do you have any favourite Palestinian dishes?
MAKLOUBA BAYBEEEEEEE. It's called "upside down" because part of the preparation is you flip the rice pot upside down so that the meat, which is at the bottom, ends up on top. Usually you flip it by taking a platter, putting it on top of the pot, and then flipping the platter and pot on your head.
Then there's also m'sakhin, which chicken on top of bread with specialty spices and broth.
If other Palestinians wanna share their favorite foods also teehee.

Ayat
She has a few surgery scars from childhood. She's chronically ill and had been in and out of the hospital every few years as a child. She's also got a facial scar around her temple that is partially covered by her hijab usually from getting in fights when she was in her early twenties. She got her ears pierced as a kid, but doesn't wear earrings. And she has no tattoos.
9. What is their relationship with their mother like?
Anya
They're on friendly terms! Though the relationship is not quite "mother/daughter", rather it's like two work friends who talk shit about their coworkers.
18. Do they prefer savoury/ sweet/ spicy?
Areen
She prefers savoury foods! Her grandmother has taught her so many Palestinian recopies. Her favorite is eggplant maklouba. ~
24. Do they have any keepsakes from their father?
Nayzak
She does not, in fact, have any keepsakes from Rook. After Rook died, she was sent to live with her aunt with the clothes on her back really.

#1: For the Man Who Had the Smallest Dream– Tareq S. Hajjaj
You told me of such a small dream,
a dream destroyed by those who hold a white flag to the world
as their hands drip red.
You dreamt of a small house–
was it by the sea,
the cerulean waves calmly rolling as you gazed from the window?
You dreamt of your children’s laughter–
Was it sweet as a serene song,
Weaving past you from wall to wall?
You dreamt of your wife’s cooking–
Was it the smell of maklouba,
The uplifting aroma of a dish flipped upside down?
Now you see the colossal residents crashing.
Now you hear the disconcerted cries of your children in between bombs.
Now you smell gas and decay in a city turned upside down
in an unending agonizing nightmare.
The rest of the world sleeps
But some of us still watch you,
Wide awake.

Enough to Share [Farah]
"I actually made a ton for my sister," Farah said, sliding the container of Middle Eastern food over. "She's not really the best cook, but she's trying. Anyway, I had a lot left over, so I thought maybe you'd want some?" The container was stuffed to the brim with maklouba--a rice, lamb, eggplant, and cauliflower fish she'd eaten growing up.
