Russian lies are meant not only to disinform, to make action more difficult, but also to demotivate, to make action seem senseless. Russian memes work not by presenting Russia as a positive alternative, but by demoralizing others. No one wants to be close to "Nazis," and the simple introduction of the lie is confusing and saddening. The same holds with the Russian meme to the effect that Ukraine is corrupt. A completely bogus Russian source introduced the entirely fake idea that the Ukrainian president had bought yachts. Although this was entirely untrue, Representative Greene then spread the fiction. Senator J.D. Vance also picked up the "yacht" example and used it as his justification for opposing aid to Ukraine. The larger sense of that lie is that everyone everywhere is corrupt, even the people who seem most admirable; and so we might as well give up on our heroes, on any struggle for democracy, or any struggle at all. Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelens'kyi, chose to risk his life by remaining in Kyiv and defending his country against a fearsome attack from Russia which almost all outsiders believed would succeed within days. His daring gamble saved not only his own democracy, but opened a window of faith that democracies can defend themselves. It confirmed the basis lesson of liberty that individual choices have consequences. The lie directed at Zelens'kyi was meant not only to discredit him personally and undermine support for Ukraine, but also to persuade Americans that no one is righteous and nothing is worth defending.

Oh to be a Ukrainian and accidentally check the notes about yet another genocidal act of russians against your people only to discover a tumblr user marxizm4eva reblogged by blorbostalin go at the Ukrainian OP with 'well, actually, here's the truly reliable kremlin source saying poor little russia didn't do it, you uncultured American spy!' because, apparently, anti-american imperialism implies believing that only westerners can post on the internet, there's surely no way those backward wildlings from Eastern Europe could have WiFi and know English!

To all those who died alone in the Russian occupation
Tumblr media
🕯 "To all those who died alone in the Russian occupation". Muzychi village, Kyiv region
These are the words on the tombstone that stands on the grave of the mother of Ukrainian artist Alevtina Kakhidze. The artist installed it in 2021. This memorial project consists of six marble doors that replicate the location of the doors in the house of Alevtina's mother, known as Klyubnyka Andriivna, in the village of Zhdanivka, Donetsk region, as well as concrete porch steps recreated in real life. When the war in eastern Ukraine broke out, the artist's mother was unable to leave her home despite her daughter's persuasion. Alevtina dedicated a series of works to her mother, which were shown at exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad. Kakhidze's mother died in 2019 - her heart stopped while crossing one of the checkpoints controlled by the militants of the so-called "Donetsk People's Republic". She was buried in the Kyiv region.
Tumblr media
This is not the kind of message that children should receive from their parents "If we are killed, all the documents are in the basement."
Tumblr media
This is what I mean when I say that we cannot negotiate and freeze the conflict. Because children from the occupied territories, who are now 14-17 years old, will be fighting against us in five years.
Don't be indifferent. Make Russia pay. Please hear our cry out to the world, keep spreading our voices, and donate to our army and combat medics (savelife.in.ua, prytulafoundation.org, Serhii Sternenko, hospitallers.life, ptahy.vidchui.org, and u24.gov.ua).

This is a WIRED article from 2018 about Russia's propaganda/disinformation campaign on Tumblr.
The thing is, while Tumblr has addressed it in the past, it is very clear that Russia still uses trolls on this site. The list that they've provided of Russia-linked blogs back then isn't available anymore (I can't access it). The reason I'm posting this now is because I see a lot of people posting screenshots of pro-russian users and I want you to know that there's high chance that these users you are interacting with might be a troll spreading Russian propaganda. With the invasion of Ukraine these blogs must have intensified their activities so you can imagine the state of disinformation on this site.
Here's a useful article on how to spot russian bots/shills

It's been wild watching how far russia is willing to go to justify the genocide in Ukraine. They are willing to use the tragedy and the cold dead bodies of their own civilians to explain why they are killing us. They aren't even good at lying, but somehow it's always enough to make someone believe.
At first they said the terrorists arrived in a car with ukrainian license plates. Then disproved it. They said the terrorists were moving towards the Belarusian border. Then quickly changed that version to the Ukrainian border instead. Apparently, the citizens of Tajikistan recruited by ISIS worked for Ukraine. When putin shits his pants, it's because the Ukrainians forced him to.
Not even a few hours had passed before the russians got to writing on the shells with which they bomb Ukraine that this is their revenge for the Moscow's Crocus Hall. "To the pigs (that's what they call us) for the Crocus Hall"
Tumblr media
This is not surprising in the slightest. But it is still wild to see. Russian society is sick. There is nothing sacred for them. No empathy even for their own. No respect for the victims. Everything revolves around one goal: to justify their hatred and their crimes.

