Another link to this post. Meet the parents style.
So, Danny and Jason have been fake dating for a while now, and ended up marrying each other solely for tax benefits. Also, they got cool ass fucking friendship rings that they just couldn't not wear everywhere and being married is convenient so...
Anywho, so Jason has met Danny's parents but Danny hasn't met Jason's parents. Danny knows that he has some ties with the vigilantee scene due to being a Crime Lord-he still doesn't know what to think of his parents connecting the dots immediately when they only met him once while it took him more than that while living with the guy.
He thinks Jason may have been an ex-vigilantee at some point before turning to crime.
Then Danny gets blinded by rich people aura when he finds out that his bestfriend is the long thought dead child of Bruce Wayne. Frankly, he's insulted.
You mean to tell him that his could've been buying ice cream from that high class place all this time!? He shook (literally he grabbed and shook him) that point into Jason, he doesn't care that Jason never told him he was rich but he could've at least bought some high class ice cream once in a while.
Jason who was busy solidifying his power as a crime lord, avoiding his family and making sure not to leak his identity at all: I'm a literal crime lord, and the only thing you care about is me not buying you ice cream?
Danny: YES!!!!
Jason: Dork.
Right anyways, so Jason takes Danny along to meet Bruce and his fam but did say as soon as he started being uncomfortable they're leaving. The batfam is a bit blindsided by Danny, because they thought Jason was bringing his partner but its good to also get a feel for Danny's personality.
Danny and Jason did what's normal for them when Danny starts getting comfortable around the manor full of things that cost waaay more than his rent. Like half-heartedly insulting each other, being snarky, leaning on each other and other such things.
The batfam start thinking that there's more there than they know of. So they start watching a bit closer and ask a few round about questions that fly over Danny and Jason's heads. They just forget they're married often, unless it's regarding taxes.
All of this sends the wrong message when they walk into the same room and, being nosy, one of the batfam comes up to the door and uh. They hear the bed moving quite a lot.
So.
Meanwhile, Jason is trying to wrestle with Danny because this man does not pick a lane. He'll either be the human octopus (who is cold as hell) Jason has ever seen, he'll try to kick him off the bed in his sleep as if Jason personally offended him in some way, or he'll sleep in some wacky position that interrupts Jason's sleep. The last one is tied to the other two, however.
So, Jason has to frequently wrestle this man into a proper position where they both manage to get some sleep and it wouldn't have been so bad if Danny wasn't a goddamn sleep fighter. He would know, he had to nurse a bruised jaw for a few weeks.
Why do they sleep together? Listen, when you're in an apartment with not a lot of money, you gotta cut costs where you can alright?

Is anyone else convinced that Maddie’s “wow” wasn’t actually a “I didn’t think that’s where your interests would lie” wow?
Cause that sounded like a “my brother is such a bisexual disaster he didn’t even make it to the movie” wow if I’ve ever heard one and she just wanted to be supportive so she quickly pivoted into covering.
Just me? Ok then.

I hope when Buddie goes canon, we get a scene of them on a date like we did with Buck and Tommy. They’re awkward, and cute, and nervous, and things are going good. Then it gets interrupted by like, Karen and Hen.
They haven’t told anybody at the 118 that they’re dating but this is fine. Buck and Eddie are friends and friends sometimes go out to eat together. There is no reason to suspect that that isn’t what’s happening now. Until Buck opens his mouth.
Because Buck knows that this is a date, and he’s a terrible liar, and he panics. He blurts out the exact same line about how they’re going to go pick up chicks later because chicks dig firefighters.
Karen and Hen exchange looks and then one of them asks point blank, “Are you guys on a date right now?”

When Eddie comes out as gay the funniest thing Buck can do is set him up on a blind date with Josh only for Buck to learn too late that Josh and Eddie don't like each other.

She turned off the overhead light but kept the lamp on her desk on. She couldn’t help but once again feel a little too self-aware as she crawled under her sheets, knowing Eddie was just on the other side of her on the floor.
She peered over the edge of the twin sized mattress. “You okay down there?”
“Peachy,” he replied. “I’m right here, in case something happens, okay?”
“Yeah.” She rested her chin on her hands and gazed down at him.
“Would you quit that?”
“What?”
“Looking at me.”
“Why? I’m pretty sure you stare at me all the time.”
“Not like you look at me.”
She raised an eyebrow. “Yeah you do.”
“Wait, I do?”
She had to smother a laugh with her hand. “Yes.”
“Oh. I didn’t realize…”
“It’s nice.”

