as someone who is so extremely normal about the rat grinders, i can't stop listening to Strangers by Ethel Cain and thinking about them. it's not a perfect 1:1, but so many of the lyrics relate so poetically:

"I tried to be good/Am I no good?" - could apply to any of them, really, but is most on point for Ruben and Kipperlilly. Ruben, who was so secretly envious of his friend Lucy for having the guts to do what he couldn't and sticking to her guns, hating himself because of it. Kipperlilly, who wanted so badly to be special, to be the hero, to be the best, that she let it consume her into doing terrible things.

porter has always hated gorgug because their definitions/uses of rages are fundamentally different. gorgug clashes so hard because his rage DOES come from a place of protection and defensiveness (and justice...) and that threatens the foundations of porters beliefs with ankarna
