Mini-review:
I loved this so much! Sure, it has its flaws, but its strengths far outweigh them. The show feels refreshing and almost groundbreaking thanks to the way it takes inspiration from Journey to the West and Chinese culture. With these elements, the show gets to tell a fantastic story about coming of age and finding your identity. It also tackles the topic of representation head-on, with a beautiful monologue by Ke Huy Quan in one of the last episodes. I can't think of many TV shows that talk so frankly about this, and American Born Chinese deserves big kudos for that.
But the main reason why this show is a hit is its cast. For starters, we have legends like Michelle Yeoh, the aforementioned Ke Huy Quan and Daniel Wu. Obviously, they are as great as anyone would expect from them. But the young cast also delivers: Ben Wang's comedic timing is perfect, and Jimmy Liu pretty much steals the show with an incredibly charming and adorable performance. On top of all this, the action scenes are fantastic, with amazing choreographies and very stylish and cinematic direction. Also, I thought this was supposed to be a limited series, but I guess it's not? I'm not complaining, cause I really enjoyed it, but I hope it's doesn't end up being cancelled.
P.S. Why the f**k is Disney+ not promoting the hell out of this? They have Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan and Stephanie Hsu from Everything Everywhere All At Once, plus Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed the Shang-Chi movie, and they are doing nothing to promote it. It's seriously baffling.
Y’all, I just.. they’re so sweet. And they didn’t know I was in the chat at this point, so this was completely organic. And when I said thank you, the chat BLEW UP telling me how much they love my work. Just makes me so happy ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
They mentioned me a few more times in the stream, which I’ll link below, but this is my favorite moment lol
One thing I had to do for Back to the Finale: Part III was figure out the state of the Waverider in-story and the biggest part of that was tracking how the rooms changed owners over the years.
It got so confusing that I physically had to map it out and I wanted to share for anyone else who might need it.
The basics: The Waverider has 8 presumably identical rooms that were then modified by Jax and Rip before season 2.
The boxes around the names are for where it's not clear who took which room, e.g. Nate could have taken either Snart or Kendra's room.
To sum up:
Mick and Sara were the only ones to stay in their rooms the whole time (unless one of them swiped Rip's at the beginning of season 3)
Astra got Ray's room.
Amaya and Nate took Snart and Kendra's rooms. Then Amaya's went to either Charlie or Mona.
Martin's room went to Leo for a short time and then either Wally or Rip while the other person got Jax's empty room.
After Wally, Rip, and Amaya left one of their rooms went to Charlie, one to Mona, and one was left empty while John chose to sleep in the library. Gary took over the empty room eventually.
Zari 2.0 got Mona's room and Spooner got Charlie's.
One last thing as The Ghost and Molly McGee has officially ended after airing for nearly 3 years, I would like to give a shoutout to the series creators, Bob Roth and Bill Motz for making this awesome Disney animated series (cartoon) for the early 2020s era.
As well as to voice actors: @ashlyburchisgreat, Dana Snyder, Michaela Dietz, Sumalee Montano, Jordan Klepper, Lara Jill Miller, Alan Lee, Sue Ann Pien, Leonard Wu, Stephanie Sheh, Eric Edelstein, Vincent Rodriguez III, Liza Koshy, @greydelislegriffin, Kari Wahlgren, John DiMaggio, and Greg Baldwin.
So long, McGee family, Cheng family, Geoff, Jeff, and The Ghost Council for nearly 3 years (October 1, 2021-January 13, 2024)
Even though, I'm familiar with most of the voice actors I know of from the voice acting pool from many other animated series (cartoons) and other media (like video games) like Steven Universe, The Loud House, The Casagrandes, Avatar: The Last Airbender, We Bare Bears, OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes, Adventure Time, and the WarioWare series (e.g. everyone (every voice acting fans) is familiar with Grey DeLisle, Lara Jill Miller, John DiMaggio, Kari Wahlgren, and Stephanie Sheh).
Out of context, this interaction is quite funny knowing it's said by a character voiced by the original actor who played the character I'm cosplaying as.
