Well seeing as you seem to always have impeccable taste and suggestions whilst also introducing me to things I've literally never heard of, would you like to give me a little rundown on The Bear? I've never heard of it but I'm intrigued.

It's about a guy, Carmen Berzatto, who is a world-class chef who moves home to Chicago to run his family's sandwich shop, The Beef, after his brother Mikey left it to him in his will when he died by suicide. The restaurant is not in great shape, and the staff are varying degrees of indifferent to hostile towards him and his efforts to get the shop in better shape.

Carmen himself is not in great shape, either, not really dealing with the death of his brother and all tied up in knots from years of working for abusive, abrasive chefs in extremely high-pressure kitchens. He hires another chef to work at The Beef who's his equal in skill and knowledge if not experience, Sydney, who's also a Chicago local. Sydney has had not-great experiences working in prestigious restaurants and wants to work in a different kind of place that's less abusive and competitive, more cooperative and supportive.

Carmy asks Sydney to help him remake The Beef's kitchen into one more along the lines of a traditional French kitchen. She doesn't think that kind of hierarchical structure is a great idea, but she admires Carmy's accomplishments and skills and agrees against her better judgment. She struggles to earn the respect of the rest of the staff while also staggering under the weight of the responsibilities heaped (perhaps unfairly) on her.

Carmen's cousin Richie, a foulmouthed asshole who was his big brother's best friend, has worked at The Beef forever, and he's not gonna make anything easier, insisting that the way they did things when Mikey was alive worked just fine. There's a whole restaurant staff who are fantastic (some have bigger roles than others, but they're all individuals and contribute to the story), and Carmen's sister who worries incessantly about him even as she's pissed off at him, and Carmen's affectionate but no-bullshit uncle who is maybe in the mob?? who Mikey borrowed hundreds of thousands of dollars from before he died, and and of course Carmen is now on the hook for that loan.

That all makes it sound much more sprawling than it is, when it's actually a fairly focused show about one workplace that just has a lot of stuff happening at the edges of the story. It's a chaotic, intense, stressful, amazing show about people who have dreams and do a thing they love and want to just get a little better every day and are doing their best while constantly also dealing with the shit that life throws at you. I had to watch it one episode at a time with a break of a day or two between episodes to process it, and I can't stop thinking about how GOOD the series was and I'm probably gonna rewatch it soon.

As my friend @lovebeyondmeasure said, "[The Bear is] not trying to be shocking or prestige or expensive. It's trying to tell a complex, layered story with nuance and care for its characters."

Hey! I don't like to send these kinda messages but I've noticed you have an unfortunately large contingent of TERFs following you and wonder if you could give perhaps a concise and clear response to any TERFs who are interacting with your blog? Cheers

okay tbh i never look at who follows me so it absolutely like blows me away when, on occasion, TERFs make an appearance and i have NO idea why theyre still following me because i am very openly a trans guy and therefore break like, every convention they have about gender to begin with. i can’t go through and block every TERF because this blog has upwards of 40k followers and that’s quite literally impossible for me to do, but if you come into my inbox going hog wild i will block and i have always blocked.

now for the TERFs reading this i know thats a lot to take in but PLEASE understand that, all the transphobia and bigotry and general Awfulness(tm) of TERFs aside, if you aren’t willing to even consider the fine nuances of biology as we currently understand and do not understand it, then WHY are you following a bio blog in the first place lmao. Hey! Do you have any tips about getting enamel pins made? I'm in the UK and I want to start getting pins to sell at conventions (don't worry, very different to what you make!) but I have absolutely no idea how to go about it or what kinda investment I have to put down for it.

There’s a lot of info about setting up your designs and the process but here’s some stuff to add.

Looking for a Factory:I have a contact in China that I work with who finds factories for me cause I get product labels and other custom items done through him so I can’t recommend any specific factories. But the way to find yourself a pin maker is to look through Alibaba. Lots of factories list on there, so contact a few of them, ask questions, and get quotes.

- Make sure they can do the type of pin you want since some don’t do specialty pins like glitter, rainbow metal, screen printing, etc. - Make sure they’re willing to send you a sample to check their quality before you do the entire order through them. Once you have a factory you like you might decide that the sample is unnecessary with future orders and just go with photos to check quality.- Double check extra costs like mold fees and shipping. Some factories might wrap those costs into the pin price they quote you or some charge it extra.

Pricing:I’ve done a pretty wide range of pins and there’s a lot of factors that will affect the price of them.- Size: bigger pins will obviously be a big more expensive- Number of colours: the more enamel colours you have in your design the more expensive it will be. - Complexity: If you have a complicated design with a lot of small spaces that will increase the price- Specialty: screen printing, glitter enamel, and other things can sometimes make them more expensive.- Cut Outs: If your design has small areas where the metal has a hole it’s considered a cut out and increases price.That’s the main stuff I can think of.

Most factories require a minimum of 100pcs per design. You can do different colour schemes within that 100 though.

From my experience when ordering 100pcs of a new pin design they end up averaging $2USD each including shipping and mold fee. So that’s somewhere to start for the investment they need.

Another random thing I recommend is getting your logo or name stamped in the back of your pin. It helps customers remember where they bought it and can prevent shady factories from selling pirated versions of your pin because the mold will have your logo as part of it.

I think they did a really good job w pikachu but the white eyes I think are what really throws it, especially on things like Psyduck.

Yeah, eyes are a really tricky one. A lot of Pokemon have HUGE eyes for their size, and it looks cute in a simplified cartoony style, but kinda freaky on a realistic animal.

I’m also a little upset at Mr. Mime’s “horns,” which I always thought were supposed to be hair. Like anime hair, stuck up in a weird shape.
