I am sorry I know we all are loosing our minds right now.
Tumblr media
But look at his face. Are you honestly going to tell me that face is not longing? Yearning? The total concentration on her features, like he is trying to figure something out. The total calm in his eyes? The framing? The light? She just heard him talk about how this other girl was so great for him, and he proceeds to look at her like this. Even if he ends up with Claire, somebody needs to address all of this.
Storer is definitely making me doubt my media literacy, and I went to school for it. Is it not giving me any jobs already. Should I burn my degree?

It is actually fascinating
I have watched comedies where they make fuck up things seem light and funny
How is that in The Bear the comedy serves to make the fucked up situations feel even more fucked up?
The combination of Carmy being too focused and trapped in returning to a more toxic version of himself to care about his birthday + that piñata and Richie singing in Spanish is peak The Bear. Most comedy ever.

I am tired of Sydney being a “knight in shining armor” for these immature men
Tumblr media
The trailer of s3 made me reflect on a big problem with the show for me so far. The use of Sydney on the plot overall and in the character arcs of men. This is a rant, if you happen to be on the side of the fandom that think these men are perfect and Syd is valued as their support, feel free to scroll.
Part 1: the woman
Sydney Adamu is insecure on her leader/social skills and her creative habilities. That, and her kindness, is what makes the audience root for her. She is releatable but most important she is real, she has taken it impulse by impulse, creating on the fly ways to succeed in a industry not very welcoming to people with her personality (or that look like her). All of that makes sense in a story of an underdog.
But yet, the show has normalized at this point how much shit she takes from a group of really emotionally immature people. And how much they expect her to figure it out answers to the problems that they themselves cause.
Thinking about it like an animal getting into a new pack without the capacity to defend herself from any attack. The shitshow she tolerated in s1 has never been properly addressed and it seems like the worst storm is yet to come in s3. She fixed the logistics of the beef and implemented a hierarchy. Things that Carmy was incapable of doing due to his story with the staff and his own mental turmoil. In s2, she was the only professional chef actively making decisions and efforts in the future of the restaurant. Carmy even reprimanded her for not making the decisions he was supposed to do. And she reminded him “you wanted the final say, this is on you)
Syd is not helpless in any way, but she has applied kindness and fairness most of the time to this point, and I wonder if this time that is gonna cut it. I am mostly tired to get her back to that scenario again. If anything, the part that got me the most excited of Richie’s redemption is how she could actually rely on him. And then it came the trailer.
Part 2: the men
Tumblr media
The part that got my blood boiling in the trailer is the response “Show me a functional one” from Richie and Carmy.
We are in season 3, and with all the growth and all those balls, these men seem to expect her to fix an issue, wich core is actually their own emotional immaturity. I am sick of it. “Mother, maid, therapist”🎶
She must deal with Carmy’s recklessness and the fight between him and Richie. A very green new staff and a unqualified old staff mostly. All of that creates the dysfunctionality in question, and I wonder where her character will go to resolve it. The restaurant had a shaky base (particularly on front house staff and line cooks) and now Carmy is getting on everyone’s nerves. Putting fire to an already unstable chemical.
Part 3: Heroine’s Journey
It would take a pro to resolve all of this shit, and the people involved (and responsible for the problem) turn to this young, inexperienced woman for guidance and answers because the only person in the kitchen with actual industry experience is trapped in his own destroying tendencies.
That is not only the underdog story that is human vs forces of nature, another common plot structure. Forces of nature incarnated in unstable men and our hero is a woman. That is so fucked up and yet so real. That is the value I give to this scenario.
I really don't think that, besides Tina and Nat, there is a single member if that kitchen aware of how much Syd was alone last season picking Carmy’s slack. And even they were barely able to help her. Everybody else was to happy for Carmy loosing his virginity apparently. All this scenario could very well repeat itself this season on how much they are insisting on Claire and Carmy getting back together.
I know the show is about leaving toxic cycles and the people who can help you get better. Sydney is supposed to be made from a different matter than the Bearzattos because otherwise, the toxicity will continue. I just wish she could coldly let them know how much of a pest they can be sometimes. And not be treated as unfair because she left her “role” in creating a new system. Anger is boundarie setting emotion and it can be very constructive, and expressed without the chaos of the Bearzattos. She did this in s1 and if done again I think this time the general audience (except the racist/misogynistic obviously) will understand that this tough love is necessary as well.
Let's not normalize (in this show) women taking shit to be good women and a reward for seeing the potential of men. It is not like society is not doing that for us already.
Sydney is not a punching bag, and she knows it, she definitely will stand her ground this season, wich can be very encouraging to young woman entering a workforce that is not designed to support them. I think she will go to Ember to work closely with Chef Terry (Olivia Coleman) to get knowledge of how women can shape this toxic places. It will be her version of forks. The toxicity may escalate to a turning point for her. She tolerated (and transformed) s1 and s2, we know what is in her heart. The point will definitely come, because this is the time for evolving or dying, for everyone.
But again, I need these men (besides you, Marcus, you are going to be her rock) to start taking responsibility for the shit they are fucking up. That would be nice. I am sure there will be moments of it since this growth is literally the show's theme. I am just kind of tired of the “Mother, maid, therapist🎶” undertone of it all. It could be applied to Nat and Tina as well.