Check Before You Reblog advice:
In case of posts about Ukraine, if you see ANTI-WAR rhetoric, always pause and think. What is this post calling for?
stopping Western "involvement in the war"
stopping US/UK/France "support of aggression"
stopping Western "intervention in democratic processes"
If so, think what it translates to.
It mostly translates to "stop giving Ukraine weapons that are Right Now Stopping Russia from rolling over the entire country". It translates to "stop helping Ukraine defend itself against Russia". It translates, in short, to "just fuck off and let Russia do what it wants".
It is a pro-Russian propaganda. And even if it claims it is Just Simply Against All That Violence or Just Against The War In General, it's still a fucking pro-Ruskies propaganda, because that would be the result. If they got what they say, if West (and I mean by it "old NATO countries") stopped providing Ukraine with support, well, that war would be over very quickly. By having all Ukraine overrun by Russians and all Ukrainians dead, kidnapped, raped or beaten into submission.
I'm not saying it would be moments. Days. Weeks even. I'm pretty sure "new NATO countries" would do what they can - pretty certainly our MOD in Poland would scramble whatever half-decent tank they could spare to send, because it is FUCKING NEXT DOOR to us. But that would not have lasted long. You can't defend against missiles with sheer bravery and boldness. Nobody can. Not for long.
And yes, it would end the war. With the outcome favourable only to Russia.
And then, having proven that Western assurances of support mean FUCK ALL (because you know why Ukraine gave up all its nuclear arsenal? you know? if you don't, go away and find out...), they would not hesitate to gobble up whatever other country was available next. And then they'd start nibbling on NATO borders, because apparently nobody cares, so why not try Poland. Kurica nie ptica, Polsza nie zagranica - Chicken isn't a proper bird and Poland is not a proper foreign country. Let's take Poland then, and roll over it, blooding what we can...
Back to the topic.
Check what you reblog. Don't disseminate pro-Russian propaganda. Don't reblog "I don't like Putin but USSR was kind of OK" shit. Don't share "Well the collapse of USSR was an error" - these are all RU agitprop talking points.

Abby Philip very plainly and publicly called Tucker Carlson a liar on an internationally televised media outlet. Ask yourself why Tucker Carlson didn’t immediately file a defamation lawsuit against Ms. Philip and CNN. And if he does file a flimsy, face saving, “for show” lawsuit, ask yourself why he will lose.
Donald Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson, Mitch McConnell, the Republican Party, the NRA, Fox News and Tucker Carlson have been purchased by the Kremlin. They are all Russian assets spreading Russian talking points, disinformation and pro-Putin propaganda directly from their bosses in the Kremlin. (sources)

the fact that Germany attacked Poland in 1939 under the pretext that Poland was persecuting Germans living in Poland and now Russia is attacking Ukraine under the pretext that Ukrainians are persecuting Russians in Ukraine is simply terrifying. The brainwashed Russians keep saying that they are defending themselves against Ukraine. It's really pathetic Nazi propaganda. The Russians have learned nothing from Germany's Nazi history. Every aggressor says it's a defensive war. Finally learn it, citizens of Russia, and leave your neighbor's territory.
but also when you tell the Russians to stop attacking Ukraine, they say, but America causes wars too!!
do you have to copy this thing from America too, you clowns?

Good morning for me.
Tumblr media
I'm feeling disgusted to reply to such bots or even real people who are zombified by russian propaganda. At the same time that's funny they wrote it to me. To the person who 14 years had lived in Donetsk. Ukrainian Donetsk is my hometown. I still have old friends here and I terrified that someday russians who have posts near them can launch in their home.
I will never forget how russians were shelling the hospital which is located 13 kilometres away from my home.
Tumblr media
August 2014 was hot with russian artillery. Most of the summertime I was with a grandma who lived close to Donetsk airport.
14 kilometres away, by the way. So bear with my angry behavior, I will block instantly persons who will ever write lies like that.

