Winter sun (back in my arms)
by barisan (@barisan-no)
T, 19k, Wangxian
Summary: Still, he cannot keep himself from seeing it. The way the corners of his mouth curl when he smiles, the way his eyes crinkle. The way he lets out a little snort before he laughs. The way he rubs the bridge of his nose when focused. Now that he has let himself see it, he cannot keep his mind from noticing each and every detail, cataloging what is his, what isn’t, and what is fully, simply, A-Yuan. His A-Yuan. The little mole by his lip, the shape of his eyes, his nose. A-Yuan, A-Yuan, A-Yuan. The Bio Dad WWX Au I’ve been screaming about for months. Kay's comments: Wanna have your heart ripped out of your chest and then carefully returned? Say less. This story is for you. It's so much hurt! So much ouch! And yet, so soft as well. A story in which A-Yuan is Wei Wuxian's biological son, but gets taken away because someone called the cops on Wei Wuxian for stealing diapers. Years later, Wei Wuxian is a school teacher and realizes that Lan Sizhui is his A-Yuan. Poor Wei Wuxian is really going through it here, but thankfully he has the support of his friends and his trusted service animal, which is a ferret! Super cute. Prepare for some major knives with a happy ending!! Excerpt: He remembers trying. He remembers the unending shifts, the ache on his limbs, the thumping on his head. He remembers giving everything he had, only to end up losing it all. No matter how hard he tried, no matter how much he bled, his son was gone. Three years, he had spent trying to make his life better, to make himself better. But he had been too late. By his son’s fourth birthday, Wei Ying had a small flat to call home, three jobs to pay rent and a completely furnished child’s room. By his son’s fourth birthday, Wei Ying had nothing.
pov alternating, modern setting, modern no powers, past wei wuxian/others, teacher wei wuxian, lan sizhui is a wei, single parent wei wuxian, single parent lan wangji, good parents lan wangji and wei wuxian, families of choice, burial mounds ensemble as family, hurt/comfort, emotional hurt/comfort, adoption, recovery, fluff and angst, angst with a happy ending, getting together, homophobia, bad uncle lan qiren, developing relationship

Summary: “Wei Ying,” Lan Wangji says. “The curse is immutable.” And, luckily, temporary. Vengeful spirits do not care for love or marriage. With that spite, as the dying act of the last of the ghouls, Lan Wangji and Wei Ying are forbidden to touch one another for the duration of the night. Wei Ying widens his eyes. “Lan Zhan, isn’t our love even more immutable? Really! You won’t dare to try? I’m wounded.”

M, 7k, Wangxian
Summary: During the Sunshot Campaign, Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian become stranded in the middle of a storm, the situation is far from ideal, especially to go into labor. Even more if Wei Wuxian didn't even know he was pregnant. Kay's comments: Delighted whisper: He didn't know he was pregnant. You know I love this trop, especially with Wangxian. Here we have a omegaverse story with Wangxian having gone into heat/rut during the Xuanwu cave arc and just never talked about it, until one day: surprise labour! Very graphic though, so if that's not your piece of cake, better skip out on this one. It's very sweet too though, them panicking and coming together to figure it out. Really loved it! Excerpt: Lan Wangji looked alarmed, he was at a loss of what to do, he couldn’t stand aside and watch as Wei Ying suffered, “Please let me examine you, Wei Ying, don't be stubborn.” Wei Wuxian looked up from where he was curled into a tight ball, the relentless cramps making his whole body shake. He nodded, this was not the time to be concerned about what Lan Zhan could think about his body; he let the alpha undress him, not thinking about how inappropriate it was. He let Lan Wangji unfastened his sash, if he was surprised by the changes in his body, he didn't say a word, he simply pressed his dexterous, calloused fingers over the slightly taut skin of his abdomen. “Why didn't you tell me?” Lan Wangji sounded accusatory, his inner alpha growling, his voice demanding, it also sounded like he was somehow hurt? “Who is the father?” What? “What are you talking about? What nonsense are you spouting, Lan Zhan?” maybe Wei Wuxian misheard what the alpha had said, perhaps he felt worse than what he thought, suddenly he felt lightheaded. “The baby.”
pov wei wuxian, canon divergence, sunshot campaign, omegaverse, omega wei wuxian, alpha lan wangji, teen pregnancy, unplanned pregnancy, intersex omegas, lan wangji and wei wuxian are lan sizhui's parents, lan wangji and wei wuxian are lan jingyi's parents, pregnant wei wuxian, there was only one bed, food insecurity, mental health issues, hurt/comfort, angst with a happy ending

