no but it's really nice, it's really funny, it's really nice how you read fic and you see which traits are preserved for which character across this AU, that setting, this time period, that profession, why this style, why that instrument. especially walking into a fandom, especially reading one of those fics where the author confesses they've never even read the source material, they've just seen so much fanon that they get what they're doing.

wei wuxian's laughter is coded into his character. this is a boy that laughs like the sun and smiles like it too

lwj is a Massive Bitch when he wants to be, and has a slow, small, impossibly soft happiness that is oh so gentle yet strong like a mountain.

jiang cheng is Very Complicated when it comes to fanon interpretations. canon does not do his character portrayal many favours, but I do love seeing his character being a better person - they preserve his gruff affection and his complex feelings, when they focus on him. his fear, his parenting. his grief and love.

aang - aang gets to be this bright child, this shining star and wise man. he's bouncy, he's peaceful, he's devoted, he's merciful, he loves life.

katara - fierce, loving. motherly often in her affections, and on the other edge angry about the suffocation sometimes present in her narrative. competent and open.

azula - do I have words? I love how there are these traits preserved across diff works depending on how they use her character - at times darkly threatening, others bemusingly terrifying.

the way that as music majors wwx always (usually) plays the flute. sometimes the guitar. LWJ usually gets either his canon guqin, else a piano or a violin, ostensibly because the canon element of prestigious-family-instrument-code is being preserved, whereas wwx gets the people's-music-code applied. like in the pop-culture sense, yeah

sizhui the kind, sweet child. Jingyi the Gremlin. Zizhen the sensible but sometimes overdramatic romantic. Jin Ling the bratty, bold, vulnerable teenager.

Submission 1: I haven't finished reading this book yet but Qiu Congxue is just the funniest character to me. her immediate suggestion to any problem is horrific, traumatizing violence and is confused by how this might be inappropriate or undesirable for some people. ultimate problem causer without realizing she might be causing problems. a genius to herself and no one else. she let her body be eaten by hungry ghosts for her cultivation. head intact, body skeletal and she likes it that way. when asked what she should do to interfere with the enemy while undercover in their territory, her sect leader and our protagonist Wenren E replied that her mere presence is enough interference in itself. my stupid queen <3

Submission: She is everything! She doesn't get enough screen time in the novel, but that proves just how amazing she is to make such an impression in spite of it. #poorly drawn mdzs #mdzs #wen qing #wen ning #jiang cheng #wei wuxian #In the audio drama she quite literally opens the door and then leaves after seeing them without breaking conversation.#It is both so impressive and deeply funny to me.#I imagine her just literally pivoting in one foot and walking right out.#She came home after a long day at work and in 0.5 seconds went “I would rather go back to the office than deal with this right now”.#Besides tickling me to near tears - this scene is also a great introduction to Wen Qing - her first instinct is to protect!#She lives by the code of 'I don't care who you are - if you need help I will lend it.' a true doctor and professional.#Sure she is *mad* that Wen Ning puts himself (and her to a lesser extent) at risk by helping 'the enemy' but she gives in quick.#I love Wen Qing a lot - she is such an unsung hero in this story.#Sorry that her first appearance on this blog was...what it was. I'll let your curiosity take you down that path...

I’m so curious if during Wei Wuxian’s Yiling Patriarch era the people of Yiling could recognize him.

We know he went into town and was treated pretty normally. It could be that people didn’t know who he was, or they knew did and didn’t care, either of which would be incredibly funny:

doubly hilarious if this is an AU where jgy has already begun to try and use Music Makes You Lose Control - nmj has to go to his sworn brothers and explain that his doctor thinks bottoming might fix him better than music, and whilst lxc is smiling politely and doing worldslongestyeahboi.mp4 in his head, jgy is sitting there frantically trying to figure out how he could poison nmj with his dick instead.

I enjoy that he is very flawed and volatile.#This episode of the audio drama has a lot of great breakdown scenes featuring JC - and they all deserve a feature.#But underlying this comic is a small meta comment of 'ah man I have too many comics of JC just wailing sadly'#My goal is to draw 6-8 comics per episode - I sometimes have to truncate and cut good scenes out.#Especially when a large majority is just different flavours of trauma and toxic relationships to your self-worth.#I would also like to make a note here that just because you lose the ability to do something that is very tied to your core identity-#-does not mean your life is over. It will feel like the end of the world. It will send you into a spiral of grief. It will hurt so badly.#Sometimes we do not realize how tied up our identities can be in certain things until we are cut loose.#You don't lose yourself. I promise the pain will fade in time. I promise you will find other things to tether you. I promise you will be ok #Life moves forwards. Time moves forwards. You move forwards.#Ego death just means an opportunity for ego rebirth.
