Some of the Kusudama I have been making lately^_^

Mental health origami. This is a kusudama, or flower ball, made of 30 small-and-simple shapes called sonobe modules that can be inserted into each other to make large 3D shapes.

Sonobe variation designed by Andriy Hechuev. The normal sonobe is fairly plain-looking, but this one is really delightfully curved. And easier to assemble. Really, really like how this one came out, I'll need to hang it somewhere in the home.

I've made a kusudama, it's so small and pretty! I'll have to find a better place to hang it up though lol

At 90 units, this is one of the largest modular pieces I've made. Truncated icosahedron (⚽ shape) made from Tom Hull's PHiZZ unit. No glue involved and yes, it's gay.

So, hung out with a friend for Crimmus Eve, and brought with me some stuff that I first started working on just before last christmas.

Finally finished it, I've made similar before, but smaller. Have a lovely, big, blue, round Kusudama.

30 pieces, only connection not able to pull of is the very last one, but that's always a problem.

I'm surprised I never made the smaller ones into ornaments.

I know I said I'd post my origami paper collection last week but things got busy. Heh. Anyways, here it is plus some current pieces I've worked on.

As I mentioned once, I build these as a form of self-care. I discovered as a child, the repetitive motions to make each unit is very therapeutic, and gives me a sense of control over something, however small, amid chaos or stressful situations. After completion, they give me a feeling of satisfaction seeing that my anxiety doesn't have to be self-destructive. But of course, I don't make them only when I'm down, I make them out of boredom too. They're a form of brain teasers, especially when I'm making a new variation.

No, really, I got issues with hoarding various art supplies, paper is no exception. I have these three shoeboxes plus a metal cabinet filled with paper. But I have a legit excuse for so much. I live rural, so I can't afford to go into town all the time for art stuff, so I buy bulk from an office store that's the main supplier of stationery in my area. The next one is over an hour and a half away down the mountain!. Also buying bulk is cheaper. I get those wishing star papers and mini sized boxed papers for 50 cents each in a five pack. Buying individually, they're a dollar a piece. A lot of it I bought under $3, though the module kits and larger sized washi paper were $7.

My current favorite new papers are these Sanrio ones, as well Pokemon and Cardcaptor paper. These are hard to find at that store, as they're New Old Stock.
