If you had to direct a Scooby Doo movie (or series), what would it be like and what would you include? Which series/era would you take the most inspiration from? Would the mystery/locale be inspired by real events/locations or something totally different?

For both a show and movie I'd take the most inspiration from the renaissance era movies! I'd probably be a bit more mature in audience since i think there's a lot of fun horror potential w Scooby doo, while also keeping the goofier aspects. Also hopefully take inspiration from the renaissance era art too, cause it's seriously so good i wanna eat it.

For a movie specifically I'd have it focus on Mothman! I think that would be really fun and atmospheric! I'm honestly surprised Mothman HASN'T been used yet, cryptids work so well for sd (like ik they technicallyyyy did chupacabra, but it's not like either predominant descriptions of chupacabra, so i don't count it)

Not entirely sure of the plot, but definitely a fun spooky woodsy vibe.

For a series, I've actually thought about it a bit before. I'd have monsters be real, and a well known thing. Common enough to realistically have someone pretend to be one to scare ppl off, but uncommon enough not everyone would be able to spot signs of a fake.

I'd have the gang go around researching monsters, or at least taking an intrest in them, and recording any findings. Some episodes would have people in costumes where the gang is able to recognize fakes based on their monster knowledge, real monsters that they have to deal with in some way, or sometimes monsters they think are fake, but are actually just new or rare ones. Maybe a variation on a common one.

I'd really like at least one scooby snack factory episode, cause I'm a sucker for those, but also to add a personal hc/au of mine. I like to think Scooby is a family name on his mom's side, and that that side of the family founded the scooby snsck company. That episode would be helping out Scoob's mom! There'd also be a moment where the gang is like "wait, does this mean Scooby and his mom have the same name??" And his mom would reveal that his original name was Spooky Doo (ignoring that one comic character, or maybe having Scoob named after him lol), but he changed his name to Scoobert Doo after the Scooby snacks founder. Party cause it suited him better, partly cause he thought the name "Spooky" would jinx him and he'd end up in scary situations lmao.

This fits less, but I'd also like to squeeze in my Scrappy headcanon of him being half alien, and being a magnet to the supernatural. Little revival for him, as a treat. He wouldn't be a main character, but would appear for a few episodes. Always episodes that have real monsters hkvkcjc

I'd also like to squeeze in poly mystery gang if possible, but if not, probably just not feature any romance in the series. It's just never my thing when it comes to sd media tbh. Definitely lots of slice of life moments regardless tho. I'd like to emphasize their familiarity and closeness y'know?

Luckily, Gisele was away filming when she got home, so Amelia had time to work out what to do hopefully before her mum came asking about her acceptances. By the time Gisele returned, Amelia has already secured herself a place at their first choice academy. She scammed her way in and now she continues to play out this false relationship while keeping up her usual sleeping around shenanigans.

Amelia suffers with an on/off alcohol addiction and has made multiple trips to rehab. She’s constantly fighting for her sobriety but constantly slips up 

Currently in a fake relationship with the son of the Dean of Diamond Bridge, something she got into in order to secure her a place at her academy of choice. She of course has affairs but has to keep them quiet and out of public gossip to make sure the world is convinced she’s in love.

Clara - best friends but definitely in a laid back sense. They're essentially a mini version of gigi and Disney. They're the kind of friends who aren't in each others pockets but since going to different universities, whenever amelia is back in town, her priority is to see Clara and catch up. She'll be the first person she tells if she's coming back to town, and if she shows up unannounced, Clara would drop any plans or anyone to see her.

Aurora - I don’t think this was ever discussed but I’m counting it because amelia likes her lol which is basically it. I think they’d hooked up before or at least have flirted a lot but amelia has definitely developed a crush on her

Addy - Rivals in a way but mainly from amelia’s side. addy doesn’t really pit them against each other but the academy, the fans and insider always do which only plays on addy’s insecurities. and considering how much amelia put into getting herself into the academy so she could follow her dreams, she’s not about to let herself get overshadowed by addy who’s supposed to be an actress and is only just getting into music.

