Im sick with flu so naturally I picked up my newly bought copy of Howl's Moving Castle which includes DWJ interviews in the back.

And im in love with the way she tells these stories feels like a part of her books.

And my favorite:

I suppose there's also a biographical element in that Sophie is the eldest of three sisters, and so am I. The idea for Sophie grew out of the time I discovered I had a very severe milk allergy. I almost lost the use of my legs and had to walk with the aid of a stick. I was moderately young, but because of this I suddenly became old.

I had to wait until I knew what Wizard Howl was like. I began to discover Howl about the time when one of my sons took to spending several hours in the bathroom every morning and I got really, really, really annoyed with him.

Where were you when you wrote it? I wrote the book the way I write everything, stretched out on the big sofa in my sitting room, in everyone's way. This often annoys my husband rather a lot.

which made me burst out laughing. I laughed and laughed at the seven league boot, and when I came to the bit where Sophie accidentally makes Howl's suit twenty times too big for him, I laughed so much that I fell off the sofa. My husband was really irritated by this time. He snapped, "You can't be making yourself laugh!" And I gasped, "But I am, I am!" and rolled about on the floor.

Are any of your relatives or friends included in the book? Yes, well the thing that started me off writing the book was a friend of mine who never does her laundry. She has it around the place in huge bags for often as much as a year. When she does tip it all out and try to wash it, she discovers all sorts of clothes that she has forgotten she had.

Which is your favourite part of the book and why? I like the book all over, but I suppose if I had to choose a bit, I'd choose the place where Howl gets a cold. It so happened that when I was writing this bit, my husband caught a bad cold. He is the world's most histrionic cold catcher. He moans, he coughs, he piles on the pathos, he makes strange noises, he blows his nose exactly like a bassoon in a tunnel, he demands bacon sandwiches at all hours, and he is liable to appear (usually wrapped in someone else's dressing gown) at any time, announcing that he is dying of neglect and boredom. So all I had to do was write it down. End ID]

i just heard one of my favorite youtubers say this meme out loud in a video and the pronounciation FLOORED ME so now i gotta know:

Okay but… Learning that Arle’s curse regressed when she was with Clervie and wasn’t as bad just makes me wonder if that would happen with her s/o.

It’s not obvious at first, but the more time she spends with you, her curse lessens a bit in your presence. It might not completely regress, but maybe it becomes a lighter shade of grey, or maybe it recedes down her arms a bit. I just think it would be incredibly wholesome to be able to make her feel so calm and loved and happy again that her curse could improve in your company, if only even a little bit.

When she’s around the others nobody can tell, but when she comes home to you after a long day, wraps you up in her arms and lets out a sigh of release, her curse wanes as she becomes overwhelmed with peace.

AWW... so cute!! Arlecchino's curse had long covered far up her arm, a stark difference from when she was a child. She already accepted she wouldn't be able to see her lower arms and fingers return to their original color, but she had grown accustomed to it. Not to mention, you were never put off or scared by it, which was the most important part for her.

Arlecchino was a woman who always had her guard up, playing the role of a strict and unfeeling Father, carrying out her Harbinger duties, being the perfect diplomat. With her poised manner, it seemed like this was nothing to her. She even acted this way around you. But only you could see the very tiny holes in her act, when it was just the two of you. In the beginning, she wasn't very receptive to it, not because she was annoyed or anything, but because she simply never felt the things that you made her feel when you held her before. it was a foreign feeling. It was a feeling that was always said to be a hindrance. But when you kept putting your arms around her and nuzzling into her soft hair, she couldn't help but be swayed.

Obviously, she doesn't wear her heart on her sleeve, but, you can tell she appreciates your soothing company. You were probably cuddling with her one day when you noticed her arms seemed different, but you didn't comment on it because you just thought maybe it happens sometimes. But later on Arlie, ever the observant person, notices the ever so slightly receding of the curse. Naturally, she finds it odd, her curse hasn't regressed in so long, and she wants to find the cause. It doesn't take long for her to realize it fluctuates when she comes home to your arms after taking care of "business."