Between the antisemitism and the anti-ukrainian shit, I'm guessing the reason OP was banned is Hate Speech, which is also what I reported them for.
(they will probably claim they were martyred for the truth)
Antisemitism aside what did Ukraine ever do to you, OP? What, your tiny hate- filled brain can't handle more than one hot topic at once? Great advocating for Palestine you're doing there. I'm sure everyone is very grateful.

Hi. I wanted to ask how you have those among Ukrainians who believe in russian propaganda. I just met one refugee from Kharkov, and he told me that Putin is fighting for the Russian world, and it was the United States that started the war. He reasons that since he speaks Russian, he should support Russia's actions. And this despite the fact that his city was bombed, and he and his family were on the verge of life and death.
Hi. I can't really answer this. I mean, I can try, but I'm not good at answering vague questions. I'm not well-spoken enough.
How come so many USAmericans worship Trump and see him as a savior of the poor when he's the exact opposite? How come far-right parties all across Europe gain more and more popularity, with people believing that fascists in power will resolve all their problems? Hell, we can take it a step further and ask how come people become anti-vaxxers and flat Earth believers? The answer is only one - propaganda. People fall under the harmful influence.
Russian propaganda has been extremely active in the southeast of Ukraine basically since we gained independence. Russia has been spending millions upon millions on brainwashing Ukrainians. The propaganda became more and more aggressive since the Orange Revolution. It was everywhere in the Donbas, you couldn't even wear a piece of orange clothing without risking being beaten up.
I was only a middle-schooler, but I remember it in detail. Propaganda materials such as leaflets were distributed everywhere. I remember one with Viktor Yushchenko (pro-European presidential candidate) against the background of the US flag and Uncle Sam who's saying, "Yushchenko is our pResident." I remember asking my mother what it meant, and she said it means that Yushchenko is a very bad person. This stuff was wild. And it only got wilder.
Russian propaganda claims over the years varied from the statement that "Donbas feeds the entire Ukraine" to "pro-European politicians and the US will make concentration camps in the Donbas for the Russian-speakers and will populate the territory with people from the West instead." I don't know how, but people believed in this purely artificial conflict. Not only were there never any persecutions against the Russian-speakers, but you would actually feel more comfortable speaking Russian in Ukraine. In most regions, the Ukrainian language was considered a "redneck" language and would get you nowhere. Of course, the Ukrainian government is also to blame for letting Russia control the narrative. But for most of these independent years, Ukraine was basically externally managed by Russia. During Yanukovych's presidency, we were like Belarus is now - a false "president" taking instructions straight from the Kremlin. So the brainwashing was getting worse and worse.
I told this story several times, and I'll tell it again. Before the "referendum" in Donetsk, most people laughed at the idea of the "republic." It was supported by some local lunatics, but mostly the whole thing was done by russian mercenaries and russian military. During this time, my aunt told me that those who support this are crazy and they're calling war into our homes. She was a reasonable person. She had a job, a nice apartment of her own, a happy family, and a bright future ahead. In 2015 they fled from Donetsk to russia, along with my grandmother. Why to russia? Propaganda. Then they got russian citizenship and used it to vote for putin. I asked how they could vote for him after what he did to them, after they lost it all. "We're thankful he gave us a home, gave us citizenship," was the answer. At first, he took everything from you, ruined your life, then let you restore a tiny bit of it - and you're grateful. I don't know how this works. It's not like they were welcomed in russia, they faced a lot of prejudice and oppression for being from Donetsk. To the point that my cousin was bullied at school for being from the Donbas, not only by kids but by teachers, despite being an excellent student and graduating with honors. Russians are outraged that their state "rescues" and "helps" those Donbas khokhols instead of helping "true" russians.
In the second month of the full-scale invasion, my grandmother proposed that I move to them, to the moscow region of russia. "This is the country that is trying to kill us all, how can you ask me to move there?" "What difference does it make which country to live in? It's safe here." So along with pro-putin brainrot comes also apoliticalness, passivity.
I'm rambling at this point. I don't want to go on about this forever, like I know I can. Let's leave it at this.