Hi! For your summer WIP recommendations, I'd love to put forth this story! I have utterly been sucked into this tale of divergence when, two years after the Cloud Recess Lectures, there's a fight for power within the Wen sect, leading to very different outcomes. Initially, the focus is on Wei Wuxian and his treatment within the Jiang Clan as he performs his duties as head disciple. Wei Wuxian is NOT oblivious to his feelings for Lan Wangji in this one and I'm absolutely emotionally invested in this story. I can't wait to see where it goes! @doctorbunsenhoneydew

This life
by dass22 (dass15)
T, Series, WIP, 66k, Wangxian
Summary: What would happen if Wei Wuxian had never been found by Jiang fengmian and had been raised in the Cloud Recesses instead? Basically an au where Wei Wuxian is raised in Gusu and Jiang Cheng meets him when he goes to study at the Cloud Recesses. This is the story of how they become friends with an added twist. Kay's comments: This series is marked as a WIP, but that shouldn't deter you, because it's more of a collection of stories and it doesn't leave on a cliffhanger or anything. The author is also absolutely against angst with this series and decided to go full-fluff by eliminating Wen Ruohan. So! A sweet story of Wei Wuxian growing up in the Lan Sect, but still being friends with Jiang Cheng. He's basically living his life beside Lan Wangji in a kinder universe. Sometimes you just need a story like this one, a little balm for your heart. Excerpt: “Running isn’t allowed in the Cloud Recesses.” He heard from above him. What the hell, he thought as he looked above him and saw a disciple from the Gusu Lan sect standing up on the wall. Jiang Cheng was having a hard time understanding how he’d gotten there so fast considering he’d heard those footsteps coming from the corridor. “Breaking into the Cloud Recesses also isn’t allowed or sneaking out past curfew.” The boy listed on his fingers. “And all on your first night. Wow that’s definitely gonna be one hell of a punishment.” The other boy finished as he jumped off the wall and landed right in front of Jiang Cheng. The boy before him was just a bit taller than him, seemed to be around his age, wore the Gusu Lan sect white robes, a ponytail and a shit eating grin on his face. Jiang Cheng had the urge to smack it away but decided to ignore it as to not get into any more trouble. “Finally something interesting happens during these night rounds. Do you know how boring it is to walk around the Cloud Recesses at night when everyone’s sleeping?“ the boy complained.
pov alternating, canon divergence, wei wuxian is a lan, wei wuxian isn't adopted by the jiangs, fluff, sweet, friendship, first meetings, family feels, developing relationship, childhood friends, friends to lovers, feelings realization, cloud recesses study arc, cloud recesses shenanigans, no sunshot campaign

