Okay I HOPE nobody gets mad at me for this but. I think that if Tallulah wasn't a dragon. I think she'd be a deer. Think about it, they both like flowers (granted deer eat them). Plus as being from the Midwest it obvious that deer are strong. They are strong asf we're talking about deer that crash cars & kill people. They are no joke, yet they are shown as majestic, beautiful, and attentive animals. They're known for their grace & agility. Which I think can represent Tallulah in a way. Also I thought of this because of the Zombie Virus that deer get & Tallulah's appearance being faked by the code lol.

New chapter is out!
The Metal Virus is discussed before Jewel starts handing out orders.
This chapter gave me a lot of trouble and I'm not super satisfied with how it came out. There is a special guest and some rougewel spice at the end.
Probably as spicy as my fics are going to get.

last night I had a dream in which my $2,000 gaming rig that took years to save for got infected by a virus known as snickers, which was in the form of a 3D game where you have this deer, snickers as a friend
little did you know that he’s actually destroying your computer and taunts you in Microsoft Sam (also the error box is wrong bc i did not want to risk getting my gaming rig actually infected, so i coded one myself)

Excerpt from this story from Grist:
In early May, a woman in her 90s was hospitalized in Connecticut with a strange assortment of symptoms: confusion, nausea, chest pain, chills, and fever. Two weeks later, on May 17, she died. The culprit was a blacklegged tick, a minuscule arachnid about the size of a sesame seed when fully grown.
Blacklegged ticks, commonly known as deer ticks, carry a wide range of illnesses. They’re best known for carrying Lyme disease, a sickness that causes a rash, fatigue, fever, and other unpleasant, sometimes debilitating, symptoms. The tick that killed the woman in Connecticut was carrying a disease that is far rarer and deadlier than Lyme: It’s called Powassan virus, or POWV. Blacklegged ticks carrying Powassan kill one in 10 of the people who develop severe symptoms. Half of those who survive a serious bout of the illness continue to experience the effects of the disease, such as loss of muscle mass and recurring headaches, for the rest of their lives.
The fatality in Connecticut is the second Powassan-related death in the United States this year. In April, someone in Maine died in the hospital after contracting the illness from a tick bite. Two deaths in the span of a couple of months may not sound like a lot, but they represent what looks like a significant rise in the disease that’s concerning experts. The 134 cases documented in the U.S. between 2016 and 2020 represent a number 300 percent higher than in the previous five-year period. And the cases that are reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, are most likely the symptomatic cases, typically the ones that land people in hospitals.
Experts expect cases of Powassan virus, and other diseases that people contract from carriers in the natural environment, to continue to rise as the climate continues to change due to greenhouse gas emissions. Warming temperatures are helping ticks shift their ranges into new areas, and warmer winters are helping the bloodsuckers survive from one year to the next. Most Powassan cases have been diagnosed in the Great Lakes region and the Northeast, but cases have also cropped up in states as far flung as North Dakota and North Carolina.

