Did you know the color lavender is very much intertwined with LGBTQ+ history?
From Sappho's poetry, to the 1920's gay anthem, to the "Lavender Menace" of the 1970's, lavender is in fact THE gay color.

Intercessors of the Lavender Menace Chapter:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have a big 40k event coming up this weekend and I needed to do a bunch of painting to get ready.
I got the models secondhand several years back but never had quite the motivation to paint them. Intercessors are not the flashiest toys to play with, but I am warming up to them.
Elements worth noting are the head swap on the sergeant and the custom decals on their left shoulders. It was a quick job but painted minis look a lot better than grey plastic.

Pride! Featuring a lesbian and a bisexual
Tumblr media
Pride symbols:
Big flag is the Sapphic flag- for WLW no matter main sexual orientation
Lavender color and flowers- comes from the saying Lavender Menace used to describe queer and mainly WLW in the 1950-60s ish
Y’all stands for all- cause Tweak is southern
Flower in Dashi’s hair- Hawai’ian way of saying if you are taken or single, right side = single, left side = taken

Retro 1950's style design of "The Lavender Menace", which at first was a negative term for the association of lesbianism with the feminist movement, but was later reclaimed as a positive term by lesbian feminists.
The relaxed fit t-shirt and other products with this design are available on my Redbubble

Black Femme Flag and Femme Symbol by thegenderthieves
Continuing to repost some of my friends' stuff from their terminated accounts so that it's more easily findable (with their permission ofc) All text is pasted straight from the original coining!
Tumblr media
The femme version of the black butch flag is out! It’s inclusive of all black femmes
The colours are inspired by the femme flag and the dyke flag (you don’t need to have reclaimed dyke to use this flag ofc!)
Meaning:
Black - black history and black sapphic history
Purple - lesbian and sapphic history, love of women and non-men, sapphic power
Lavender - femininity
Light pink - femmeness, gender expression and/or gender non-conformity, unity
Pink - inclusivity of all sapphics, including trans, non-binary, mspec, aroacespec, and other sapphics
Magenta - breaking sapphic stereotpes
Lotus and labrys axe - femininity, strength, rebellion, and liberation
My Femme Symbol (not black-exclusive):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My femme symbol is free to use on other flags (with credit). Both the symbol and flag can be made into emojis and used elsewhere without credit as long as you’re not claiming them as your own!
Version with no symbol:

I’ve been trying to collect my thoughts and decide what to say about lavender haze.
First off we can’t ignore the significance that lavender has had to the queer community (lavender marriages, lavender scare, lavender menace).
But despite this i am overwhelmingly hurt today. If taylor wanted to tell people she was straight she could just do that instead of making an insinuation that gaylors are “weird”. It’s not weird to think someone might be queer - especially when they constantly partake in and display queer messaging - and this doesn’t invalidate her relationship with joe at all because bi and pan people exist. and the only reason why you would think it would be wrong to wonder if someone might be gay is if you think that being gay is a bad thing - which it isn’t.
And now straight people are sharing their “lavender relationships” as if that term isn’t already caked in queer meaning and history.
so now if taylor isn’t queer in any way she’s just using us for profit which makes her an asshole and not an ally to the community she claims to support.
i’m just sad and disappointed, but unfortunately not surprised.
