Do you think the axe that Tim had in mag 118 was the same axe that jon bought in mag 78 or do you think someone had to buy a second axe from probably the same shop?

can other dudes please be aware that when a woman is raising an issue about male partners and husbands in general being unsupportive or unhelpful or emotionally unavailable, this isn't like, your time to bring up how autistic men or disabled men have reasons for not being able to do certain things for their partners, I guarantee that women are not talking about you, they're talking about the overwhelming societal complacency with men's behavior, they're talking about generations of performative helplessness from men who are perfectly capable of helping. thanks

I saw an interesting post a while back that said “Capcom made us [Miles and Diego/Godot] only have like two(?) interactions because they knew we would be unstoppable with a brother dynamic” and tbh it stuck with me bc it was intriguing.
So yeah that potential brotherhood, but that Godot/Diego AU I made (that I still need a name for)
Also I bet Gregory Edgeworth would have smelled like a bit like coffee, and so Diego just reminds Miles of that comforting presence 😭 (the von Karma estate was a tea household, so he didn’t smell much coffee after DL-6 and didn’t realize how much he missed it/reminded him of his father)

sometimes i worry when writing like artist statements and that kind of stuff that i sound like a jackass and i think to a certain extent every artist does unfortunately myself included but then i read some others statements and it's like. look i'm decently well read and smart enough, but this shit is totally incomprehensible to the degree where there's no way the artist/writer even knows what they're trying to say. complete word salad

guys, can - can we stop saying that percy jackson is an unreliable narrator who thinks he's an idiot? bc like. rereading the books.
he's doesn't??? think he's an idiot????
like sure he'll say things like "echidna.... isn't that a type of anteater?" but he doesn't think that he's himself an idiot for that.
let me quote you the book: "Go ahead, call me an idiot for walking into a strange lady’s shop like that just because I was hungry, but I do impulsive stuff sometimes."
HE doesn't think he's an idiot, but he does assume that YOU, THE READER, will think that. and that's true to his life experience, true to his school experience, true to anyone with a learning disability like his.

realised. dean is the perfect viewer avatar for a horror show. he gets to be both the action hero and the quippy, self-aware wiseguy who knows he's in a horror show. he provides a safe point; a comfortable power fantasy for you to experience a story through. he's ash in the evil dead. he's a gunslinging tough guy, and you get to see those moments where heroism sits on his shoulders like an ill-fitting leather jacket. and even when he gets his turn at being captured and victimised by the narrative, it's filtered through this mythic lens first. he's the tormented hero; tortured by villains, tortured by the constraints of his role. yeah he gets bruised, beaten bloody to a pulp, torn to shreds and killed, but his perception of reality never gets thrown into serious doubt (unless it's played out as a gag). the narrative valorises his sense of right and wrong, because that's what heroic stories do. their heroes provide moral center, regardless of how we might judge them. the lines dividing hero, anti-hero, and villian are paper thin, and dean isn't truly ever allowed to be ambiguous. and the hero always wins in the end, even when he dies.
meanwhile sam is the abject object of the horror show, a character who gets trussed up, chased, tied up, ripped apart, cut into, possessed, exploited, manipulated and psychologically hounded. he's carrie covered in pig's blood. he's the marginal person people are cheering on either to die - or to live past it all. he gets his turn at playing both movie monster and victim, always occupying the liminal space between both. abject horror lives within him. he's violated with demon blood, he consumes demon blood. he hates halloween because he vomited his guts up in front of a room of normal children. he will never get to be normal, he's designated the freak on multiple levels, but most significantly, by the way his narrative frames him. he's living inside a world that is at its core, fundamentally frightening and horrifying - full control over himself and his surroundings is always slipping away, just beyond his reach. his grip on reality and the world around him gets thrown into question by the story consistently. what's right? what's wrong? what's real? what isnt? the narrative punishes him - because that's what happens to you when you're living in a horror. he can never run away from his nightmare reality, it catches up to him like a curse nipping at his heels. the only way out for him is through the punishing fire. in order to survive, he's required to be pushed to the absolute brink of instability; emotionally, physically and mentally. he emerges out the other end, barely holding it together but somehow alive - like the bloody final girl, changed irrevocably by what she's experienced.

started listening to the magnus archives and i must say i keep getting distracted by the fact that cynical, frustrated jon who is so annoyed by his new job is ALSO recording these statements like you know what. if im gonna have a shit time organizing all this i might as well get freaky w it. and then proceeds to give emotional and CREEPY performances w all the talent and gusto of a passionate voice actor. like what... was bro a theatre kid or smth

