a knock on your door wakes you from the light sleep you’d been in. a small ‘come in’ has ellie gently opening the door and walking softly towards your bed. her hands brush hair from your face, a kind smile on her face. something you can’t pinpoint in her eyes.
“you doing okay babe?” her voice is just above a whisper, though no one else would be home to hear it otherwise. “tired?”
you hum an answer out and reach for one of her hands, fiddling with her rings and avoiding her eyes. “can you turn off the light and sit with me?” she smiles and nods, savoring one more second before standing and taking off her jacket while walking to the switch.
its still light out, the evening sun beginning to set but still lighting up enough of your room. as she’s getting in beside you, she notices what you’re wearing. “nice shirt,” ellie says with a snort.
its one of hers, you stole it a few weeks ago with no intention of giving it back. her heart grows as a small smile graces your features. “there she is.” you flush and turn away. she coos teasingly while getting comfortable behind you.
when you do turn, shes the perfect pillow. her fingers trace your features as your eyes shutter closed.

i'm on my aspd izaya bullshit again but like. thru this lens, isnt his arc a perfect encapsulation on how aspd negatively affects the person that has it? even to this day, many professionals do not believe that pwASPD suffer from aspd. like at all. to the point where aspd was specifically listed as an outlier to the "patient distress is what defines a disorder" rule in an abnormal psych textbook
(see why i don't respect the field?)
but... he does suffer! a lot! like- remember his speech to mikado at the end of the first arc? how you need to keep evolving, keep changing in order to escape the mundane? how you have to keep going and going and going, wether it be aiming high or low?
yeah. normal people don't need to do this, izaya. you are a broken person.
but why SHOULD he be content with the mundane? the things people usually have that make them content with daily life- friends, family, a purpose, a distinct lack of extreme chronic boredom that drives you to do completely insane shit- izaya doesn't HAVE any of that!
"wait, chronic boredom?" i hear yall thinking. maybe. "isnt that an adhd thing?"
more than one disorder can have the same symptom. theres like a billion that have "want to die" as a symptom. but i dont really blame you for not knowing, its not talked about much
studies have shown that aspd and adhd are both problems with the dopamine receptors in the brain. more specifically, adhd is a chronic deficiency of dopamine, whereas with aspd, when you DO get dopamine, your brain gives you quardruple the normal amount.
studies have ALSO shown there to be a sort of... adhd to aspd pipeline. the story goes like this: you have a kid with adhd. maybe they're born like that, maybe the symptoms developed from trauma (which can happen? apparently??) anyway. kid gets abused. kid develops conduct disorder as a result of that abuse, as a natural extension of the existing adhd symptoms. they're MORE impulsive, which leads to them hurting others- and if it sets off the dopamine receptors, an abused kid starving for happiness and power is gonna chase it, no matter what. theyre like, six, they dont know anything about like. morality. all they know is, theyre sad and this makes them happy. anyway kid never gets treated, abuse continues to exasperate the symptoms, and now you have an adult with aspd, AND the original adhd diagnosis! and ptsd, which is HIGHLY comorbid with aspd! and probably another personality disorder, because you're actually statistically more likely to have two of them!
anyway! that's ONE of the ways aspd can develop from trauma, which it is Known To Do.
does any of that sound pleasant to go through? at all?
let me ask you a question:
imagine you aren't getting dopamine. maybe it's your adhd. maybe you're depressed. either way, you try to get it any way you can. wether it's throwing yourself into a hobby or a job, so the sense of satisfaction gives you dopamine, or something like drugs or gambling.
now, imagine that "rush" you felt. was Four Times Stronger.
wouldnt that compel you to do increasingly dangerous and risky shit, just to feel okay? imagine if you had no friends. imagine if this was your only way to be happy. wouldnt you, eventually, stop caring about others and only care about yourself? after all, other people have thinga like friends and a family that you don't have. they have a fallback. you only have this.
and you might say, "i'd never do that!" but every addict says that, and most eventually cross that line out of sheer desperation. and this? effectively makes you into a dopamine addict. which is dangerous! you can't just STOP... gettng dopamine....! it's necessary! but you have no help so you keep doing what youre doing. (and how could you get help? its baked into the system that people like you don't suffer. why try if youll just get burned?
anyway, back to izaya.
he's lonely. he has one friend and he sucks. he feels compelled to do these things even though he KNOWS it'll hurt him.