Of course, you feel very happy that you manage to have an effect on such a poker-faced woman. You have solid proof of how much she loves you! And it may not seem like much, but it's more than enough.

Another unrelated thought: When she says not to look into her eyes, because you may not like what you see. But reader isn't scared in the slightest and continues to stare right into them anyway. Arlecchino finds your boldness amusing but tells you not to be so reckless...

I think it's very cute, being able to be her solace after everything she's been through.

getting into milgram without knowing much at all about vocaloid is really, really funny when it comes to the cover songs. bc ive listened to all the milgram cover songs. but i almost never Already Know The Original.

we all know the "wait salamander is about what?" moment when this happens ofc. the classic "hold on fuuta sang that and its about cup noodles ?" moment. but i just had another one of these moments tonight and im losing it a little.

once again thinking about limes very quick descent into madness surrounding the time when he realizes he might like mochi after the first night he spends cuddling with her. always love the slow start of "Okay she's kinda cute I guess. She has cute tendencies sometimes. There, you happy? I admitted it. Now leave me alone." which in the span of about 3 days RAPIDLY spills into being unable to think about anything else to the point he can barely hold a conversation with anyone because his mind keeps daydreaming back to holding her in his arms. All day feeling like "I can still feel her warmth on me..." and has to keep being snapped back to reality by everyone around him

he can barely even talk to mochi because he keeps thinking about it. has no idea what to say to her the next day. is very quiet. and mochi thinks hes mad/uncomfortable with her now, since hes always so standoffish to girls at school she thinks she might be in that category now. so the next night while lime is about to go to bed, STILL THINKING ABOUT IT, and he gets a text from her that reads something like: [Hey lime!! about last night- sorry i fell asleep on you!! i know your not super comfortable with that stuff!! it wont happen again!! 🙇‍♀️ see you tomorrow!] and he feels his heart drop to his fucking stomach. lays there reading it back over and over with his thoughts a mix of "Yeah I guess that makes sense, it happened by accident. It was never gonna be a repetitive thing." vs "Won't happen again...? Like....ever? Are you fucking kidding me? I never get that ever again?"

eventually after an hour of tossing and turning, thinks up some bullshit excuse to sneak over to her house and climb up over her little bedroom balcony, knocks on her window and says something like "Hey uhhh you forgot one of your socks over at my place so I brought it back." or something that is absolutely stupid and could've definitely waited for the next day. manages to weasel his way into crawling into her bed with her because every bone in his body is telling him to.

my verdict on the day of the doctor novelization is that the plot is still so stupid to me but at least i can live my life knowing moffat can write ten marginally correctly but he only keeps it in a novelization where nobody is going to see it. (my personal highlights under the cut)

this is a really good take on the ten and river dynamic, they're acquaintances and ten purposefully keeps it that way. the "time can be rewritten maybe her horrible death that happened in front of me can be prevented if i stay away from her" really goes well with how he's left after the events of journey's end

"he had to stop thinking before it tore him apart!" is THE most ten narration i've seen in my life. i need to eat rocks

this part just makes me really really sad. the dissociation between the tone and what's actually happening (him getting tortured. for months). how he's so clearly not acknowledging what's happening to him (he won't describe the screaming as his own). how he latches onto the only other presence there and focuses on charming her and making her laugh??? this also makes the hinting at a romance between ten and elizabeth that moffat does, extremely fucking upsetting because you can see how ten is just so fucking lonely and on instinct attaching himself to anyone who has any amount of regular presence to him. even if. well. you know. the torture.