I just realized something.
Tumblr media
In the trailer, we see Marcus talking to Carmy, possibly in his first day back. What if he explains to Carmen that he asked Sydney out and mentions the “you push me and I push you” thing he told her.
THEN, later, when Carmy brings the partnership agreement to Syd, he will use Marcus words because the idea of Syd collaborating with another guy makes him sick?

Not only is the raw version of “you make me better at this” is also kinda the toxic version of it. Carmy knows he is gonna spiral but he believes in the excessive pushing that his industry has taught him. He believes that is the only way to succeed because is the only one he saw. He believes isolation and rejection made him better and he may think is the way to make everyone better and now you will have a group of people fighting from drowning instead of a cohesive ship (not pun intended).
Syd joined the beef to make a difference and now she will be trapped (if she sings the agreement) with the part of the industry she was running away from.
As ugly as it sounds, I don't think she will quit; she will stay like a captain sinking with his ship. Not only for Carmy, but for everyone else.
That is the part I am most excited. If no-one thinks they can rely on Carmy, the full leadership of this will fall on Syd. She will have to encourage, rebuild and train everyone so they don't drown in their inexperience plus Carmys crazy expectation.
Tumblr media
I think the storm he will cause is the scenario for her to grow. In the tempest, she will be every one’s rock.
If this is to set up Syd as Carmy's life partner, it would be brilliant because she could survive and change from within at the worst version of him. If they get together we know it can only get better from here.
This is also kind of problematic ngl. Partnership agreement? What partnership dude? All Sydney does is putting down your fires. If she leaves, it will be because of that, not because Carmy hurt his feelings in a rage episode, but because she may start doubting the point of the partnership. And I would agree. Carmy needs to act as a partner.
"Push boundaries"
"So that you can push me and...I can push you"
That part I can't get over. Why describe that's one of the reasons for that agreement? Because knows it can get ugly at times between them but he's in it for the long haul? Is that what Carmy is saying?
and when he said the ending "I can push you" like he knows she won't like it at times but if they "make each other better at this", as they once said, it wont be easy? Translation: sydney I know it may get rough at times but please don't leave me
It's almost the raw version of you make me better at this. Because pushing each other in a relationship can be hard work.
He just accepts that Sydney challenges him and he wants to do the same for her...
Carmy what do you mean by pushing?

Spoiler alert for a Sydcarmy moment in s3: Kasama
Like I said this is something that looked like a filming but the s3 trailer confirmed. Read if you need hope/sydcarmy evidence for the future.
Tumblr media
Kasama was closed for the bear filming in season 3. Photos were taken inside Kasama with Ayo and Jeremy that were published later. Ayo was wearing a brown leather jacket, and Jeremy was wearing a dark suit similar to the one he wore in the trailer. They were having dinner, other people with elegant suits. Sitting close, candles nearby.
We didn't know the context of the photo, and most people assumed it was Jeremy and Ayo actually hanging out like they do. I can't find the post, I commented on it because they both look fine as hell.
So if I am right, in this gif, Carmy is now walking home from, or in direction to, a “professional” date with Syd, maybe to talk her about what their partnership means to him.
Guys, I am so seated.