Part of the MXTX Epic Journeys Big Bang
Summary: There’s a child lingering in the outskirts of the cultivation world. No one knows where he comes from, his age nor his goal. This is the story of how he found his way back home. Kay's comments: It's been a hot moment since I last read this, but I still remember how much of a hoot it's been! The story is absolutely incredible, like, it's definitely one of the most creative time-travel stories I've read! I really enjoyed how it came together slowly, it had me really hooked! Something happened that made the world forget Wei Wuxian, who now lingers at the edge of the culvation world as a nameless child (and in the past), helping where he can while the cultivation world grows worried over his influence. It was super cool to see him be re-introduced to the other charascters and I enjoyed everyone's characterization as well. Not for Jiang Cheng fans! Excerpt: “What is gongzi’s name?” he asks, realizing that at no point did the boy introduce himself. “Who knows?” The boy shrugs. It looks strange when he’s still hugging the sword. The act looks almost involuntary. “My name was forgotten and it’s not my place to tell.” Once again, Lan Zhan doesn’t know what to say. He can tell that there is a story behind this boy’s response and attitude, but he can’t pry. It is not his place to pry. He already overstepped once. Doing so again would just be rude. “Now, now, er-gongzi, it’s getting late. I’m sure you don’t want to skip your curfew. Oh, but the innkeeper only gives morning meals. You won’t get anything to eat now.” The boy sits on the bed near the window. The bed is a mess of outer robes and sheets. He makes himself comfortable, falling on the mattress with a plop and a pleased groan. He sounds nothing like the person who just lectured Lan Zhan on the intricacies of demonic cultivation. Lan Zhan sits down on the other bed. He carefully sets Bichen and Wangji down before removing his boots. He glances at ZhiRuo. Somehow, at some point, she laid her head on the table and fell asleep. Lan Zhan didn’t know ghosts could sleep at all. His gaze returns to the nameless boy. “About your cultivation method, can you tell me?” The boy blinks at him. He looks shocked. “You... Want to know?” “You made solid points.” Lan Zhan shifts until he is kneeling on the mattress. “I want to understand, so I can improve.” “Oh.” The boy scratches his neck. “That’s... Not what I was expecting. But it’s good! Very good! Definitely worthy of Han—of Lan-er-gongzi!”
pov alternating, canon divergence, time travel, time travel fix-it, temporary character death, hurt/comfort, grief/mourning, identity reveal, golden core reveal, cultivation sect politics, not cultivation world friendly, not jiang cheng friendly, abusive yu ziyuan, angst with a happy ending, developing relationship, mystery

a tide in two seas
by occultings (microcomets) (@wanlangji)
E, 80k, Wangxian
Summary: A midnight train, two unexpected encounters, and a rift in spacetime. Kay's comments: Another spooky rec, though it's more mild horror here. I absolutely love the lore and the vibes of this story though! It was a super fun read and had me hooked until the very end. I also love the idea of modern Wangxian, who are not together yet and basically just met again after years apart, meeting canon era Wangxian, who are soooo married. Modern Wei Wuxian also got to keep his parents!! Wangxian are also gonna be Wangxian and what are they gonna do about meeting their alternate selves? Fuck them of course. Literally. Weirdo4Weirdo Wangxian, my beloved. Excerpt: Then Wei Ying lights up, a sunbeam fracturing through the dark, brighter than the talisman. “Oh my god, Lan Zhan!” he says, and Lan Zhan hadn’t realized that suspicion had made Wei Ying’s frame so rigid, because the sudden ease of tension is palpable. “What are the chances of — wait, hang on, I can’t believe you recognized me!” “Mn,” Lan Zhan says, hot from his neck to his ears. Wei Ying laughs, joyful peals just like Lan Zhan remembers, only much deeper. He’s grown so — handsome, Lan Zhan thinks, a little dazedly. Wei Ying had always been cute, but cute in a mismatched, preteen way; his two front teeth had been a little too long for the rest, earning him some mean nicknames from their peers. Rabbit something or other. He’d been gangly as he’d grown too fast into his limbs, clumsy and always moving too quickly. Lan Zhan had always found it so endearing, all of these faults. Wei Ying has grown into his smile, into his frame, into all of his features. Wei Ying shakes his head, still laughing. “Lan Zhan, I can’t believe you remember me. After I spent all that time torturing you! Can you ever forgive me?” Lan Zhan doesn’t know what to say in response, suddenly aphasic. He had never been a match for Wei Ying’s wit, left speechless and fuming to Wei Ying flirting circles around him, secretly craving every word of it against all of his better judgment. “I didn’t mind that much,” Lan Zhan manages. “We were young.”
pov lan wangji, pov wei wuxian, modern setting, modern with magic, canon era, time travel, dimension travel, post-canon, getting together, foursome, selfcest, mild horror, developing relationship, love confessions, friends to lovers, mutual pining, first time, jiang cheng & wei wuxian reconciliation, loss of virginity, married couple, weirdo4weirdo wangxian