#i say marginally. it's not perfect. but he manages to get ten's general vibe down well and wow i didnt know u had it in u dude #manic and melodramatic. talking himself hoarse. pacing everywhere. repeating what he's saying over and over #simultaneously fearing and embracing death. full of so much love and anger and grief. like yeah .. thats my boy... he is here..#but the queen elizabeth marriage plotline is still. Annoying ! (i can see v clearly that moffat is trying to do like #a madame de pompadour 2.0 re: queen elizabeth in the novelization and it's like. steven he's aroace we've established this)#and i still. dont like what this overall story is trying to accomplish! but this is the fault of the episode the novelization cant fix that #but besides the expected gripes i have it was much more enjoyable to read than watching the actual episode #the structure of it was fun and does a lot in making use of the written medium that u couldnt do in tv live action #dr who #10 era #11 era #aspec doc tag #also realizing all my highlights are a singular aroace ten moment followed by ten being the saddest wettest beast you'll ever see. lord

i would die if you wrote anything expanding on that post about chuuya being taken over by baki and just floating all over the place and speaking with an echo until he gets to dazai at the ADA office - that was a great idea, very cool

here you go, a little more brainworms regarding that au!

• when Baki wakes up in a back alleyway and tries to stand up they overdo it and snap Chuuya's spine in the process. they try to walk and all of a sudden they are on the ground with mild pains from the vessel' legs. they aren't sure how a human body works, so for now they decide to just float.

• Baki, in my hc, is very curious for just about everything because it's quite rare that they 'view' the world through a humans' eyes

• piggybacking off of that, i think that they'd have trouble expressing their thoughts in the beggining (speaking in short, sometimes conflicting/unfinished sentences) because using human vocal cords without snapping them is difficult and also words have changed since the last time they were actively using them. Ranpo just chucks a dictionary at them and they absolutely ABSORB every word

• i also think that they'd want to sword fight with both Fukuzawa and Golden Demon/ Kouyou for fun

• they can make Dazai float and he just about gives up on life ( something something 'your human existence can not deny mine' yeah me thinks)

• i personally think that theyd be slightly more chill than expected, however when they get upset, or emotions generally run high, the control over the body begings to wobble. some examples of that being:

- the overlapping voices are the most common ones. they are a mass manifested through war and suffering and vengeance, thus Baki has to be extremely careful of how loud they speak because there's a great chance that someone's eardrums will explode.

- corruption markings are a damn near permanent fixture on Chuuya's skin, more so to help remind everyone that this isn't Chuuya in control right now (Dazai is constantly stressed about it, and has to consistently tell himself that it's fine), but they tend to grow and glow and move around like they are alive too, as if also taking offence that Baki is agitated. they also burn if touched directly

- people around an Agitated Baki feel like they are about to poof out of existence simply by being too close. Mori nearly dies once because Baki can see his general soul and is not pleased. it kinda feels like your blood suddenly starts running the other way, or your like heart is beating backwards and double in speed. not fun !

- sometimes birds fly into the windows. maybe the sky tints red, maybe there is ringing in the ears, static in the brain of those around them. maybe looking at Chuuya's form hurts a little, burns a little, blurs around the edges. what were his features again? what color were his eyes? his hair?

• Baki loves Chuuya and learning all about him :] ( "and his name? what is his name? we would love to know who our vessel is."

"it's Chuuya Nakahara.."

the entity thinks, hums for a bit, vibrations making the lights swim around it, then pleased, it smiles "hmm Chuuya... it suits him a lot" )

• disregarding stormbringer for a moment, when asked how exactly one traps a being like it, Baki kindly informs them that there are runes carved into every bone inside Chuuya. yes, they do mean every single one.

• also, and that's a little.... gruesome, but it's a misconception that Baki and Chuuya share only a consciousness. "it's like that most of the time, but right now what you are looking at is ... ah, let's say, our clothes. we are woven in-between his skin and bones and every blood vessel, but also we are separate. it's like a hand pupet? we are under his skin :)"

• Baki absolutely says unhinged things like its normal

• they also find it funny to tease Ranpo because they recognise just how smart of a human he is but also he's just that to them. a human

• i also have this scene when someone complains about the sun or something so Baki just,,, shifts either the Earth or the Sun a bit so that it's not shining directly at the person. everyone FREAKS abt this btw