Dylan - Long distance ex from over the summer/high school. but since leaving VS and going their separate ways, they lost touch. mainly thanks to amelia. and their break up only came when dylan heard online that she was now seeing the dean of diamond bridge’s son. he hadn’t expected it at all as they hadn’t spoken, but he took that to mean they were over.

Jihoon - They have a very strong working relationship even though they’re in different parts of the world. jihoon helps amelia produce tracks and because she’s become and perfectionist with her music, she delays putting a lot of things out there, but jihoon is always encouraging her and pushing her to release things. she genuinely appreciates his support.

Peter C - Peter was the reason Amelia didn’t get into any academy she auditioned for, all because she found out the truth about how Mason had paid for Peter to go to Liberty. She threatened to tell and before she knew it, she got all rejections. but now that she found her own way into Diamond Bridge, Peter also knows the truth. They keep each other’s secret to protect themselves but they always bicker and threaten each other.

James - her boyfriend but in her eyes, it's a fake relationship. She's used him because he's the son of the Dean of Diamond Bridge, and after the mess with Peter and her not getting in fairly, this was her way at fixing it. She's continuing to play along until she feels secure enough in her career and what's she's bringing to her academy so she knows she won't get kicked out. He doesn't know she's faking but there's definitely aspects of him using her too.

Wren - a songwriting friend; amelia doesn't care about her past or drama, she just enjoys her company and they hang out and work together a lot

Someone who knows that she’s fake dating the dean’s son but helps her keep up appearances and cover her tracks. They don’t have to necessarily go to the same uni, it could just be that they were pretty great friends in high school so on social media etc, they back her up and they’d stayed in touch. They’ll also obviously know the lie is to make sure she has a place at her chosen school.

Someone who’s suspicious their relationship isn’t real but can’t prove it but just generally doesn’t trust her, even though they have no slid reasons to. (btw I’d prefer if they didn’t publicly argue that it’s fake and they keep their suspicions to themselves/to her in case they’re wrong or for whatever reason)

Friends with benefits; they could know that she needs it to be a secret because of the fake relationship, and it could be that they need it to be a secret too so they kinda help each other out.

What sort of analytics/stats do you track for your comic/story and why?

I prefer to track trends instead of stats, and for views mostly. I like to make mental notes the differences certain things make. I don't really like to think of comments and likes as stats, even though they might count. I prefer just to look to views for trends, and honestly I check kind of rarely because otherwise I get a bit invested in them. If I'm only looking at views once a month it's a simple transaction of time and effort versus something I might delude myself into thinking I have control over.

Erin Ptah (BICP | Leif & Thorn)

I use the Jetpack plugin for Wordpress stats. Nice graphs and basic data -- how many hits, where readers are coming from, what pages get the most traffic. But it has limits...like, here's the graph of hits over the last month, there's clearly a big jump in the past week, and I have no idea why?

There aren't any referral links that are generating a ton of new visitors -- unless it's a link from somewhere the plugin can't track. I don't know if it's a bunch of new readers arriving and reading bits at a time, or a small number of readers going through the entire archive very quickly. Or maybe a bunch of existing readers felt like it was time to re-binge the backlog? Maybe it's from people in lockdown who are all going through their "comics to read" bookmarks at the same time? Could be basically anything.

I also keep an eye on php script executions, because my hosting company limits those the way other places limit bandwidth. There's some "running automatically without doing anything essential" Wordpress scripts that I've found and disabled to keep the stats down, that I wouldn't even know existed if I didn't have to pay attention to it.

Oh, and ads -- I try to keep coming up with new banners for comicad.net, and then watch their stats and retire the ones that get the lowest click-through rate.

I track through google analytics. It’s used by the marketing agency I work for and easy to install, so I trust it. It’s a bit complicated to look at if you’re not sure what it’s saying, but it’s very robust. I usually just see if there’s an uptick in new users at all, and if there is, I try to see where they’re coming from. Google analytics is great for identifying where people are being referred from

Then in combination with that, I check page views to just see if they’re new users who have never read before, so there’s a big jump in page views if they are.