but it illustrates my point very well! does it look like he has much control over things?? he sure like to ACT like he does, but at the end of the day, he doesn't, really. he ends up spiraling more and more, doing increasingly risky and rash things, just to get his end goal... which is to die and ascend to the afterlife. a lofty goal.
aiming high, isn't he? a final, spectacular evolution.
or, it should have been.
but it wasn't.
izaya's impulses and deep desire to continue becoming more and more drastic, coupled with his lack of personal ties to anyone that could keep him from doing so....
it didn't make him ascend. it left him in a wheelchair, with chronic pain that will last his whole life.
THAT is where mental illness takes you. it doesn't make you a hollywood psychopath, reveling in the destruction you chose, of your own free will, wholly and truly, to cause. it makes you want More. no matter what, you need More. you see people content with lives worse than yours, everyone bound together with some sort of invisible thread, some sort of tie that keeps them together. a thread that missed you. your brain refuses to see people as people, thus you remain lonely forever, unsatiafied wirh company other than the superficial, because it's fun. that's all you're allowed to care about. an endless cycle of bigger and bigger actions, impulses slowly getting worse--
--and the worst part is, it tricks you into believing you ever had a choice. it tricks everyone into believing you had a choice. your suffering is worse than disregarded, to all the people you look at from your apartment, all the people you wish you could have been like.
it's nonexistant.

i think everyone knows that her intent wasnt to hurt miles or none of that and she just did what she had to do, she put herself first (which isnt wrong in this case) so dont hate on her for doin what she had to
yes betraying miles was a bad move but she didnt have any other choice when you think abt it
though the thing that bothers me a little is that she states (not openly) that she wants to be with miles and its obvious that he feels the same but when she obviously isnt in the right place for a relationship and neither is he
she might die in btsv (which i somewhat doubt but after seeing her look at her death in the movie im conflicted) and miles is going through his first major canon event, or artificial canon event if you will and he could lose his parents
but it would be healthier if they stayed platonic cause after btsv they are NOT be seeing each other again (if she lives) and maybe end off the trilogy with a lil kiss or sumn sumn

We're gonna do something a little different this #AudioDramaSunday! This week was one where music was my go-to rather than podcasts so instead of episode reviews, I'm gonna do a track-by-track breakdown of all of the music released so far for The Grotto as I had it on repeat
Starting off with Hush which is the first song on the album and also the show's theme. It's got a brilliant beat to it accompanied by these bursts of vocals that crescendo into a harshness that's excellent. The HUSH gives me chill every time. I'm fully obsessed with this song
The next track is the first instrumental. Dejected feels like the music you would find in a cave. It's creeping and wet and a little haunting before the softness of the piano and the beat hit. This song has a heartbeat to it that feels tangible in the best way
Buried Alive has some of my favorite lyrics Athan has written. There's just something about the way he sings "Maybe I would be happier buried alive" that chills me to the core. Also something you'll notice is Athan likes vocal modulation a lot and it always works so well
Matt's (Usually) Confused is very aptly titled. It starts soft and slowly builds to become more all encompassing, feeling like Matt's racing thoughts as it does so
I Will Follow You Into the Dark fucks me up (positive) "Love of mine, you will die, and I'll be close behind" like Athan how am I meant to recover from that? This song as a depth to it that can be felt, like it's carving its way into a deep cave and submerging itself in the dark
I absolutely adore Emily's Theme! There's something about it that brings the word "fleeting" to mind, like Emily is running through the music and making her way out through the song itself
Which leads us to Stumble Into You and holy fuck yall Lyssa Jay has a lovely voice. Yes I'm biased because I love Lyssa but I'm also RIGHT! This song makes me a little feral, especially where Lyssa and Athan meet in the song its beautifully done
We're at the first cover on the album! This is literally the only version of Ghost of You I will listen to, Athan brings a life to this song that punches to the lyrics way more effectively than the original version does
It's Cryptic in the Grotto is another very well named song because it sure can be cryptic in this godsdamned Grotto. The whispering of it all leaves me unsettled in the best way before opening into this plucky instrumental I'm obsessed with
Looking for Answers is so Orpheus and Eurydice coded that it drives me insane. "I still feel you behind me. Your breath is slow. I'm terrified I'll end up alone." Athan you can't do this to me. There's also a lovely fast bit in this with lyrics ricocheting through the verse
Athan's cover of Hurt might actually be my favorite version of this song I'm sorry except I'm not. It suits Athan's range so well and has this almost gravely texture to it that makes me feel like I'm going feral. Everything about it is deep and dark and wonderful
Coping is NOT aptly named. You know what Matt ISNT doing? Coping. He's not coping AT ALL. It's a beautiful song and it also has some of my favorite Athan lyrics but it's from an episode called Coping and let me tell yall Matt is not making good choices in this show
If You Could See Me Now breaks my heart in the best way. The idea of trying to make someone proud while knowing that you're disappointing yourself so you're not making them proud kills me. The instrumental/electronic portions of this song are incredible
Hush (Acoustic) is wonderful and light and I cannot hear it without thinking of the episode 4 credits which make me want to shake Athan (affectionate)
There is a cover of Chasing Cars (one of my favorite songs of all time) performed by the Fringes' very own @taytayheyhey (one of my favorite people) and it became my most played song of the year *so fast* Its a wonderful and almost haunting cover of one of the songs of all time
Last song! Waiting Room also breaks my heart open in my chest because Athan did lyrics too good. "If you were a waiting room, I'd never see a doctor I'd just sit there with my first aid kit and bleed" circles through my brain at all times and I'll never forgive Athan for it

