THE WORD FOR 20/5
‘Who shall separate us from the love of Christ Jesus?’ Romans 8:35
Shall troubles separate us?  Never, no outward trouble can separate us from His love. We are never deserted. Jesus is ever at hand. When we call upon His name He intervenes, sometimes taking away the trouble, and at other times giving us the grace and strength to bear it, and at all times consoling us through His Spirit.
Paul mentions famine, hunger and all forms of deprivation that may hurt considerably, and test us sorely, but Christ will place His divine arms around us. Nakedness, poverty, peril, great dangers, war, disasters, the sword, violence , none of these things can possibly separate us from the love of Christ.
‘Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God.’ No created being or power or force, angelic, demonic, earthly, animate or inanimate, have the power to separate us from the immeasurable love of God. This love is the inseparable bond between God and His people.

Haman the wicked man had a  murderous plan to wipe out the Jewish people. Esther knew how dire the situation was, hence she fasted with her people.  Esther put her life on the line and went into the king’s presence to plead for the lives of her people. Going into the presence of the king could have been a death sentence for her, for in those days, going into the king's presence without being summoned could kindle the king's wrath. But it so happened that, when the king saw Esther standing in the court, she obtained favour in his sight; and the king extended to Esther the golden scepter which was in his hand. Esther 5:1
You know, God works in miraculous ways. God moved the king’s heart and the Jews were saved and God’s name was glorified. 
When your situation seems grim, and it appears that your story has taken a terrible turn, remember your King, Jesus, has the last word. Go into the presence of the King of kings and plead your case. He will have favour upon you and answer your prayer.

You may be thinking, "I don't know how I could ever get through this." Or you may be battling powerful feelings of despair. 
But as difficult as this life storm may be, you are not alone. God is with you always. He loves you, and cares about what is going on in your life. He hears your cries and sees your pain. Moreover, He understands.
In the midst of your pain and struggle, God is with you. Even if you do not feel Him near, God is there. He promises to never leave you. Therefore, wherever you are, God is,  never losing sight of you, or your suffering. Even as you ponder how you will begin picking up the pieces of your life, God is there, giving you the strength you need, holding you up, and making a way where there seems to be no way. Reach out for Him today. He is a very present help in times of trouble

Luke 13:2
"Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way?" 
Many attribute suffering to personal sin. Others think it's some kind of a curse in the family. Even Job's friends seeing his suffering jumped to the conclusion that it must be some kind of hidden sin.“Think now,” his friend says, “who that was innocent ever perished? Or where were the upright cut off? As I have seen, those who plow iniquity and sow trouble reap the same” (Job 4:7-8).
We must understand that we live in a fallen world. Suffering comes to us at different points in life. I'm not denying the fact that, disobedience causes suffering. We do face consequences but we cannot make a blanket statement that suffering is because of sin. 
When the disciples asked Jesus whose sin it was that made the man blind, his sin or his parents'? Jesus answered, " Neither, but he is blind for the glory of God and He proceeded to heal the man.
Let's not be gripped by false guilt when we suffer. Let's not be quick to judge when people suffer, but let's be like Jesus always compassionate and kind to those who are suffering.

Do not despise these small beginnings. Zechariah 4:10
God delights in taking the insignificant, and making something out of it.
Gideon, took a small army of men, 300 in number, and conquered a huge 
well-equipped and mighty army.
Samson, took the jaw bone of a donkey, and slew a thousand Philistines.
David took five small stones, and slew the giant Goliath, who had intimidated the people of God !
Time and time again,  the Lord God has taken small things, the things overlooked, the things often mocked and despised, to accomplish His eternal purpose! 
Perhaps you feel you haven't achieved much. All your efforts have ended in failure. Give it all to Jesus. Surrender your future into His hands. He's able. I have seen lives restored in ways one can never imagine. 
Never underestimate God's ability to take even your frailties and failures, your small beginnings and turn them into something significant and amazing to His glory!

THE WORD FOR 15/5
Jesus said, “Look at the birds of the air. They do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (Matthew 6:26).
One sunny afternoon, as I was looking out of the window, I noticed a teeny tiny bird fluttering in the hot Middle Eastern desert. I paused to consider its plight. But the longer I looked, the surer I was, that, this little bird was well taken care of by its Creator. The surprising thing was, that tiny little bird had a mate, I wonder how it found one in this vast arid desert! The birds looked happy and well-fed. They reminded me of the above verse, "Look at the birds of the air...yet their Heavenly Father feeds them." If the Lord Jesus could take good care of this tiny bird in the sweltering desert, will He not take care of His children, and meet their every need? Oh, my faith skyrocketed, my heart overflowed with gladness. 
Perhaps you are worried about something, you don't have to, just pay heed to Jesus' command, "Don't worry!" It's not a harsh command, it's a gentle reassuring word, which implies, "you are precious to Me, I will take care of you."

1 Samuel 16:7 But the LORD said to Samuel, ``Do not look at his appearance... because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."
We often judge people based on their outward appearance. But God looks deeper, he sees their heart.
He sees their brokenness, their pain, and above all their deep spiritual longing. Jesus always sought people who were in distress, who needed healing, both physical and spiritual. He always gave them the good news of the gospel. 
Today, let's ask God to give us eyes to see as the Lord sees. We don't know what the people around us are going through, our family, our colleagues, our neighbours and friends. Let's ask God to fill us with compassion,  love and understanding, that instead of judging them we might be a source of comfort to them. Let's not always be self absorbed, let's reach out to those around us.