Life Update

So...I don’t know if anybody even cares but for people out there who have been following along and would want an update or if anybody is going through something similar right now and this post helps them or could help somebody in the future, I have a little life update, Tumblr friends. And I’m still processing so apologies if this post is long and a little rambling. 

As most of you probably know, in mid July I started my first “real” job (not counting service industry jobs I had while I was in school and for a year and a bit after graduating) after graduating college in spring 2017 as an Administrative Assistant at a media production company that also had its own nonprofit organization, after being unemployed for about 10 months prior to starting that job this past July. I was hired for the media production side but since it was a small company/office, I did work for both the nonprofit and the company itself.  It was supposed to be a 3 month summer internship contract with the hope of extending the contract another few months or indefinitely if everything went well during the first 3 months which was also the standard 3 month probation period that is pretty standard with most or all jobs pretty much. 

While the first few weeks were going well, I think, unfortunately, I feel like things kind of started going downhill (for lack of a better term right now) about a month ago or so and I just started feeling really uneasy at work and doubting myself a lot. And I guess my supervisor agreed that things weren’t working out the way either of us had hoped when I was hired and last Wednesday, I was unfortunately let go. I won’t go into everything here about why and what happened but feel free to message me off anon and we can talk if you’re that curious but I don’t think anybody will be. But I don’t mind talking about it more in depth privately. 

And while I am still processing my feelings and trying to figure out what this means for me and my future, ultimately I’m fine. There is definitely a mixture of emotions, a mixture of kind of relief since I had a feeling this was coming anyways and excitement about what new possibilities this opened up but also of course, the inevitable sadness and disappointment and feelings of embarrassment and failure that come with these situations. As much as I wish I could crawl under the bed covers and hide from the world...I can’t lol and am feeling a lot better after continuing with my already planned weekend plans and seeing friends and watching some excellent movies that proved to be a good distraction. 

My supervisor really couldn’t have been kinder about the way she handled it or as kind and professional as you can be in that situation. Both of us were sad and disappointed that things didn’t work out the way either of us had hoped when I was hired and that this job and company wasn’t the right fit for me at this time. I’m definitely relieved she did things with kindness in a dignified way and that I am leaving on good terms and that there are no hard feelings between either of us. Honestly I had a feeling this was coming so even though she let me go, it was sort of a mutual decision and we were on the same page so I wasn’t completely blindsided or anything. It wasn’t as catastrophic as that moment in movies and television shows makes it seem and it wasn’t a bullshit D*nald T*ump “You’re fired!” kind of firing or anything. Our office didn’t have a conference/meeting room and there is no privacy since its a small office so she took me out for coffee to do it and we ended up having a good constructive conversation about my strengths and weaknesses, what both of us could have done differently, how she can maybe do things differently if she hired for my position again in the future etc. It wasn’t like a major mistake or misconduct or anything that got me fired, the position and company just wasn’t a good fit for me personally at the end of the day, at this point in time.

So yeah, even though Tuesday and Wednesday were rough and I’m still processing, figuring out where I go from here, worried about the future, about money etc. I’m mostly fine. This was probably for the best and better that it happened when I’d only been there about a month and a half. I’m taking it as a life lesson and can use what went wrong to help me figure out what I want/need in a future position and company or even industry now that I better know what my strengths and weaknesses are and what kind of work environment and conditions I would probably work better in/under in the future. 

I’m disappointed in myself that I’m back to being where I was a year ago, unemployed and back to job searching etc. but I’m mostly excited for the future actually since this means that hopefully I’ll be moving on to bigger and better opportunities in the future now that I have a little more experience outside of the service industry,  and hopefully I’ll have better luck with getting a job with more hours/better pay or a bigger company (even though its difficult to get a foot in the door at big companies). I’m even thinking about going back to school in 2020 maybe, I still have to look into my options which I will be doing over the next couple of weeks as well going into application time so I’ll keep everyone posted. 

It’s been a rough few days, and I’m definitely trying to not let the darkness seep in and am trying to stay optimistic. Everyone I’ve told so far has been nothing but supportive and helpful for the most part and I know I have a lot of other things in my life to be grateful for and that I’m not defined by my job!

