I generally don't mind clones adopting parts of Mando culture. The spicy food thing though... bro the budgeting people on Kamino were NOT signing off on tons of Mandalorian ingredients for a millions-strong army of ultra-hungry speed-growing boys. Those men were raised on ration bars and nutrient slop and meals seasoned with nothing but atmosphere. They wouldn't make it past round two on Hot Ones. (Also maybe stay away from foods that can temporarily fuck up your digestive tract if you're a soldier lol)
Let's have some clone culture that isn't a carbon copy of whatever that vanishingly small bunch of Mandalorian trainers might have practiced on Kamino. I like to think that the clones are excellent at making mild dishes out of whatever can be hunted or foraged in the wild, heavy on herbs and ingredients they pickled or dried themselves. They love convenience!! They make jerky out of anything and whatever cannot be jerkyfied just goes in a jar. Everything can become a preserve snack if you're creative. And let there be different types of clone cuisine depending on where they're stationed and what local foods they can take inspiration from!! So many cool possibilities!!

au where during the clone wars there's a republic photographer. i can't draw but here are some of my ideas!
• jedi laughing with their clones, they look incredibly young when happy
• clone sleeping on a jedi's shoulder, sharing a cloak as a blanket, another clone sleeps in their lap
• jedi standing protectively over a fallen clone, teeth bared like a predator, a dangerous look in their eyes
• young clones painting their armor
• jedi comforting a grieving clone, a silent tear rolls down their own face
• clones teaching jedi how to shoot, exchanging excited high fives when a target is hit
• clone holding a lightsaber in a dramatic pose, jedi looks amused, vode looks scared
• clones feeding their rations to animals, childlike smiles on their faces
• jedi leading a meditation or yoga class
• clones first snow ball fight
• clones playing hair salon, giving each other trims and dye jobs
• clones giving each other's tattoos and piercings
• clone protectively holding a civvie child (the caption: two children of war)
• clone desperately clinging to their fallen brother's blacks, it still smells like them
• batch mates in full armor discretely holding hands, it's their first battle and they're scared
• clone in a flower field, petals in their curls
• clones sleeping around their injured vod in the medbay
• kedable kisses (forehead presses)
• clones on leave volunteering at the jedi temple, playing with younglings and teaching classes
• jedi younglings painting their robes and skin to match their favorite vode
• a clone with a small smile, looking proud and emotional, the caption explains he just named himself
• clones trying sweets for the first time
• clone trying to imitate something cool their jedi did and face planting, vode laughing hysterically in the background
• jedi carrying an injured clone (caption: irreplaceable)

Thinking about fanon tropes I am now intrigued by the concept of a culture clash between clones and jedi about medical ethics and bedside manner.. I doubt the jedi would go in for the kind of medical abuse bullying that’s so popular in fanon medics, (yes i have beef with this), as i feel like having respect for patient privacy and autonomy is the kind of tradition they might have, just a th0ught, but certainly that doesn’t sound like something the clones would have experienced on Kamino growing up. ..now, i think there is more than one way this could affect the clone medics- do they replicate that with their own patients, are they covertly helping their bros to hide medical issues that could have consequences- it’s a fun thing to think about, considering that at a baseline they are taught that their bodies and the bodies of their patients are weapons of the state and their job is to maintain the ‘equipment’, with all that entails, but then there is clone solidarity, the potential to protect each other from the kaminoans and trainers- and then of course the push for individualism, the things that they are learning out in the field- but that doesn’t mean they would encounter revolutionary ideas like patient consent or whatever, so what would a shift like that look like in practice-
But to bring it back, that culture clash concept, it might not even happen, or barely, simply because the idea that ‘medics outrank everyone’ would be an actual thing in the GAR is, er, lol, and there is no way, as far as I’m concerned, that a clone medic would go ahead and medically bully a jedi general even if they were in the habit of doing so to their fellow clones. Well, probably. On the other hand, lol. How about this: clone medic, trying to be helpful, goes out of his way to hide his jedi’s injuries, because what if gets demoted? What if they cut him up for parts? (okay that’s maybe hyperbolic) Sir upon my honor in this medbay we NEVER report potential disabilities. Here’s something for the pain and a brace you can hide under your clothes.