How many mothers are truly appreciated? I have seen many children holding grudges against their mothers often blaming them for their personal failures. Children fail to understand that mothers receive no training to be mothers. It is mostly on-the-job training. I thought that the early part of motherhood is the toughest. But handling teens is even tougher. Mothers aren't perfect but they try their best and many a times sadly fail, resulting in moments of despair, despondency and desperation. Motherhood is not for the faint hearted. Mothers need a whole lot of grace, God's help, courage and persistence. Godly mothers fight their battles on their knees. They are totally dependent on Jesus, their Miracle worker. They see hopeless situations turn around. They see victories won through their fervent prayers
Your mother has fought battles you know nothing about. She gave her all to raise you.
Would you be grateful for the mother God has given you?
Proverbs 31:28"Her children rise up and call her blessed.

The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him. Let your father and mother be glad; let her who bore you rejoice. Proverbs 23:24-25
Parents are saddened when their children walk in disobedience and rebellion. On the other hand when they see their children walking in the truth they rejoice. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. (3 John 1:4)
Godly children love and respect their parents. Out of gratitude towards them they do things that would cause them to rejoice.
On this mother's day, take a moment to introspect, " Do I bring joy to my mother or have I been the cause of her heartache?
Live in such a way that your mother will be proud of you and say, "I am blessed to have a child like you."
Listen to your father, who gave you life, and don’t despise your mother when she is old. Proverbs 23:22
Be kind and loving to your mother always, that's how you repay her for the years she cared for you.

There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off. Proverbs 23:18
Facing tragedy, or storms, can be extremely difficult. But in the midst of heartache and pain, you can find the hope and courage to go on. With God's help, the help of caring family and friends, and the encouragement found in God’s word, you will receive the necessary strength to overcome. 
But as difficult as the storm may be, you are not alone. God is with you always. He loves you, and cares about what is going on in your life. He hears your cries and sees your pain. Moreover, He understands.
You are not alone, Jesus is with you. Even if you do not feel Him near, He is there. He is with you before, during, and after "the storm," never losing sight of you, or your suffering. Even as you ponder how you will begin picking up the pieces of your life, God is there … loving you beyond understanding, holding you up, and making a way where there seems to be no way.  Reach out for Him today. He is a very present help in times of trouble  Your future is safe in His hands.

Jesus claimed to be the Good Shepherd but He also claimed to be the Door- the way through which He leads every one of His sheep into the presence, blessing and salvation of God. Jesus said in John 14:6,“ I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Yes, without Jesus it is impossible to go to God. He is the Door, He is the only way to heaven.

You will be a crown of splendour in the LORD’s hand, a royal diadem in the hand of your God. Isaiah 62:3
Our God is a loving and caring God. He takes broken people, people considered useless, and makes something beautiful out of their lives. He makes them whole, He makes them useful in His hand, He does incredible things through them. That's how extravagant His love is. Each of us could testify to this, how He took us out of the miry pit and gave us a chance at life. Not only that, He is preparing us to be the Bride of Christ. He's moulding and shaping us to be conformed to His image. He has washed our sins with His blood and made us white as snow. Now He's so proud to show us off to the world, holding us in His hand for all to see— a splendid crown in the hand of God. Yes that's His ultimate plan for us. “so that He might present the church to Himself in splendour, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish." Ephesians 5:27

Rejoice in the Lord always. 
Philippians 4:4
Yesterday I told you that contentment comes when we rejoice in the Lord. 
You may ask, “How can I rejoice when everything is going against me, and I have been waiting endlessly for my situation to change?"
Paul writes these words from a Roman dungeon. He learnt from personal experience that our joy in the Lord does not depend on having things go our way, or on having everything we want, but on whether or not we are "in the Lord." He understood that God is the source of His joy and in Him is his sufficiency. Whether in lack or fullness he knew his Lord was enough for him. 
Prayer: Lord Jesus, sometimes it seems almost impossible for me to rejoice. Help me to understand that only in and through your Holy Spirit can I rejoice in You. Amen.

For I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
Philippians 4:1-12
Paul penned these words from prison. And a few verses before that he says, "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!"
Contentment comes when we rejoice in the Lord. Think about your life right now. Can you appreciate what you have instead grumbling about what you don’t have? What you have in Christ is far greater than anything you don’t have in life. You have Jesus.
Paul is confident that His God is enough. He ends the chapter, (verse 19) by affirming,
"And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus." Therefore, you have everything you need for now and eternity. And Jesus has you. That makes all the difference in the world. Would you quit looking at others and look to Jesus? Do you realise how blessed you are to have Him in your life?

Laughter is a unique gift given to us, human beings by our Creator. I say unique because you don't see animals cracking jokes or laughing with their kind. Laughter makes our spirits light and reduces our stress levels. Instead of constantly talking about our difficulties, let's ask God to fill our hearts with joy and our mouths with laughter. We must take time off to have some lighter moments with our family and loved ones, laugh and have fun. See the brighter side of life. Your circumstances may not be favourable, but with Jesus by your side we can smile at the storm. There's no reason to be sad and miserable. All will be well. Cheer up!

What a great comfort this promise brings! Imagine God, the wisest, the most knowledgeable, the mighty and glorious One promises to be our children’s teacher. What kind of lessons would He teach them? Unimaginable life lessons that they could otherwise never learn. I cannot begin to fathom how my children will turn out in the long run. I dare not judge the unfinished masterpieces they now are. My God who began a good work in them will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:7)
