#okay random story time i don't know why im narrating this or how i even stumbled upon this memory rn#but i generally do sad vents in the tags and for a change this is a funny one#so back in highschool (i say highschool but i mean junior college) i used to visit this park near my house a lot#i was an sg kid back then and the thing about parks there is that they're kinda beach-parks and they have the best cycling/running tracks#they're also really massive parks so i used to go often. sometimes bicycling. other times walking. yeah. the park was like my sanctuary#anyway. there are quite a few bike rental areas in the park and there was a cute lil shop next to this one particular rental place#and they sold like biscuits and water and icecreams and stuff and i went there a lot#and on one particular day i went there and there was this guy around my age part timing at that shop#now again this might be culture specific bc i dont see it in india but part timing in uni/pre-uni is pretty common is sg#a lot of shops and restaurants employ teenagers to twenty something ppl for part time jobs... anyway im just adding context#point is that i had walked to the park with my mum that day and she told me to go buy a couple icecreams so i went to the shop#and i saw this guy around my age and like. not to be a simp but this dude was so pretty?#like he saw someone had come to the counter so he looked up and shot a smile and i thought i got slapped by sunlight#i could spend the next several lines going on about his pretty tan skin and his glowing raven eyes but this is pathetic enough so ill stop#anyway he saw me and smiled really wide (customer service smile- i thought to myself) and i smiled back and asked for icecreams or whatever#and then this guy started getting chatty right. so he was all 'you come here (to the park) often right? ive seen you with your bike a lot'#see now. the problem with me is that i always think im bothering people. this poor dude was attempting to make conversation#and i was replying with one word answers#and i wasn't even realizing that he didnt want that. bc he kept asking more questions and i. kept. shutting them down.#then when he gave me the icecream he was all 'are you here alone? icecream alone is no fun... i could keep you company if you want..?'#which. he was being really cute about right. but because im so fucking dense i was all 'oh no i came with my mom actually'#and he went 'aw man' in this really cute but faux sad way which i didnt understand at the time and i left and then#after three full fucking days. i realized this man was tryna hit on me?#and then i went to the park like a week later and he was gone. poof. i even thought of asking the uncle in charge of that place#then i got too embarrassed and chickened out#yeah so turns out my neurodivergence neutralizes any sort of rizz that comes my way#i could've been chilling with a cute boyf rn but no😩 this is my destiny#megumi in the tags

anyways i’m thinking about my birthday and im wondering what i should do (its in june). i dont wanna just go out to dinner because i did that last year and it was basically just… ik i can do better. whatever i do i know ill probably do on the friday or saturday night before or after bc my birthday is a weekday. it will also probably be my high school group (5 ppl) my hometown friends (2 ppl) and my work bestie (1 ppl).
1. powerpoint night.
pros:
- its cheap. can be done at my house and is really casual
- this is something i’ve wanted to do for a while (i actually wanted one for my 19th but my ex friends talked me out of it because they wouldn’t like it)
- my friends who havent met my cat can meet my cat
cons:
- will be getting a few different groups of friends together so it may be awkward for these people to present/ find topic
- my sister turned the ‘hangout space” into her hsc study area and really is anti giving it up for one night (i tried once). also her stuff gives bad vodoo bc hsc
- will probably have to kick family out
- i feel some ppl find the notion of a powerpoint presentation stressful bc high school (probably why my ex friends weren’t too keen)
- my house isnt great for public transport and funnily enough the friends who live furthest away don’t have their license . its a locals only bus service. you can tell.
2. escape room
pros
- really easy team building plus it doesn’t matter if its all different groups /some people don’t know each other well.
cons.
- expensive as fuck
- done lots of escape rooms
- doing with lots of people can be overwhelming and smaller teams kinda work better here (i did an escape room once and the team was like ten people and it was Too Much. i stood there useless half the time.)
3. quiz room
pros.
- really cool and unique also im a sucker for trivia and irl game show sounds cool.
- probably good for my desired group size.
- public transport accessible
cons.
- its literally $45 pp and like ik my friends aren’t that stingy but even im going… yikes
- will probably have to be organised far in advance
4. karaoke
pros.
- really affordable if you do it right
- reliable. really easy to organise and i know how to.
- public transport accessible

- my friends and i do this all the time
- once again the three ppl there who don’t really know my high school friends might find it awkward

