Observing various takes and tags on the content warnings poll and while my initial response was 'I see their utility but have a kneejerk assumption that the work that follows will be very Online' I am increasingly persuaded that the ideal solution is a folksonomy system a la 'does the dog die'. Because, frankly, the author may not realize what's most upsetting about their work. If an author deliberately writes about sexism, for example, it's easy enough to warn for. But if the author unconsciously writes something sexist, they're not going to think to warn for it, are they? If there are content warnings for other things, that just means the reader will be even more blindsided. Author-generated warnings leave you at the mercy of what they think is most upsetting, and that's a personal judgment. If we were going to hypothetically make this a Thing, I think crowdsourcing is your best bet.
#for example in season 4 wolf 359 starts warning for gun violence#it does not warn for ableism when there's an extensive segment making fun of how disgusting#a disabled woman's prosthetics are#presumably bc it was a no pun intended blind spot... those implications didn't occur to the writers#but that doesn't mean someone might not find it hurtful#how do you catch all those on your own

- in which "Solomon" is having such an unusual heartbeat and Sitri is at a loss...

Sitri had followed them outside without even knowing. Had Solomon not turned around to address him, he wouldn't have noticed. Yet they agreed to let him tag along, wherever their destination may be. He didn't dare to ask, too preoccupied with something else.
Their heart, of course.
He'd noticed that over the past few days, it's been a bit…off? Sitri doesn't know how to describe it.
The pattern of their heartbeat had changed. It wasn't how it sounded when they were out of breath or needing essence. It wasn't even how it would usually be when they're in the midst of pleasure, with another person or otherwise.
No, no. This pattern was halting and stuttering. Skipping a beat to rise without reason. It was accompanied by shallow breathing and shaky exhales.
It made him worry. Curious. And aroused.
As much as he wants to take Solomon away to a quieter place to hear their heartbeat better, Sitri knows he shouldn't. Just because he's very intrigued by this, doesn’t mean he'll jump on them without regard for their personal reservations. He respects them after all.
They've made a full circuit around the block and Sitri was getting worried. Their heartbeat was becoming more erratic. He can see them slow down.
"Sol–?!"
Solomon tipped sideways, hand shooting out to grab hold of a wall to steady themself.
He was at their side in an instant, hands on their arms to help them upright.
"N-no. Let me…sit down…" They shook their head stubbornly, face pallid and brows furrowed.
It was only then did Sitri notice their ragged breathing. But he did as they requested, making sure to sit them down in a shaded area between two buildings.
They slumped gracelessly on the ground, head lolling forward.
"What's happening?!"
Solomon was still alive and breathing, unscathed and all. Yet…
“It's fine,” they gasped, failing to keep their voice steady. They leaned back against the pale brick wall. “I just–need a c-couple of…minutes-” As reassuring as they tried to be, their halting speech made Sitri frown.
Nothing looks okay. Nothing sounds okay. To Solomon's norm at least. For Sitri though…
He leaned closer, wanting to press his ear against their sternum. Maybe if he can hear their heart better, he'd know what to do next—
A palm struck his forehead and he stiffened. He had unknowingly leaned closer to Solomon, crowding their slumped body
“Back. Off.” Solomon's words were harsh, their face trying to keep a serious facade despite the obvious discomfort they're going through. “Don't touch.”
Sitri should touch! He definitely should, especially with how their heartbeat picked up so enticingly. He was, once again, entranced by the irregular rhythm. Even as Solomon curled up, putting their head between their knees and arms wrapped around their slightly trembling body…
His mouth felt dry. He knows his face was most likely a bright shade of red with how hot under the collar he felt. The tightness in his pants did help either…
No–! Solomon is clearly in distress, still curled up with their shoulders heaving and breaths audible in the empty alleyway. He can only hang back, on alert for any danger…
Thumpthumpthump—
Thump…
Thump thump—
Thump…
The heartbeat sounded like it was trying to right itself.
Sitri refocused on Solomon, finding them uncurled and leaning slightly to the right. They leaned their head back against the bricks once more, hand clutching their shirt right over their heart. He observes their breathing.
Inhale–
1…2���3…4…
Hold–
1…2…3…4…5…6…7…
Exhale—
1…2…3…4…5…6…7…8…
Solomon repeated this over and over, their face easing as their heart rate slowly settled into a more normal pace. It still stuttered here and there, though not as unusual as before.
With one final loud exhale, Solomon looks back at him.
“Thanks for your help,” they deadpanned. They started to pick themself up from the ground.
“Apologies,” he replied sincerely. “This never happened before with you, Solomon. I wasn't sure how to assist.” Maybe it was time for a refresher course on practical first aid with the Paradise Lost doctors…
“Well, it wasn't an emergency but…” There was a look in their eyes that he couldn't quite place, paired with the furrowed brows and pressed lips. “Anyway, let's go back. Satan's blowing up my phone.”
Sitri trailed behind Solomon like a puppy, eyes and ears trained on them. He wonders when and how he can hear that kind of heartbeat again…