This post was long so hopefully I didn’t forget anything I wanted to say lol but I think I about covered everything. 

tl;dr: I started working as an Administrative Assistant at a media production company in July on a 3-month contract. Things didn’t work out and unfortunately I was let go this past Wednesday. But I know everything will be okay, the possibilities are endless and onto bigger and better things hopefully! Onward and upward!

I have NOT edited or corrected the story, because I am a little busy and I’m hoping, there aren’t too many errors.

“Welcome to Y/S/N!!” A female confidential voice, were searching your name. As the big blue boarders revealed your dressed-up frame, giving the audience your latest song. The crowd cheering and clapping at your entrance, as the speakers boomed with your angelic voice. After a few minutes of performing, a short-haired blonde approached you with open arms as her smile were pulling your lip muscles.

“Welcome to the Ellen show! Thank you for coming!” She spoke, guiding you to the white chair. Her contagious smile, made your cheeks hurt.

“Thank you for inviting me! I was so thrilled getting an invitation” You responded with a light giggle, as you both got seated in each of the chairs.

“I’m glad you could come, I wasn’t sure if it was possible with your stuffed schedule. Your latest song has been reaching the charts the past weeks, how does it feel?” Ellen questioned, as the crowd clapped at her. You couldn’t help but feel shy, after finally getting a song to reach the world charts.

“It is a bit busy nowadays, but I’m happy. I’m glad people love my song and it brings me so much energy!” You spoke happily at the woman, who you had a small wish to meet as a teenager.

“You started as a person who did youtube, making covers of famous songs. After working on your vocals, Rock records reached out to you, how did you react?” She explained, for the people who maybe didn’t know your background.

“I was excited and I almost couldn’t believe it myself. Even though I was nervous, they didn’t seem to take ‘no’ for an answer. They have helped me a lot, to produce and develop my talent.” You answered with a smile, making the crowd cheer. The audience didn’t fail to react, either to your answer or appearance, but the loud clapping made your legs shake of excitement.

“It was already last year in 2016, January that they announced a new singer to America. Did they choose your stage name?” She asked, leaning at the arm chair.

“It has been going so fast, and I couldn’t believe it when my song hit the charts. My manager and me, decided on my stage name. Unique, but easy for people to remember” You answered again, making her nod along.

“Then your fanbase must have been sky rocking on social media and across the world?” She questioned curiously, making you think of your twitter’s following count blow up.

“They did, but back then when I started in my career. I still had supporters, encouraging me through the media. My first fans, has been incredible.” You spoke firmly, having the people around to clap.

“They must be proud of your achievement. Here on the Ellen show, we have a segment of answering some twitter questions. My crew has been plucking out a few, and hopefully you could answer them?” Ellen requested, making you smile widely with a silent ‘yeah!’. The screen behind you, lit up with a twitter question as Ellen read them out loud.

“What is your goal, now that you have gotten a song to hit the world charts?”

“My goal will always be, to hit the charts. But right now, I’m hoping to do a US Tour, or world Tour.” You answered, hearing the crowd cheer of the idea.

“Will you change your appearance or your behaviour after getting more recognition?”

“I don’t think so. My appearance will always be up for a change, for the better. My behaviour and goals, will always stay the same. I’m confidence, that I do not need to be ‘faking’ for my fans, to get more. The ones who has always been with me, knows what I stand for. If I lose fans, for the way I am now, then that’s too bad. I strive to be true, for everyone.” You spoke loudly making the audience stand up to clap. Ellen had a wide smile, as you saw her eyes glister of joy. Being true to your fans, has always been a priority. Seeing famous people change for the voice, always broke your heart. Betraying your fans, would be the last thing you wanted.

“Alright, the last question is a bit juicy. WHO is your celebrity crush?” She cooed, making the crowd gasp curiously. As you felt your cheeks heat rise, of the person you had in mind. Your finger fiddling nervously, as you answered.

“Rapmonster…” You almost whispered, making Ellen tilt her head. The crowd went silent, making it obvious people were confused who this ‘Rapmonster’ is.

“Rapmonster? I don’t think I’m familiar with that person…” She wondered, making you feel like a school girl, as you overcame your shyness. This show was a famous program, and the thought of that Kim Namjoon would be seeing this, was a dream.