I was tagged by @honestlydarkprincess and @spotsandsocks , however I'm not doing Seven Sentence Sunday today for the simple reason that I've bitten the bullet and actually posted the first chapter of my time travel AU!!!!
Buck was bored.
The flickering light from two hundred candles bounced off the pier glasses that lined the ballroom creating a warm glow as the crush of bodies of the elite of Bath society danced before him, and Buck was bored. He was also depressed and trying desperately to hide it from the world. The Buckley family might’ve come to Bath for Daniels health, but Buck was relived to escape London and the whispered gossiping that had followed him after Miss Clark had left.
Miss Clark’s, Abby’s, decision to leave for the continent had created a flurry of rumours about why she had gone when Buck had been on the verge of ignoring his parents disapproval and making her an offer of marriage. He had never been able to gain their approval in anything previously and she had made him feel alive and seen for the first time. Seen as a person and not as the failure spare, the pale imitation born incase his older and beloved brother died.
Maddie and Daniel, had been the only ones to see him as a person. As more than an insurance policy for their fathers dynastic aspirations. But they were his siblings, so when Abby had come into his life, bright and unknowing of his past and the reason he existed, Buck had fallen, and fallen hard. When she had suddenly left him to travel the continent and find herself, he had been glad to escape from London, but he was finding Bath to be full of the same gossiping busybodies at the same uninteresting society events he had hoped to escape and so, he was bored.

curious where this idea is coming from that the ghost family doesn't know about each others' forms. literally in-game you have napstablook calling into mettaton's show, and this is a ghost so socially anxious their friend request rejects itself. the christmas party dialogue has mad mew mew forcing mettaton to drink ghost juice, which would be completely pointless if she didn't know he was once a ghost, and he also seems to be aware of it ("Drinking ghost juice...that neither of us could taste" would be not half as sad if mew mew was never a ghost, in addition to the fact that they're both equally concerned abt napstablook, who they both know does not have many friends outside their family). w/ all respect to the "I think mad mew mew and mettaton would get along much better if they knew they were related :)" crowd, They Know.
and he still thinks she's a hussy.

My Month in Books: January 2023
I really struggled with reading this month. After nearly reaching 50 at the end of last year and coupled with a crazy work month, I haven’t felt the most motivated to read or felt pressured by the internal numbers game. Which is something I never subscribed to until I realized that reading 50 books was a possibility for me. Seeing how much other people read does impact me more than I would like to think it does.
Still, I read three! And it was proof that I need to get back to the mindset that 2 books a month is a good goal to keep me in the habit, that reading a lot is not the same thing as reading well, and that our reading numbers fluctuate for all sorts of reasons.
Maps of Our Spectacular Bodies by Maddie Mortimer: First of all, this bitch is MY age and the sophistication of this story is so upsetting to me. Maps tells the story of Lia, a happily married mother of a young daughter, who is diagnosed with terminal cancer. The book flips back and forth between Lia’s present process of dying, Lia’s past being raised the daughter of an evangelical minister and her abusive first relationship, and the voice of her cancer. I so, so, so enjoyed this. The second quarter of this book was a little muddy but it really stuck the landing. The perspective she has on Matthew is so interesting and felt very real to me. From the outsider’s perspective, we can see that a teenager and a twenty-something should…like not be dating. The way that MM shows how being with someone with that sort of critical age difference impacts Lia’s relationship to herself, her self-worth and confidence, isolates her from her peer group, makes her lonely before any physical abuse has even occurred is really subtle. The implication that what abuse looks like can be different, can be subtle, can even be unintentional is so good here—Matthew gets with Lia, I think, initially less from a sense of power but rather from a profound immaturity without understanding the profound implications of a fifteen year old having sex with a twenty-one year old. The idea that she views this relationship as a romance, even after it’s violent conclusion and takes on some of the blame for the fact that Matthew abuses her, still, years later, I think is also really well-done. It’s a complicated dynamic and MM allows us to be immersed in an uncomfortable, unsafe, and unreconciled point of view. The twist at the end, the idea that we’ve been living inside a retelling of Wuthering Heights the whole time made me lose my mind, I will not lie to you. I get why people will not like this book the way I did. I think so much of my enjoyment has to do with the fact that I listened on audio and so the things that felt gimmicky in print and might have driven me crazy if I was reading a physical copy of the book. this book is flawed, certainly, and could have used with some grounding but!!! I still gave it 5 stars. (Recommended via Jen Campbell’s YouTube Channel)
The 13 Clocks by James Thurber: This was a perfect read for a snowy day!! I read this in two big gulps. It’s a delightfully dark children’s book about an evil Duke who keeps his niece, the beautiful Saralinda, captive in a cold castle. A prince, with the aid of a magical creature called a Golux, go on a mission to rescue her. It’s Jacobean and whimsical and dark. I think that if I had read this as a child I would have lost my mind and it would have altered my brain chemistry. It’s fun as an adult because the pattern of the language is so much fun to chew on but I literally cannot wait to read this to a kid. Neil Gaiman listed it as one of his favorite books and I have an interview with him about this book queued up and I can’t wait to hear more.
The Secret History by Donna Tartt: I have finally read it! And I am in the camp that loved it lol. I think its use of perspective is brilliant, the characters and setting are so well-drawn. It is truly immersive. What I don’t see people talking enough about is how poundingly funny it is? People talk about adapting it into a film or show and it always sounds so serious and it’s like…this would literally be Derry Girls with murder. I do have two criticisms which is…I think the last third is quite bloated and loses focus. I also think that Charles’ descent and apparent control and jealousy over Camilla needed more set up….like, her and Henry’s relationship felt very complete even while it occurred off-screen and I had the impression that incest could be a twist early on but…I felt like it needed more flesh to it. But other than that, so so so so good. I do think it hits a little different if you went to a small New England liberal arts college…like there were parts that rang uncomfortably true about the culture of Hampden. And having lived in the area where it was set for many years…there’s a mythology to the region that DT plays on really well.