So, I've got a new idea for an au... not an original idea by any means, but I just have been thinking about it for awhile now lol
Basically, Luke gets raised by Rex.
At some point, very shortly after Luke is born and Obi-Wan's like shit, I have to get this kid to Tatooine, said Master Jedi gets injured on the way there. Rex is the one that finds him, luckily, and discovers everything that happened (except for Anakin's fall lol). He decides to help Obi-Wan take Luke to the Lars, but when they get there, the Lars are long gone.
At this point, Obi-Wan is too self-loathing and guilty, so he asks if Rex will raise Luke. This starts an argument about who would be better off raising Luke, but eventually Rex gets Luke.
(Obviously, once Rex and Cody are reunited, Rex sicks Cody on Obi-Wan to "get him to come to his senses")
So begins my "semi-writing" spree, where I wrote out just a bunch of little scenes from his AU.
For more from this AU: NEXT
Here is one, beneath the cut:
Luke’s hair grazed his palm, a soft and a slippery stubble that tickled the pads of his fingers. Even his fingers glided over the baby’s skin, cupping the small warmth behind his head and holding him up in his protective fabrics.
Each moment, experiencing the weight in his arms and the soft breaths sniffled into the air, carved themselves into his memories.
The back of Rex’s mind shot to the long corridors deep within the Kamino Facilities, to the rooms that vode had never been allowed to venture into. The rooms had been full of clones too young to be cadets, yet too old to be in their growth chambers. They had been taken care of droids and a very select personnel, Kaminoiian officials that had watched for any defects or ailments.
Despite having never stepped foot in those rooms, Rex could figure that they were like any other space in the Facility. They were likely as in-organic and harsh walled as other rooms, with white bright enough to blind and dull enough to bore, and the temperature set to a disparaging chill. All of it had been built to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of their product, but at the least amount of cost possible.
Rex hated Kamino.
He would do everything to ensure Luke never experienced such a nightmare.
Then blue eyes slid open and blinked up at him, accompanied by a growing smile and hands squirming in their blanketed confines. Warmth flooded Rex’s heart and he held Luke up, ducking his head to hover his face closer.
“Su cuygar, kar’ika,” Rex whispered.
Luke smiled again and broke his prison, raising a hand to press against Rex’s nose.

clones have no concept of gender
they are all biologically male, but they were originally created to be nothing more than disposable soldiers, property, they were not looked at as people, not a soul bothered to treat them as such
so the only people they could ever learn any concept of gender from is Jango himself, the trainers, and eventually Shaak Ti and the other jedi
(I'm not even listing the kaminoans cause I think they don't really have any strict genders either plus they are the og "clones are not people" believers)
but I don't think any of the first two ever bothered, and the jedi probably encouraged them to pick whatever the hell they like
some of them feel complete with being perceived as a male, some were just called 'he' and rolled with it even if they don't have any strong connection to the pronouns, some prefer female pronouns, some prefer all, none etc. they just- they don't have any initial concept of gender so they don't have any qualms about which one they identify as, if they even identify as one
they call each other brothers as a collective term, but it's not anything gendered, in fact I think they called themselves vode first and once they were deployed they started also using one of the translations of it to basic (maybe because they are biological males, maybe not) since the mandoa word is completely unisex and is used as brother and sister too

and it’s not fair. it’s not fair he was shot down in cold blood of course but it’s even more unfair that he didn’t get to die as himself.
His armor free of the blue and grey paint cleanshaven and bald the only indicator of who he was in a small tattoo on his temple. He spent his whole life sharing his face his voice his life with millions of others and he fought and literally killed for the right to be different. To be himself but they took even that away from him and he died as just another one amongst millions.

I enjoy this fandom's overwhelmingly wholesome portrayal of the clones as individuals and as a community but ngl their upbringing on Kamino would foster a ton of toxic attitudes that I'd like to hear more people's takes on.
I think esp where mental health and performance issues are concerned the vibes would be RANCID. Again I love wholesome clones, and I'm not saying there wouldn't be any of those, but the Kamino cloning facilities are exactly the sort of environment that produces ppl who say shit like "everyone is doing this, why can't you?" or "just be normal" or "stop being depressed". Imo this kind of thinking would have a big impact on aspects of clone culture and community (since there's no such thing as a community without problems like that).
Imagine literally having the same DNA as everyone else but you're failing at something that millions of people with your exact "hardware" have perfected before. Both your creators and your own brothers just place all those "default" expectations on you. And how does that translate to the battlefield? You simply cannot show weakness bc at home, that would make you an inferior product, and on the job it would jeopardize your mission and everyone around you. You'd be stuck in an endless cycle of "man up and get your shit together" and more exploration of that would be fascinating I think.
Overall I'm advocating for more clones that kind of just turn out to be bad people bc it's not like goodness is coded into their genes. It's not like they were raised to be sweet and goofy, but a bunch of them just choose to become sweet and goofy people despite everything. Food for thought

I don't know if anyone is going to see this, but I'm currently working on a Cody-Centric Fic which is probably going to be put in several parts. I have so many ideas.
If anyone is interested, it's going to be divided into three parts. One on Kamino, one on the War and one on the aftermath. It will not really be a fix-it and really clone centric.
The first part focuses on Cody's relationship with Jango, his batch mates (Fox, Wolffe, Bly, Ponds - heavy on the Fox) and later Rex. But you will notice that Cody is my favourite.
The second part includes Codywan. Sorry not sorry. It's going to be on the lighter side, with I hope lots of funny moments, but it still takes place during a war and Cody will deal with a lot of heartbreaking loss.
I'm not sure about the last part yet, but order 66 happens. It's probably going to be about imperial cody and how he learns to deal with the aftermath of what he's done and how he'll get out of the empire. I plan on including the way Darth Vader deals with clones as a sith and definietly a clone rebellion.
The point of this post is that it's still in the making process. I'm creating a time-line with events right now and have several mindmaps of relationship dynamics and how I'll portray them and just wanted to put the offer out to send me all ideas you've always wanted to see in a fanfic, but know you won't make it yourself. I'm open for shit posts and heavier ones. Your own ideas or some vague feelings. It doesn't matter.
This fic is already going to be written mainly for myself and is very self-indulgent and I thought, why not include everyone who never get's to writing their own fics.
So, yeah.