I am gonna put a happy thought in your head
What if the “apologies” happen this way. Sydcarmy oriented.
Claire comes back to the restaurant to see Carmy after that pathetic Fak intervention, only to find a scene between Carmy and Syd similar to the table scene, or even an argument when Carmy admits how much Syd means to him. Claire hears it, and storms out. Then, Carmy decides to apologize. Richie is part of the situation, maybe because he still wants Carny with Claire, but in his apology, Claire confronts Carmy about Sydney as well.

Here I go trying to predict the season finale
Tumblr media
Spoilers if I am correct based in previous seasons
First season ends with Carny looking at a Mickey flashback. Season 2 ends with him looking at a Claires flashback intersecting with hopefull Syd. In both cases it is framed as a goodbye, or thinking of the lost.
If season 3 ends with Carmy being with Claire but thinking of a Sydney flashback after she left the bear and him for good, I am gonna lose my shit.

Claire, Richie and Fak keep treating Carmy like a child
In the long list of 🤨momments I had while watching Claire, are those when she literally said to Carmy, in a cute flirty voice, a version of “why don't you say this” and Carmy goes an says it. It happened twice as I recall. When she said “say one more time (that you wanted to have my number) and the other when they were helping that drunk girl at the party (that saint Claire ended up abandon either way) and she asked Carmy to repeat something. It gave “mother” “teacher” vibes. It is the thing that you do when you have to mold a child. She was molding him to her liking.
Same with Richie and Fak, breaking boundaries and insisting on them dating. Carmy definitely associates being with Claire with pleasing his family (Mickey included) when one of Carmy’s core wounds is how much they rejected him and his profession after Mickey banished him.
Carmy has feeling for Claire, I don't deny that. She is pleased with Carmy to the point of not demanding anything from him when he grow up in a house surrounded by people who made him think he was not good enough. People who treat our core wounds can be very seductive, to the point we may ignore others parts of our emotional needs. That is not either good or bad, but is good to be aware of it. How much you want this person because they made you feel you are not as bad as you think you are? How does that affect the dynamic?
The show is making a point to tell us how much Carmy may have never pursue a relationship with this her (mind you, even Claire said they were never close growing up) if his family had not pushed him in that direction.
Is not about “oh he is shy so he needs help” or that he is mentally ill. Loving someone doesn't mean taking away their agency. If anything If you love “molding” somebody, you just love the person they are after you molded them.
Tumblr media
I think that comes back to his panicky attack. He seems unable to detach Claire from all the horrible memories and wounds related to his family. He may even feel that to be with with her, but he must be “molded” to all those expectations, theirs and hers. Do with that what you will.

Never agreed with something more in my entire life. I want that for Syd too, I would even enjoy a replay on a former relationship (heart swords tattoo on her shoulder while the Carmy Claire scenes made me think she is carrying a broken heart before meeting him) while exploring a new relationship with someone else that helps her heal that, while Carmy resolves his Claire shit.
Love the fancast, I want more great actors in this show.
I want Syd to have a love interest this season and not just anyone. My casting would be no other than Lakeith Stanfield 🔥
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He’s such a delightful mix of quirkiness, humor, and raw sexuality that he’d make a great secondary character opposite Ayo. Not to mention he’s incredibly handsome. Claire aside, Sydney deserves something with a little heat and I don’t want her waiting around for Carmy. Homegirl is a force and she should have a man who can bring out the best parts of her. Even as a hardcore Sydcarmy shipper, I’d never wish pining for Carmy on her. He’s doing his weird Claire shit, so she needs to do her.

Marcus is selling his house
Tumblr media
At the beginning I thought syd was in his new apartment here, but is says for sale and I don't think she will be buying anything.
Also I love to see Marcus, he is like a safe boat in this tempest of a show. Pete and Marcus are one of the 5 non problematic male characters in this show.

I actually want him to get back with Tiffany, because I think she hadn't move on him yet. That “I love you” as she told him she was gonna marry another man? Like, common.
In the picture with Eva, Ritchie doesn't have his wedding ring on. I am telling you now that if we have a scene of him taking it off that I am not ready for it, but also give it to me now as Ebon will absolutely kill it.
OH MY GOD YOU ARE SO RIGHT!!!!! no ring!!!! oh my god he is going to KILL that scene where he takes it off holy shit i can't wait