Because I'm a sucker for seeing Vox lose it over RadioApple, and also them dancing, maybe a thing where RadioAaple both a little tipsy, dance in Lucifer's room late at night. Vox sees them on his drone and freaks because 1) Alastor is letting himself be unguarded with a person 2) Alastor is dancing and 3) Alastor has, in fact, made nice with the King like Vox was afraid of. Very nice by the looks of it.
“Do you ever think you may have a problem?”
That was Velvette, who was using her best “let’s not piss off the crazy man” voice.
“No.”
“Not even a little one?”
“No.”
Valentino and Velvette exchanged telling looks, which Vox promptly ignored. He had more important things to worry about, like keeping this stupid drone in the air. Maneuvering the machine itself was easy, but getting around the electromagnetic force field Alastor had set up around the hotel’s perimeter was a whole lot trickier. Vox had been flying in circles for hours, trying to find a weak spot in Alastor’s defenses.
(He knew it’d been hours because Velvette had started shooting worried glances at him around hour two, Valentino had showed up around hour five, and they’d started a game of rock-paper-scissors to figure out who was going to do a wellness check on him around hour six.)
“Ah-ha!” Vox screamed, jabbing both fists in the air when the force field flexed and glitched, creating a half second window of opportunity. He urged the drone forward, barely zipping past before the shield re-formed. “Boo-yah! Who’s your daddy?”
Valentino smirked and took in a long drag of his pipe. “Vox, baby, not outside the bedroom.”
Vox’s metal heart – the same one he always denied having – started beating faster as the camera zoomed closer and closer to the hotel. He zipped to Alastor’s radio tower first, then his room, frowning slightly when all he found was a half-eaten deer, a cooling cup of coffee, and a discarded coat.
From behind him, Velvette clapped her hands with an annoyed huff of relief. “Oh, well, looks like the asshole is out. Too bad, so sad. Can we please get back to something actually fucking important?”
But Vox shook his head. “That doesn’t make sense. It’s 11 o’clock. Alastor usually finishes his business before seven so he can have dinner at eight, or else he gets too hungry to do–” He trailed off when he saw the look on both their faces. They were both staring at him as if he was a terminal patient, come down with an incurable case of Alastor-itis.
He sighed and re-focused on the screen. “It just doesn’t make sense, okay?”
The library. The lobby. The kitchen. Alastor was nowhere to be found.
Then Vox had a horrible thought. He remembered the rumors flying around town, the wild laughs of excitement and the curses emanating from the hotel recently. He remembered Alastor’s most recent broadcast (“Folks, when living with an annoying roommate, always remember to assert your dominance wherever possible”). And most of all, he remembered Alastor’s smug face as he strolled down the street, humming merrily to himself as he twirled an unfamiliar white top hat on his staff.
He remembered the strange apple that had appeared on the top right of the hotel, just down the hall from Alastor.
His heart in his throat, he slowly moved the drone higher, then higher still. Don’t be there, don’t be there, don’t be there –
Velvette and Vox went quiet at the scene that appeared on the screen. Alastor was there all right, but he wasn’t alone. As if he’d suddenly downloaded a virus, Vox could only process what he was seeing in chunks.
He saw the record player first, oddly enough. An old-timey song was playing, static crackling and popping as a low sweet croon, somehow both deep and high, filled the room. 25%.
The room was dark, but a few candles and duck-shaped lamps were gleamed with a heavenly light, washing the pair slowly revolving in the center of the room in a seductive golden glow. 50%.
The king of hell was there. The expression on his face was…tender. His head was tucked into Alastor’s narrow chest, one hand on Alastor’s shoulder and the other clasped in Alastor’s hand. His eyes were sparkling, almost overfilled with a nameless emotion that Vox knew all too well. Alastor’s hand was curled around his waist protectively (possessively). 75%.
And finally, Vox saw Alastor. Really saw him, as if for the first time, because this wasn’t his Alastor. His Alastor was always one step ahead, always untouchable, cold, cruel, and capable of truly unspeakable acts of violence with an effortless charm that made his blood boil with envy and need at the same time.
But the Alastor in front of him…his coat was off. For the first time in fifty years, Vox saw Alastor’s bare skin, his shirt rolled up to his elbows as he allowed another living soul to see him undressed. Unguarded. His eyes, always so alert and aware, were closed.
Worst of all was his smile. It looked soft. Gentle – or whatever passed for gentle with Alastor. As Vox watched, Lucifer’s lips moved. The words were too soft for the drone to pick up, but whatever it was, Alastor laughed. Not in a mocking or teasing way, but an actual, genuine laugh, as if Alastor was a real boy with a real heart.
100%.
Suddenly, Alastor’s eyes flew open, and he stared at Vox through the screen. The wicked smirk that curled his lips was the last thing the drone ever saw as it glitched, red shaking and warping the feed until it went completely dead, and the three of them were left staring at a black screen.
Silence reigned. Then – “Well, I’ll be. Looks like the deer found himself a doe.”
Velvette shot Valentino a warning look, then took a hesitant step forward. “Vox – “ Velvette started, but Vox started cackling. Wild, out of control, utterly insane laughs ripped from his wires as his monitor-face went haywire.
“I am going to kill that motherfucker!”

Alastor rarely sleeps. That's a confirmed canon fact from the live streams. It's not that he doesn't need it. He may not need as much of it, but he does need it, but I like to think it's because he can't bring himself to sleep. Or rather, he wasn't bring himself to let his guard down because he's literally in Hell and as an Overlord he has to have his guard up 24/7 for anyone who would be looking to try to take advantage of any weakness or vulnerability and usurp him. He only sleeps a few hours at a time, power naps really, and only in the safety of his Radio Tower, his own bedroom, or with Rosie because she's one of the few he can truly relax around.
That goes out the window when he gets almost cleaved in half by Adam. Angelic wounds, especially those made of pure angelic energy like the axe-sword Adam had used, are tricky. It's like a poison or a virus, it won't heal on its own and will spread throughout his system. Alastor needs all the rest he can get to recover, and we know his stubborn ass won't accept help until he literally collapses.
Which means the Hotel is going to have their most important trust exercise ever: Helping a stubborn old deer to heal while also protecting the Hotel in his stead and, moat importantly, NOT letting his enemies know he and the Hotel by proxy are vulnerable. In turn, Alastor ends up inadvertently falling asleep around the others more often, especially Lucifer since we all know he had to be the one to purge the wound of angelic power before it could heal. He's subconsciously beginning to trust them after they helped and protected him when he was weakened, and he hates it.