In terms of shows I actually listened to this week, I listened to the new eps of @tellnotalespod , @woebegonepod , and @camlannpod which were all incredible as always

Miyazaki is doing what hes doing because in reality, he respects no one in the animation industry but himself and that is what will kill him one day.
And like thats his life, you go, but I genuenly dont think its out of anything other than his ego and the only victim is his own health. I will not mourn him when he dips, because this man is actively trying to die while working, (genuenly dont buy the retierment thing, I am seriously convinced he is disapointed that he survived the production of The boy and the heron) and while the quality and spirit of his work will always be the same, I need yall to understand that this is a jaded, self centered, pesimistic person that is choosing misery. (I dont care about weather he "enjoys" it or not. He could adore it or hate every second of it and it wouldnt matter to me, and honestly I find it unempathetic to think that its imposible for him or anyone to be stressed or unhappy doing their creative work just because its good. Its kind of how people went crazy when the Spy x Family author said hes not attached to his characters, thats a thing that can happen and crazy as it might seem to you. The idea that art, especially good art can only be created out of love is a myth.)
This is made out of no hatred for him, he is a genius, and compleatly within his right to be this way. And people thinking that they somehow cant like hes movies if they aknowledge how he is,is what leads people to deny it. This isnt about him being a "good person", he seems like a rather shitty dad but thats for Goro, Keisuke and Ota to decide, not us. And hes employees are yet to give any testament as to how good of a boss he is, (as far as I know) I doubt they ever will, so it dosent matter.
He is also most likely addicted to it at this point, weather its the stress or the creative process or both its clear that this is something he genuenly cant let go of.
He thinks the art of animation will die with him, and wants that death to be out of spite.
Hes wrong about that but godspeed muy guy. I envy your resolve.

Kiss and Make up (Yoru x fem! reader)
Word count: 610
Warnings: angst with comfort at the end, cursing, suggestive towards the end
Yoru was a stubborn man, maybe even you were more stubborn than him.
“Y/n, there’s no more time to defuse! Get out!” You hear Yoru com through your earpiece, taking cover from the bullets, pressing your earpiece “There’s time! I can defuse and complete the mission-” ” Don’t be fucking stupid, agh-!” “Yoru?!” On the other hand, Yoru was covering you whilst you defused the spike. There was a mirror Phoenix attempting to stop the defuse and shot Yoru’s arm. You were pissed and worried for him, in a panic you turned off your comms and summoned a shield to cover you. You continued defusing when a nano swarm fell in front of you and exploded; enduring the pain, you kept defusing. “Y/n? Y/n?!” Yoru frantically comms and gets no response, he just finished killing the mirror and ran back to the site. Upon arriving, he saw your shield covering you and a mirror Killjoy that was about to throw a swarm; he drew his gun and shot the Killjoy. The latter fell and chuckled softly “You are too late, she’s going to die from the first nano swarm and the spikes going to explode”
“ くそ.” Yoru gasps, briefly the spike stops beeping and your shield goes down; revealing your torn clothes and unconscious body. Running over to you he checks your pulse and sighs contently, glad that you are still with him. “We’re here, apologies for the late arrival we were held back by some distractions. What happened here?” Brimstone and Sage arrived late, the healer rushed over to you and tended to you. “Well done both of you, the rest of us will clean up and get samples and move out.”
Your body felt sore as you woke up to the herbal smell of Sage’s clinic, looking around you saw Yoru rushing to your side. “ You fucking idiot! What were you thinking?!! You- You could’ve died!” Instead of comforting words you heard harsh words, you scrunched your face. “I agree Yoru what I did was risky, but I did the mission, and I-” “So? This goddamn mission would mean nothing if you’re not here with me.” The rift walker cuts you off, your heart skips a beat when you hear those words. Your boyfriend storms off, leaving you alone in the room.
Thankfully Sage’s healing worked miracles on you, and you were out of the clinic in a day. You ran off looking for Yoru, asking about other on his whereabouts; when finally you found him at the rooftop gazing upon the view. “Yoru.. I…” You stumbled over your words, he turns around, looking at you with interest. “I know what I did was risky and your completely right, I’ve put myself in your shoes and understood your point of view and I’m sorry. I-” You stopped rambling when he hugged you, pulling away after a while. Placing his lips on yours, you pressed yourself against him to feel more close and more content. You part your lips allowing him to slip his tongue into your warm cavern, your hands found his silky black and blue hair. Tugging it softly to tell him you need to breathe, at your actions, he pulled away, and a string of saliva connected the both of you. “Just don’t do it again, yeah?”