I'm not a "ship" person whatsoever but I do scroll character tags on occasion and see quite a bit of Vox and Vel together as well as what seems to be a lot of what I'm assuming is female original character stuff. I've even seen some Charlie and Vox too. So it's out there, but unless you're scrolling through character tags I can see how it might be hard to find. Personally, I also block/filter a lot of the big "ship" tags so maybe that also makes it easier for me to stumble across this stuff that "slips" through since I don't know if those pairings have names.
I get your point though. I do think many are inclined to erase his bisexuality when it's convenient. Interestingly, they also erase Valentino's pansexuality too. The same with Husk as well, but I check his tag a lot less so who knows.
What disappoints me, and I know I'm about to come off as nit-picky right now lol, is the lack of research people put into their "sexuality" headcanons for the characters with reference to their different eras. When reading some of them, you'd think the idea of "gay rights" was a completely new and foreign topic that only emerged after the early 2000s. I get people want to go for the simplistic "repressed and doesn't know what being [insert identity here] is" for some of the older characters but that completely ignores a fascinating and rich tapestry of queer history that could create far more interesting (and still accurate) stories for the characters/their backgrounds. I would really encourage those who haven't already or are generally unfamiliar to dive into this history as it might inspire their character ideas while also educate them on the work, art, and activism our queer elders have contributed to the community we have today.
I think this may partially relate to character ages being under explored as well. While I've seen debate on what is canon/has been decanonized many of these characters, as far as we know, died in their late 30s and beyond. That's a lot of life to live and experience. While certainly many people throughout history (and even today) kept their sexuality hidden from the public due to culture, shame, and safety that doesn't mean there weren't many incredible private venues/spaces that could be utilized to explore those feelings/identities in secret.
I could go on and on about this but I've totally strayed from your original point (I'm sorry!) and I'm very tired haha. I just think there are multiple factors coming into play here with these character interpretations and, for me, the biggest missed opportunity is the lack of historical research. But end of the day people should have their fun! Just an observation.
Completely agree with this! I doubt my response will be as long since I just woke up but other characters doing certain things or not knowing about sexualities is interesting, it just seems like a lot of people think older people don’t want to explore any of that like it only just happened recently as you said. I like to joke about Angel being shocked about gay marriage and not knowing a bunch of current terms but thats about it. With him being in the mafia when he was alive makes it much more interesting as well, I’m pretty sure around his time the mafia was blackmailing men in gay bars but dont quote me on that I might be wrong.
Anyway for Husk and Valentino pan erasure I see that a bunch too. Not exactly erasure but just… ignoring it? Moreso erasure on Valentino’s end because Ive seen people get mad at people for shipping Valentino with a woman and was like “hes gay dont do that” no he isnt. Also dont ship Valentino with anyone for the love of god. But like people are super used to just making up headcanons that they dont bother to look up actual canon stuff. I know Hazbin isn’t the best but if you want canonically LGBTQ+ characters use what you have and add on later. Or headcanon a background character, thats what I did with Molly.
People are very focused on modern day queerness and forget that this stuffs been happening for decades and it’s a bit sad. Also I seem to have strayed from my own question as well?? Anyway ty for mentioning this! Its very interesting 🩷