Our beach camping trip was both a success and a failure.
I got there Friday around 5pm after a 6 hour drive. My one friend and her two corgis were already there. Faye knows these dogs well and Forte has met them once before on a hike. All four reacquainted themselves with some sniffing and then took to playing. Forte was more than thrilled to lead the corgis on a merry chase and the corgis, being corgis, were happy to chase him while yelling their fool heads off. I wish I had thought to video it because it was really cute.
After we let the dogs tire themselves out we went to a local place for dinner. We had the whole patio to ourselves and all four dogs napped under the table while we ate. It was also nice to catch up with my friend. A few people spotted the corgis and squealed over them and we let the dogs meet their adoring fans. Forte wasn't on duty so I gave him permission to say hi as well and he actually stuffed himself into one lady's lap, which she told me would be the highlight of her weekend.
When we arrived back at the beach the dogs played some more while we set up camp. It was cool and the wind was picking up but not too bad. I positioned the portable crate against my tent so the tent was blocking the brunt of it. I put a towel over it (weighed down) so it was covering part of the back, front, and exposed side. And when we went to bed around 1:45am Faye went in without prompting and immediately went to sleep. Forte and I got cozy in the tent as the air mattress I bought was bigger/taller than expected and left us closer to the ceiling than I would have preferred.
He woke once around 2:40am and grumbled when the wild horses came through but settled after they left and snuggled me till I got up around 6.
And that's where things went down hill.
I thought the wind sounded worse than it was because I was in a tent. But it was whipping sand around to the point that our other friend, who showed up in the small hours, was wearing ski gear to protect herself.
While we were sitting/chatting/waiting for our friend to get up both Faye and Forte were hunkered down, Forte next to me and Faye under the table. They both were low growling at every dog who passed even remotely close by. Which is out of character for them. Faye can get testy about another dog in her face but both of them are generally neutral even around reactive dogs.
I took the dogs on an hour long walk off the beach to burn some energy/avoid being pelted by sand in the hopes that would help.
But even when we set up on the beach closer to the water with less dry sand for the wind to whip up both dogs were clearly uncomfortable. To the point that they started snarling at even my friends dogs for getting too close. At that point I decided to call it quits. My friends were disappointed (the one I'm less close to was actually pretty derisive) but I packed up anyway.
If the dogs were having a good time and only I was not, I'd have sucked it up and stayed. But I just don't see the point in staying when they're both so stressed out that they're being reactive. That's so far out of character for them that I'd be hard pressed to justify it even if I were having a great time.
So yeah, I left. It sucked, I felt shitty, and it wasn't particularly fun to have driven a total of 11 hours for a less than 24 hour stay. But in the end I'm unwilling to subject my dogs to a situation where they're that far over threshold when I have no way to give them relief from it.

#mine#6.5h in (i may have stayed up past my bedtime) and i am beyond impressed#not only do i get the wish fulfillment of making myself a sick ass wizard who hangs out with cool fantasy people#and does cool fantasy stuff including hitting people with magic (my dream)#but like the whole world feels like REAL also it feels FUCKING HUGE OMG THERES SO MANY AREAS#I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO GET TO AND THERES LIKE LITTLE HIDDEN ITEMS EVERYWHERE#AND LIKE SHIT GOING ON ALL THE TIME LIKE WTF THIS PLACE IS HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!#i kind of like how directionless it is like obviously theres the main story and stuff but you can really dick around#and you can kind of set your own pace and do things your way which is very enjoyable#even for me as someone who is kind of stupid and needs to be told what to do in video games#i think that aspect of it and the combat system being kind of complicated (but in a fun and challenging way imo)#is hopefully going to make me not suck at video games so hard LMAO#i did die last night i got my ass beat in the overgrown ruins chapel area on the beach...embarrassing#so i had to reset my save to immediately post-crash which was a valuable lesson#anyway i really like how it feels like every dialogue and action choice has so much gravity to it#before i click anything im always like will this make someone mad at me...#will this make someone like me...will this cause something in my vicinity to explode...etc. it's kind of heavy but in a fun way#idk i'm super charmed by it lol i'm going to play like all day maybe#my tav is a high half elf wizard (transmutation school) if anyone was wondering :3#hes a bit of a self insert lol he looks like a hotter fantasy wizard version of me#but hes also kind of a discrete guy (i say this because hes been doing more killing than i would want to)#(like when i went to the church and had to kill those guys i didnt wanna do it but i had to :( wah)#anyway.....fun game. all should play#o astarion kinda hates me too lol i need more points with him im just too nice#shart likes me and wyll likes me too i think (idk how to check approval on the steam deck lol)#i havent found the other companions i seriously have no fucking clue where they are#one of the goals for today is to go sniff them out lmao