Summary: Lan Zhan blinked, and pushed his wet hair off his forehead as he slid off his surfboard and stood upright. Wei Ying was standing on the beach, holding a pair of sandals and staring out, his sand-covered bare feet carefully out of reach of the actual water. There was a strange, mournful twist to his mouth that faded when he saw that he wasn’t alone, replaced by a warm smile. “Lan Zhan, is that you?” “Mn,” he replied, and walked up to meet him there in the middle of the sand. Privately, he thought, who else would it be? Wei Ying laughed. “I thought so, but I wasn’t sure. You looked good out there.” — the "almost everybody lives in a small beach town" au

Summary: A young man vanishes before the Gusu summer lectures. Five years later Lan Wangji finds him in a house they cannot leave. A house shrinking around them. Kay's comments: Are you into horror? Are you into Bottomji? Omegaji? Here for the irresistable Yiling Laozu Wei Wuxian vibes? This story is for you! I absolutely love the spooky atmosphere of it, just Alpha Wei Wuxian trapped inside a house for years until Lan Wangji gets trapped there as well and them working on getting out and falling for each other. Also stunning fanart! Excerpt: Lan Wangji remembers the panic five years past, the morning summer lectures began. Jiang Yanli’s voice rang through the hills, calling for her missing brother. Jiang Wanyin’s angry mutters never reached the worry in his eyes. Sect Leader Jiang arrived at Cloud Recesses the next day, then left with Lan Xichen and a search party. They spent weeks combing through Gusu before the Jiangs were forced to return home. Lan Wangji remembers the absence of the Jiang siblings from classes. The quiet unease giving way to the routine of lectures. He remembers a meeting of eyes. An interest, an irritation, and a small satisfaction upon getting the better of a disrespectful young man. Then a pang of guilt when he came to collect the Jiang party and the young man was not among them. Lan Wangji had done his part the night Wei Wuxian disappeared, keeping watch over the gates until long after curfew, waiting on a rooftop under a full moon. Guilt grew with every passing shichen, and kept him company long after leaving his post.

Summary: “It’s okay that you miss him,” said Lan Wangji, a familiar litany to them both by now. “Do you feel sad?” “I feel sad,” A-Yuan repeated, shoulders hitching with tiny hiccuping sniffs. “When is he coming back?” “I don’t know. I am not sure where he is.” But this seemed to frustrate A-Yuan. “Xian-gege! I miss him! Please, baba?” He looked up at him with wet cheeks and a wide, quivering frown. “Please baba can you ask him? I really miss him!” He sobbed again, heartbreakingly. It stabbed straight through him, cracking open the reservoir of loss and helplessness that was all his own. His child’s grief did that, sometimes. It always took him by surprise. He caught his breath sharply and gathered A-Yuan into his arms, holding him tight until the pain ebbed. “I will try,” he said softly into A-Yuan’s hair, when he could speak again. He never made uncertain promises and tried not even to raise uncertain hopes, but his son was hurting. His son believed he could make it better. He couldn’t not try. Wen Qing might at least know who this “Xian-gege” was. He would text her in the morning. It would be a start. Kay's comments: This story destroys you in the best way possible. It's so soft and so tender and heart-breaking and I re-read it whenever I'm in the mood for some soft tears. In this story, Wen Qing and Mianmian fostered A-Yuan for a while and Wei Wuxian took care of him in the afternoons and got really attached. When A-Yuan was eventually adopted, it broke Wei Wuxian's heart and he felt really betrayed and left for a while (it also triggered him a lot, because of his own issues surrounding adoption and fostering.) Years laters, here he is meeting A-Yuan again and of course his adopted father is none other than the hot guy who he's been hitting one for almost a year at the cafe where he works. I'm loving the relationship Wei Wuxian has with the others and there's also a podfic available! Excerpt: He’d spent a lot of time looking at and thinking about Lan Zhan, just accidentally, and all the while he’d been very carefully not thinking about the stranger who was A-Yuan’s dad, so the universe was clearly playing a very big joke on him. “How about that,” he said quietly. “He’s been coming to the cafe every week for like a year now. Did you know that?” He looked at her sharply, because it occurred to him suddenly that it might not have been the universe playing the joke. “Did you know?” “No! A-Xian. Come on. I would never do that.” “Yeah, okay. But,” he straightened up, “you knew he was hot! You never told me he was hot, that might have changed everything!” “I’m a lesbian.” “I refuse to believe you can’t recognize that much male beauty, just objectively. And what’s Mianmian’s excuse?” “Do, please ask her,” said Wen Qing, so dry his skin prickled. “And what exactly would it have changed?” “Everything!” He flashed her his biggest grin. “I could’ve just asked him to marry me!”