“Rapmonster, is his stage name but his real name is Kim Namjoon. He is a rapper, composer and leader in the group Bangtan boys, but BTS for short. They reached the US charts not too long ago, with ‘Blood sweat and Tears” You explained, hearing a few gasps here and there. Apparently, not a lot of people knew. But Ellen’s confused facial expressions, disappeared as she clapped her hands once.

“Oh of course!! I heard their song and saw their MV. Their choreography seems intense, have you thought about collaborating with them?” She questioned curiously, as her smiled came back.

“I wish, their songs are amazing. I always wanted to collaborate with them, because their voices are so unique and their choreography is inspirational of me, wanting to dance.” You laughed, as Ellen waved her hand at the crew.

“Is there a choreography you can dance of theirs?” She asked, making you smile at her. While the crowd cheered, for you to show it.

“I know the key point of the dance ‘Blood, sweat and tears’ but not all of it” You shyly spoke, making Ellen put on the song. Her hands flatly pointed to the clean floor, making you stand up to step out. The song’s rhythm taking your limbs and showed the crowd how Jimin’s iconic move. Everyone was fixated at your movements, while not a single fail was made.

After finishing off the dance, with a light bow. Ellen thanked you again, for joining her show. A ‘follow’ on Twitter, and the crowd clapping at your exit. One of your teenage dreams has been fulfilled and nothing else could overcome that.

“Hyung! Look, Y/S/N is mentioning you on the Ellen show!” Jungkook spoke, as he handed his phone to Namjoon. Putting away his pen, and scrambled paper he took the phone to see a Youtube video. A on-the-rise star that he had been mentioning to the boys, was now talking about him. Your angelic voice, that would make his knees weak and even, give inspiration to write more songs. Your wish of collaborating for a song, made Namjoon wonder. After finishing your video, he was calling his manager. A serious talk, about the US tour and ideas were on display. The boys were curious, what the leader had in mind.

Reading the tweet over and over again, you jumped upon your couch. After a few days of being on the Ellen show, you had no idea this would ever happen. Namjoon, had tweeted to you. With your shaking hands, you called your manager to bring the news. Barely getting a correct word out, your manager liked the idea and set the deal in motion. Only an hour later, he called back to make sure, that Rapmonster was ready in three hours to talk about the song. The joy of your scream, almost made your manager’s ear deaf. The excitement and opportunity to meet your celebrity crush, was too surreal.

“What am I going to wear?!” You screamed, after hanging up on the phone. You had two hours, of getting ready and find the perfect clothes. After trying on thousands of different clothes, you went the casual way. A white blouse, with black jeans and converse. The two hours flew away, as your phone started ringing again. The manager was just outside your apartment, waiting for you two get down.

The ride towards the studio, made your heart beat faster and a hint of dizziness filled your body. You were still overwhelmed of the news and in just a few minutes, you would be sitting near Kim Namjoon, talking about a song. Your hands were sweaty, as you saw the building come to view. Breathing in and out, you hoped it wasn’t noticeable of your nervousness.

Stepping into the office room, you were met with a male. He wasn’t Namjoon, but he approached you with a smile and handshake. After talking for a bit, his English wasn’t the best. The man explained how long they had in the US and what they had in mind, doing the collaboration. The managers went together, fixing the papers while you walked further inside.

Met by another familiar man, who was seated at the table. His eyes fixated on his phone, as he tapped away. Namjoon, was right there in front of you. Your breath taking away, seeing his fashion clothes shine. His plump lips, that you thought was so full it was unbelievable. He didn’t seem to have noticed you, but you didn’t mind, as you tried to calm your nerves. His leg was shaking, making his foot tap along the floor.

“Maybe he is nervous too?” You wondered, feeling your heart fall to a normal beat. Coughing lightly, his face revealed itself from his phone. A familiar loving smile and stood up from the chair, approaching you with a hand.

“You must be Y/N, I have heard a lot about you” He spoke with his deep voice. His soft hand and slender fingers, made your body shiver. A clear vocabulary, making it unable for you to misunderstand.