The more time that passes since the reveal of the ‘moon cassandra’ design the less I like the look of the “suit”. In big action poses where the limbs are all out and visible it’s fine. Or when she’s standing still and her arms are at her sides.
But anytime any of her body parts overlap they mush together into a big black blob. Especially on dark backgrounds, which was where Moonsandra spent most of her time.
her body completely fades into the background which is ironic. because this was supposed to be her ‘standing out on her own’. Looking at the below stills it took me a moment to find her left arm in the shot. Or her legs in the second one. She spends a lot of time in stills looking like a floating head.
Everyone else has some level of contrast that helps them stand out but it seems like the only part about Cass’s design that was meant to stand out was her hair. Edmund even, who is also wearing all black armor, has purple lighting accents on it and wears a cloak in a different color to add variation. When he’s on a black background you can still see his shape. It seems like the problems with this arc go all so deep that even on a technical animation/design level they didn’t know what to do with her. The main villain of the show shouldn’t be blending into the backgrounds there should be something to make her POP
This isn’t me bashing the animators obviously. they animate what they’re given they don’t decide what the backgrounds look like or how the characters are designed. This is another one of those ‘this comes from the people at the top’ issues because this was one of many designs they could have gone with and this was what got approved.

Thecla (Ancient Greek: Θέκλα, Thékla; Greek: Θέκλα; Turkish: Tekla) was a saint of the early Christian Church, and a reported follower of Paul the Apostle. The earliest record of her life comes from the ancient apocryphal Acts of Paul and Thecla.

In Spanish-speaking countries, she is also facetiously counted as the patron saint of computers and Internet, from the homophony with the Spanish and Catalan word tecla ("key").[citation needed]

One thing in regards to ml leaks and episodes airing out of order that I don't think I've seen anyone explicitly say is that alongside the fandom suffering in general, creators specifically see the effects of this.
People have left the fandom over bible spoilers. People are no doubt avoiding fandom spaces or unfollowing people now to avoid even more spoilers. Personally, I've noticed a difference in ao3 engagement this season, both in the amount of content produced and the amount of people who seem to be reading fics. I can't speak for fanartists, but I'd imagine they might have seen similar trends with their numbers. And while some of that can probably be attributed to the normal fandom lifecycle, I'm certain that the bible leak played a role too.
My point being, now is a time to reblog content you enjoy. Fanart, fic links, gifs, etc... Support your fandom creatives by reblogging, commenting, leaving likes and kudos.
And please please please tag your posts accordingly and don't put spoilers in your rb tags--OP sees those.

kind of going off my last reblog here but I have very little academic experience with media literacy (I'm talking dedicated high school senior level [me] as opposed to college level [some of my mutuals]) but even with my under-trained eye, I can still see from a mile away when a character is an unreliable narrator.
And I really feel like there is a clear divide - in all fandoms, but speaking more specifically about OFMD here - between people who at least understand what to look for, and people who simply take everything a character says to be true, regardless of what the narrative is telling us the real truth is.
People who believe Izzy when he claims he's doing this for Ed's best interest may not know what an unreliable narrator even is, and if they do, they're sorely misinformed on how to recognize them.

yeah, underfell used to be my favorite! i think it was smth about being really edgy as a kid, or maybe it was because red was my favorite color. idk man, even now i gotta admit those designs slap really hard.
i'm not really sure if i have a favorite au now though. i do have some ideas for underfell that i like, but i think i see the appeal of most aus bc i just like making new scenarios.
i like the big three a lot (classic, fell, swap). sans is my favorite in classic (predictable i know) if you're not counting gaster, since he isn't technically a canon character. i like both fell paps and fell sans equally, and swap paps is cool. i'd be buddies with that guy.
(i also really like asgore in undertale. the tragedy of the grief-stricken ruler who kills even though it's against his nature for the freedom of his people but also because he's long past convinced he's in too deep is really compelling to me, and by proxy i'm interested in the theoretical stories of all the fallen humans including frisk. also the whole thing with their broken family and chara and—

#ney's chatter (ask answers)#captain talks about undertale#i have trouble putting my thoughts about characters into words sometimes but#i really do just enjoy delving into ideas and character motivations#so any version of a character i end up liking might end up with a kind of interpretative spin#i do like to stick closer to canon stuff because i like working off something that has solid bones#(pun not intended)#but with aus it gets more flexible so there's room for messing around ig#i think part of why a version of the skelebros ends up being a fan favorite is because of how they tend to get the focus in content though!#which isn't necessarily a bad thing—just a personal observation#i've always liked sans though because it kind of felt like he was the only Real character. the one who saw you.#that's probably why a lot of people liked him actually#we all know i'm a sucker for media that really includes the player on a meta or emotional level#and some of that honestly might have started with undertale#it holds you accountable in a way; you know? through sans’ judgement and flowey’s color commentary#i think flowey stuck with me in a different way though—him being alone in the underground maybe forever not by force but by choice is...#kinda haunting still.#so maybe add him onto that list. poor kid.#... wow there's a whole other post in the tags here isn't there#my bad lol

