't fully understood before just how deep Charlie's pain goes, and just how much work he's done to both overcome it and mask it. That he has to do that miserable work over and over and over again. I think Nick's realization in that moment is even more the catalyst to his anger in the confrontation that follows than Harry's specific actions.

Twenty seconds of story, and we get all of that from the performance. Incredible.