Part of the Wangxian Summer Exchange 2021
Summary:"You want me to help you zip up your dress?" Lan Zhan just wants to verify. It never hurts to be sure, with Wei Ying. Wei Ying chews on his lower lip. It’s not quite as red as the dress, but it’s close — dark where the dress is bright, but the same kind of liveliness, the same seductive lure. "Yeah? If you don’t mind." * Lan Zhan's roommate starts wearing dresses. Lan Zhan finds himself helping. Kay's comments: Hnnnnnngg, this story. It's so good, so soft, so hot. Everything about it is just so great. Ili, I am on my knees. In which Wangxian are roommates and Wei Wuxian starts wearing dresses. It awakens something in Lan Wangji. They are so gone for each other and he's being such a sweetheart, caring so well for Wei Wuxian while holding back so much because he also just really wants to fuck him senseless. *chef's kiss* Excerpt: Then Wei Ying slips the jacket on, turns around and flips his hair back over his shoulders, and. Oh. He looks fuckable. He looks utterly, impossibly fuckable. His hair frames his face, giving him a soft, open appearance, the loose strands reaching just past his collarbones, above where the dress starts. His jacket ends at the waistline, tight-fitted, accentuating the narrow circumference of his hips even further, and that dress… It’s inviting without being promiscuous, lively without being too gaudy. Wei Ying prances towards the long mirror hanging by his door, examines himself critically, then turns to Lan Zhan and asks, "Well? How do I look?" Fuckable. Which isn’t something Lan Zhan ever imagined he would think about any person wearing a dress, least of all his overly-excited, far-too-often-irritating roommate.

Summary: Cangse Sanren would be disappointed. (Where LQR, right smack in the middle of the war, realizes that WWX doesn’t have a Core. He promptly enlists his own pining nephew in ensuring that, after winning the war for them, WWX is going to end up with GL instead of YJ. He owes that much to Cangse Sanren.) Kay's comments: Read this and understood why the author was struggling whether to tag good uncle Lan Qiren or bad uncle Lan Qiren lol. I mean, he creates a fix-it and is the force behind Wei Wuxian getting a better life during and after the Sunshot Campaign even with the outlook of a new golden core, but his methods are questionable, intentionally making Wei Wuxian addicted to regular energy transfusions which Lan Wangji is happy to supply. Really great read and a fascinating take on Lan Qiren. Excerpt: Wei Wuxian had been one of his brightest students. Clever and smart and curious in a way that spoke of a brilliant future. Qiren has been furious at the thought of the potential lost to the boy falling to the temptation of power. And yet. Qiren has done nothing to aid him, nothing to turn him back towards the righteous path. Not now. Not while it is the boy’s unorthodoxy that lets him carve a path for the Sunshot Campaign’s forces to march onwards. They are at war. Many of those fighting are still young, but many of them are also old enough to recognize a child risking his own soul for the benefit of all. It is disingenuous for the allied to claim distaste at his powers when they are also relying on him to aid their war. To win it for them. Yes, Cangse would indeed have been disappointed. But not only in her son. If anything, most of her disappointment might have been reserved for everyone else. For everyone watching and whispering and condemning but not doing anything to help.