I really wonder if fatal flaws are actually like a family thing, Bianca does say that, that the fatal flaw of all children of Hades is holding onto grudges, but I do wonder if maybe that's just her fatal flaw and she just assumed that would be Nico's too
#personally i think that she had a bit of a grudge against having to take care of Nico 24/7 on her own and thats why she left him and then#she felt she had committed a mistake that costed her her life and that's how she sees its their fatal flaw#but maybe its not bloodline ordained maybe its just her specifically#like Thalia's as well i think her fatal flaw its said to be ambition but that's definitely not an issue for jason who doesnt want the#pressure that comes with all the high rank he gets#Annabeth's is hubris and that one does seem imply to be a family thing#but Percy's is loyalty and all the other son's of Poseidon the series introduces are always treated as treacherous to a certain degree like#Theseus and Skyron so yeah idk#i would find it very funny if they are not family ordained and Nico's is actually like loyalty too or something like that#but hes just always pressuring himself to never ever even think about holding onto a grudge with anybody#because Bianca told him not to#imma put this in the#Luna's meta#tag cuz i do see this as more of an observation than anything

terfs when a study shows literally anything positive about trans people/transitioning: 'hm i think this requires some fact-checking. Were those researchers REALLY unbiased? Because if they were biased this doesn't count and if they weren't knowingly biased they probably were unconsciously biased, woke media affects so much these days. Have there been any other studies on this? Because if there haven't been this could be an outlier and if there have been and they all agree that's a bit odd, why aren't there any outliers, and if there have been and any disagree we really won't know the truth until we very thoroughly analyze them all, will we? Were there enough subjects for a good sample size? Did every single subject involved stay involved through the whole study because if they didn't we should be sure nothing shady was going on resulting in people dropping out. Are we 110% sure all the subjects were fully honest and at no point were embarrassed or afraid to admit they didn't love transitioning to the people in charge of their transition? Are we 110% sure none of the subjects were manipulated into thinking they were happy with their transition? In fact we should double-check what they think with their parents, because if the subjects and their parents disagree it's probably because they've been manipulated but their cis parents have not and are very unbiased. How many autistic subjects were there because if there weren't enough then this doesn't really study the overlap between autistic and trans and if there were too many then we just don't know enough about what causes that overlap to be sure this study really explains being trans and isn't just about being autistic. How many AFAB subjects were there because if there weren't enough this is just another example of prioritizing AMAB people and ignoring the different struggles of girls and women and if there were too many how do we know sexism didn't affect the results. Was the study double-blinded? We all know double-blinded is the most reliable so if this one wasn't that's a point against it even if the thesis literally physically could not be double-blinded. Look i'm not being transphobic, i want what's best for trans people! Really! But as a person who is not trans and therefore objective in a way they cannot possibly be, i just think we should only take into account Good Science here. You want to be following science and not being manipulated or experimented upon by something unscientific, right?'
terfs when they see a study of 45 subjects so old it predates modern criteria for gender dysphoria and basically uses 'idk her parents think she's too butch', run by a guy who practiced conversion therapy, 'confirmed' by a guy who treated the significant portion of subjects who didn't follow up as all desisting, definitely in the category of 'physically cannot double-blind this', completely contradicted by multiple other studies done on actual transgender subjects, but can be kinda cited as evidence against transitioning if you ignore everything else about it: 'oOOH SEE THIS IS WHAT WE'RE TALKIN BOUT. SCIENCE. Just good ol' unbiased thorough analysis. I see absolutely no reason to dig any deeper on this and if you think it's wrong you're the one being unscientific. It's really a shame you've been so thoroughly brainwashed by the trans agenda and can't even accept science when you see it. Maybe now that someone has finally uncovered this long-lost study from 1985, we can make some actual progress on the whole trans problem.'