• Baki also loves the Akutagawas and Kouyou bc Chuuya loves them :]

some skk things bc i love them:

• Baki tells Dazai, hand pressed against his heart, looking him dead in the eyes with that slightly unhinged expression "no wonder you hold onto warm things, for you have been warm once, then never again. no wonder you seek to be warm again" and Dazai just has to go through his day after that

• okay last thing off of the top of my head, but somehow they (the ada) get into the topic of worship and Baki casually drops that yes! they get prayers sometimes but nothing even begins to compare to the feeling of the worship from their most devoted person. naturally everyone wants to know who that is, and Baki tilts their head a little and then points to a Very Confused Dazai (Ranpo and Kunikida are exhanging money in the backround btw).

("but... i don't worship the hat rack?? what?"

"oh, but that can't be" they sway a little from their perch on Dazai's desk, appearing as if deep in thought. after the day, Dazai knows better. "but we can distinctly recal feeling a sort of warmth from you. say, how do you define worship? because it can be food offerings too. or thoughts about us or even just the pure, unrelenting faith that as long as you believe in us, your wish will be made into existence"

Dazai blinks at them, stunned.

"so now, has your answer changed?" )

• LAST one. Ranpo asks them if Dazai has ever nullified corruption with a kiss and Baki is like we think so? but Dazai denies that hard. Baki counters by saying that every place where 'coruption' has been nullified burns to this day. twice on left the wrist, once at the forearm. once at the right hand, once at the cheek, and once ot the lips. Dazai may or may not work harder to resolve the issue after that (he's never gonna beat the gay accusations)

(end of skk things hh)

• when it's time to surrender themselves back to Chuuyas will, Baki tells the ada + the Akutagawas and Kouyou, that when their time finally comes, when Chuuya is either one of them or dust in the wind, they will remember the kindness they have experienced. that they will live forever in the mind of a god

• Chuuya is so, so confused after waking up

I FINALLY GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!

I preordered this on amiami along with the rin and len version #bur for the last few months theyve been on back order so the release date kept getting pushed back #and i was cool with waiting it wasnt a big deal #but yesterday i was at kino with my friend and talking to them when my eyes saw the side that had the luka pic #and my brain was like 'why does that look familiar'#AND THEN I REMEMBER AND GASPED OUT LOUD #my friend thought i saw someone i had seen in ages and was about to catch up with them but NOPE!!!!#they only had this one and the meiko and miku ones. the rin and len ones werent there #and i just started telling my friend that ive been waiting MONTHS for this and couldnt believe i was seeing it with my own eyes #kino did price them kinda high but i decided to get it bc idk how long theyre gonna be backordered on it #at least now i have one of them. i can wait on the rin and len one #ngl they're bigger than i thought. i was expecting like tiny figures but theyre a bit bigger than a nendo #yo im so convinced that they packaged luka and kaito together bc meiko and kaito are the popular duo and luka and miku are a popular duo #so by separating them they can get people to buy both #(no separating the kagamines tho)#BUT AS A KAILUKA SHIPPER THIS IS PERFECT FOR ME #i almost didnt want to take them out of the box but i wanna display them #i cant believe there exists a box that has them both like wow i really love it #im looking at them on my dresser rn and they make me sooooo happy #man i love them!! great buy on my part #i was gonna put this with my haul post imma make rn but i wanted one with just them bc. look at them!!!

negativity really and truly and sadly ruins enjoyment so easily. practice curating positivity and what you want to see both online and in the interactions you have with others

#scrolled through a blog today that was just soooo negative about everything in dc #even their favorite characters #and wow it really ruined my whole experience for like an hour there #its good to be critical of the media you consume #but if it comes to the point of only ever talking about the negative... how can you ever expect anyone #to get any joy out of anything?#idk i hope i dont come across as too negative on here guys #ik i dont really talk comics all that much but i have mutuals who do and i rb a lot of their posts #and sometimes i worry i am curating too much a negative perception- i love comics! i love dc! its not perfect but #none of us would be around here if we didnt all actually have some love for it