hello there, im finally able to send my summer recs!!
One of my favorite fics in the mdzs fandom, and my favorite work in progress at the moment, missing only four chapters until it's concluded, and has weekly updates. It's a masterpiece, from the writing style, characterization, worldbuilding and plot. The author makes it seem like something that could have been written by mxtx herself, while giving their own skills the recognition it deserves.
At the beginning of the story we get to see Wei Wuxian's life, position and responsibilities in the Jiang Sect not only in the complicated and emotionally charged Jiang main family, but also showing how he interacts with the others members of the sect, how he is a good Head Disciple who is good at his job. How he interacted with the Lan and Nie delegations is a delight, not only because his interactions with Lan Wangji are the cutest, but because it also shows how political aware and competent he is, even if not a mastermind of a politics.
Everything is so masterfully done that it could easily be the path that the characters lives could have taken in canon, with how the characterization is faithfully done. The canon material is explored to the most subtle of details, and we can see the characters, the sects, cultivation and their society growing into their flaws and virtues with all the self-indulgence of fanfic and all the character of canon. - Anon

Summary: A certain boy we all know and love gets injured. Lan Zhan saves him by using a qi alignment technique. However, the technique has some apparent side effects... Or: Gusu Lan summer school if Wei Wuxian was *aware* he was madly in love with Lan Wangji. Kay's comments: This story is so delightful! Wei Wuxian has an accident at the start of the lectures and Lan Wangji saves him with a forbidden technique. The side-effect: They now are in love with each other. The catch: Wei Wuxian doesn't think it's due to the technique, because obviously he's in love with Lan Wangji because Lan Wangji is great! Do you see where this is going? There's going to be some heartbreak in this, but don't worry, happy ending guaranteed! I'm absolutely living for pining Wei Wuxian! Excerpt: Zewu-jun and Lan Qiren come around the table to check on his wound. They make little muttering and mumbling noises behind him as Wei Wuxian’s brain whirls with a thousand plans. This Lan Zhan looks to be his age, but he’s pulled together and elegant in a way Wei Wuxian could never be. Perhaps they’ll share a classroom. Wei Wuxian will pass him charming little notes to get his attention. Or perhaps he can catch him meditating (or brooding, he looks like a brooder) and get to know him then. Or perhaps Wei Wuxian will just wow him with his intellect, charm, and general amazingness. There are countless ways to get closer to him, and Wei Wuxian can’t wait to start. Oh, he’s in love. He’s so in love. Zewu-jun asks “How are you feeling?” again, and Wei Wuxian is about to answer when he realizes the question isn’t being posed to him. Lan Xichen is facing Lan Zhan with an expression of concern. Lan Zhan replies, “It’s manageable.” “Good to hear. Wei-gongzi, I need to speak with you about the nature of your recovery last night.” He speaks as though he’s embarrassed; Wei Wuxian shoots a look to Jiang Cheng, who shrugs. “They didn’t tell us anything.” Zewu-jun and Lan Qiren look at Wei Wuxian with strangely sympathetic eyes; Lan Zhan still stares at the floor. “In order to save you, Wangji used an unorthodox method of qi alignment that may have some side effects. If you have trouble restraining … inappropriate thoughts or actions … please come see me and we will find medication.” Inappropriate? Wei Wuxian doesn’t think he’s having any inappropriate thoughts or actions. Everything seems completely normal up in his brain. “I’ll… remember that, thank you Zewu-jun,” he says, bowing his head. “Rest as long as you need to,” Zewu-jun says. “When you are ready, we’ll welcome you to the daily lecture.” Yes! Classes! A great place to flirt. “Will, ah, Wangji-xiong over here be attending lectures as well?” He can’t help but ask.
