Caine’s Lesson - Part 13

•

Pomni and Gummigoo arrived at the jazz club, the Head Detective Pockatch staying behind to comfort Madam Tick.

“Detectives! This way!”

The two followed another individual, who was dressed as a police officer, into the building. They were lead to the centre stage where a sheet was covering a body.

“This has gotta be one of our hardest cases yet! I’ve gotta go back outside to manage the crowd! Good luck Detectives.”

Pomni glanced to Gummigoo, a little uncertain about where to start.

“I- guess we gotta take a look at the body?” Queried Gummigoo, with a shrug.

Pomni took a deep breath and pulled back the sheet.

It was a bunch of clock parts and a fancy looking shirt arranged in the shape of a person. It appeared the NPC had had their head chopped off!

“So.. We’re looking for something… big and uh swingable?” Murmured Pomni.

“Something like that?” Spoke Gummigoo, pointing to a large guitar in the shape of an axe. She walked up to it and looked at the supposed blade, it looked a little too sharp to be just for show and the dark oily substance around the middle of the blade told them they where on the right track!

“We should ask who uses that guitar normally.” Decided Pomni.

Gummigoo nodded in agreement and the pair went to find that officer.

Apparently they were now looking for a Tam O’clock! He’d evaded all contact with the officers and had seemingly slipped away from his band members when Madam Tick went to notify the detectives.

“Seems we’ve got a bit of huntin to do.” Hummed Gummigoo. The pair were now looking around the room where all the band mates and staff had been held.

“Alright, looks like he only could’ve left through this door without being seen.” He continued, locating an unlocked door at the back of the room.

“Nice find!” Smiled Pomni, trotting over to him and pushing it open. The door lead to a very dark looking alleyway which lead off into several other alleys.

“Oh boy… this is gonna take a while? Isn’t it?” Grimaced Pomni.

“Unfortunately-“

The two walked down the alleys one by one for what felt like a while now. They had to be missing something- These alleys were all storage, linking to other buildings that were locked. Tam didn’t have much more room to run. But Gummigoo and Pomni were running out of places to look.

So, they decided to go inside and interview some of his band members.

First was Monsieur Tock, the bands lead singer.

“Tam never really got a long with bossman, so if he did do this, it’s awful but I wouldn’t be surprised-“

Then Kate Pm, the bands saxophone player.

“He bloody deserves to be dead! So many checks he didn’t send us- Hopefully our new boss won’t be a money sucking loser… Oh, wait you wanted to hear about Tam didn’t ya? He totally did it- Like you should read his diary- He was so hateful of our boss, wrote about him everyday-“

Lastly was the bands pianist, Whinches Hrous.

“Uh, well.. Tam was always known for climbing- So… maybe look up high? He used to climb up the stage curtains and the support beams when he performed- For the extra bedazzle factor-“

At least someone had been able to give them some kind of helpful information. Gummigoo made sure to grab some handcuffs from one of the officers before they went back out to the alleyway.

All the information gave the pair a new sense of perspective, looking up now instead of at head level.

Pomni eventually spotted a large dumpster pressed up against a building. Not too far above it was an open window. Bingo.

She nudged Gummigoo and nodded in the direction of the window. He nodded and quietly climbed up the dumpster and into the window. Pomni heard a few shouts from a new voice.

“BAM!”

“POW!”

“SMACK!”

All flashed by in front of Pomni like a silly cartoon. She got to watch as a handcuffed Tam O’clock fell out of the window and landed in the alley with a comedic thump.

“Got him Poms!” Grinned Gummigoo, waving to her as he climbed down back into the alley.

“Woo! Mission accomplished!” Smiled Pomni, giving him a side hug. “H-He didn’t hit you too harshly did he?”

“Nope, I caught him off guard so I’m all well.” He winked playfully.

“Right, right.” Snickered Pomni. “Come on let’s get him to the officers.”

The pair dragged Tam O’clock back out to the cops and watched as he was dragged away by the officers, cursing their names loudly with a lot of kicking and fussing.

The two shared a playful little fist bump. It was kind of exhilarating to finish a detective case- Even if they both knew deep down the whole situation was most likely scripted just like the original candy kingdom adventure was, it was still fun!

Now they just had to find a way out of here!

The way out kind of… found them though-

The atmosphere fractured around them and they were engulfed by the blue pixelated essence and were off to their next adventure!