I just saw your vampus virus ask. How does it affect unicorns' magic? Since magic is channel through the horns/antlers, won't the fang shape make it dangerous to cast magic?
#Vampire virus tag
Tumblr media
Quick refresher on unicorns! They are a species of deer with two antlers that twist around each other in a spiral. They shed their horn every year during puberty, and then they shed again for significant milestones during adulthood.
Starlight Glimmer's horn is mutated and always grows back the same way, while Tempest Shadow's antler bud is permanently injured and cannot form a functional horn no matter how much she tries.
Tumblr media
The Vamprus virus changes healthy horns into a strange, fanglike shape. They cannot use magic in the same way, but have a new power. These untwisted antlers act as dousing rods for the user, allowing them to detect magic in the environment that would be indistinguishable to the common unicorn.
Vamrus-infected unicorns often seek out magic to quench their thirst. Flam here uses it to find exploitable new items to sell as the next big thing, or to promise gullible ponies that his curative tonic has magic in its ingredients when it's just apple juice and beet leaves.

I wanted to explain the Jackalope design for my wooden pins (which are in pre-order here)
it’s a bit disturbing, so I’ll put it under a readmore:
it’s theorized that the origin for the jackalope myth was rabbits infected with the Shope papilloma virus, as it can cause antler-like growths on the head.
Tumblr media
the warty quality of these growths actually matches how the antlers are depicted in some engravings, such as this Jackalope from the Tableau Encyclopedique et Methodique
Tumblr media
but I didn’t want to just draw a sick rabbit. I wanted to incorporate more deer-like traits, so I thought about trophy farm bucks, who through selective breeding are made to have antlers that are similarly knobbly and chaotic
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and that’s how I got to my final jackalope design: by referencing both the papilloma virus and dubiously ethical farm-bred stags. it is a cryptid animal, so I liked the idea of making it look a little unsettling!

Oh right I forgot Breadsticks is a literal dinosaur.
Today I went to see Breadsticks and couldn't find them. As I started walking around I then heard the noise they usually make that could represent "hello, I'm friendly, etc" I saw them within a few feet of me feasting upon a dead seagull I was told had been there for a day or two. Breadsticks is very comfortable around me so I was able to get really close to get some shots.
However I was reminded that crows are carrion feeders. If you feed them out of your hand you are at risk of getting a potential disease/virus. Anything they eat could potentially have a trace amount left on you, and you could end up ingesting it and becoming infected. We did make contact not longer after this photo but through a layer of clothing (they will land on my arm now.) After realizing the whole situation I washed my hands and arms, then again when I got home. I hopefully will be fine but who knows if any trace amounts of that dead gull ended up on me.
If you are fortunate enough as I have been to gain a crowbro's trust and feed them out of your hand, remember that you are risking catching a disease/virus. Plus today I learned that crows could be potential carriers of a prions disease that deer carry (which has yet to make the jump to humans.) So best to wear a glove that you can easily take off and disinfect later.

Oh I also have an interesting idea for Alastor. It might sound ‘uncomfortable’ for some fans, but I find it to be a fascinating idea.
So there’s a thing that’s called ‘Chronic Wasting Disease’, and it effects deer, elk, and moose. It comes from the protein prion, and it’s very common in foods that deer/elk/moose eat. It effects the animals brains, such as drooling, stumbling, lack of coordination/energy, ears/head falling and drooping, frequently thirst, incredibly skinny(wasting), and shaggy fur.
Soo since Alastor’s a deer demon, I thought, why not make a mutated sort of disease in hell that can affect deer/elk/moose sinners??
It would be a cool twist to see the high and mighty Alastor becoming sick with a virus that infects demons like him, and is incurable
That would be pants-shittingly terrifying. Prison diseases are the stuff of nightmares.
