Deep Sea Diving
"Wow!! Look at that!! That's the famed Manta!! And there's a whole squadron of them!! They are one of my all time favorite animals in the ocean!! Did you know that Mantas circle around zooplankton and krill to eat? It's a very rare sight to see! Oh!! And they have an amazing memory too! They are able to sense and map their surroundings based on sight and smell! It's no wonder why they have the largest brain to body weight ratio of any organism!!"

I snorkelled today and I saw a common stingaree. I don’t have a photo because my phone would die. But oh my god.

During one of their more pleasant research expeditions, divers would report gatherings of large manta ray-like creatures. They glided and danced effortlessly, with constellations speckled across their undersides.
Ending the year with some rough art of my manta folk creatures.

Did you know that a giant manta ray (Manta birostris) can weigh as much as 5,300 pounds (2,404 kilograms) and have a wingspan of up to 29 feet (8.8 meters)? The gentle giant migrates all around the world’s oceans, from warm tropical waters to more temperate regions. As the graceful swimmer travels, it filter-feeds on zooplankton. One of the largest threats that the giant manta ray faces is commercial fishing because its gills are prized in various international markets.