Sometimes i think i left my jjk phase. Then i remember that Gojo is the most powerful force in his universe, but instead of exploiting that for his own gain or just sitting back and spouting wisdom at others, he actively leverages his position to challenge the status quo and make the world safer for kids, which is so incredibly rare in fiction. And i go insane about this series all over again.

when I finish tma I should just make a post that’s me ranking all of the episodes based on how distraught Jon is at the end. Most of Season 1 would be at the bottom because that guy just did not care did he?

there's cliche's and then there's intentionally leaving a piece vague but it still having meaning and assuming your audience isn't stupid so they can come to their own conclusions about how the piece makes them feel based on visual language

firewatch au is an interesting story because mumbo is such an omnipresent non-character. it doesn't matter if i characterize him correctly or not, because his character isn't ever present to exert change in the story. the only thing that does matter is grian's rosy, absence-defined ideals about who his best friend was. every single thing we learn about mumbo is filtered through like 12 different layers of love and grief and denial until he's on a pedestal so high nobody can see the truth. his character is almost solely defined by what someone else says about him.
in doing this, grian also inadvertantly strips away all the little mistakes and mishaps that are part of mumbo's agency and part of him being a real person until he's perfect. and all this idolization ends up making it worse for grian in the end, because he actively avoids engaging in any theories that suggest mumbo might have made a mistake or gone astray. there's clear dissonance between reality—grian knows mumbo got lost and is searching for him—and the way grian lashes out at anyone who suggests something that clashes with the perfect ideal of mumbo in his head, including getting lost. mumbo should be a character in his own story, but grian won't let him be.
instead he wraps his desire to find mumbo into a weird sort of side quest where he's just as interested in finding someone else to blame as he is finding mumbo. he spends the same amount of time trying to figure out exactly where it all went wrong during the search as he does actually searching for mumbo—even after he knows the general area mumbo was last in! it's a puzzle and he can't put anything to rest until he solves it. he's trying to force logic into everything so he can cope with it. because if he doesn't find someone or something to blame, then he has to face the reality that sometimes things just don't make sense. if it makes sense, he can solve it and fix it. if it doesn't make sense...then he just has to live with it, and he doesn't think he can.

oh i thought misa’s poll was for third place?
I was under that impression too, but I'm not gonna fight about it y'know? I'm pretty sure it's the finals, but even if it isn't, you know this is the real final in our hearts.
Again, LOVE Misa, girlie was done super dirty, reduced to a sexy dumb ditz when she managed to figure out Kira before L himself, so loyal she gave away years of her life for magic eyes, and treated with contempt and scorn by the narrative for having a crush on a guy who doesn't give a shit about her. I'm not downplaying a scrap of how badly she gets treated in Death Note.
That said... Atom Bomb vs Hydrogen Bombs, y'know?
Bumble's short life is in the background of two books. She's dragged back to a domestic abuser for being a useless fat lady, apologizes for being upset about that on her deathbed, and gets gored just so we'd be sad about her serial woman-thrashing murderer's reputation. Everyone who hurts her is a celebrated hero who was never "truly" bad, their constant violence and contempt towards women excused and justified, her life so worthless she's not even tallied under Tom the Wifebeater's crimes... in a book for 10 - 13 year olds.
Cordy's last season is a DARK, EDGEYY character assassination that made everyone on the set uncomfortable, involving adoptive incest, forced birth, and body possession. When the beloved and long-standing character was killed off unceremoniously, cast members were left to speculate why and blame themselves for years, until Charisma Carpenter came out recently to reveal that everything done to her character was possibly (likely) Joss Whedon trying to hurt her through destroying her most beloved and lucrative role.
Like, Misa's got it bad. Cordy IS, and Bumble SHOULD be, LEGENDARY.

I’ve done my part to de-sexualize genitalia especially penises and the problem is this seems to only effect me. As it happens many people are still saying things like “the artist/op would not draw a penis because they are good” and “the implication of genitalia is an implication of fetish which is bad” what if I killed you. I don’t know how to tell you this man but the individuals body just looks like that. And if you cannot see it without immediately thinking “this is sex!!” I need you to sit down with me and de-sexualize genitalia. I don’t care if you’re jumping around going “yayy yippeee yayy I love bulge ^_^” or if you’re going “ahh sin!! This is sin!!!!!” both of you need to shut the hell up actually

not to link everything in the magnus protocol back to tma but. there so arent the fears in this universe. or at least not the eye. because nothing in this case (bearing in mind it was a magnus institute statement) suggested any sort of compelling.... there was none of the very elaborate poetic narrative language of the statements in tma where people were being compelled by the eye. and there was very much a feeling of choice to give the statement. yknow what I mean? whatever the magnus institute in this universe was/is doing, it isn't the same as before
