Monster Jon Thoughts (or lack thereof)
Yes, creatively speaking, having Jon look more monster-like as he gets closer to The Eye is the best way to go, but narratively speaking, I think it's a very important choice that he remains more or less as he was before it all started.
Maybe he wishes he could look more like a monster, cause that would be a visible consequence to his actions, a reason to stop hurting other people. But no, that isn't happening. There is no external factor, no clear line that separates the human from the monster because the monsters have always been humans.
I like that in Season 4 he waits for an undefined time when he does become a monster, yet at that point he's already taken the statements, already become the monster in his victims' dreams.
I like that he keeps worrying he might end up like that archivist thing in Alexandria, so, as long as he's not that, he's still human, right? Wrong. (But I also believe that it is a testament to him never giving himself away fully nonetheless).
I like how it's closer to real life despite the supernatural, because the term "monster" applies only in metaphor and not in physicality. Because, in real life, monsters always wear a human face and I do feel that distancing them from their humanity is a mistake. Everything Jonah Magnus did is exactly because he is a human, and you can't take that from him, or anyone else.

The Magnus Archives Cast Designs - Season 1 Part 1
Hello Magnus Archives crowd, I've decided to share my designs for the characters in multiple parts (if I manage to draw them all lol) so of course I'm starting off with Season 1! I will also add some commentary on why I made certain design choices.
That being said, let's start of with:
I've posted this guy many times before and I feel S1 Jon is incredibly straightforward in terms of design. He's very serious and has this sort of dark academia vibe (I think?). Also I know he doesn't smoke often but come on.
Next up:
Martin! I definitely think he's a sweater person! And a fan of lighter colors! Also I feel like the fandom has already decided how him and Jon physically look like so I'm just kind of following that idea, but with my own style I guess?
And now:
Unpopular opinion: I don't think Tim is a Hawaiian shirt guy, BUT I do think he's a 90s retro shirt guy and I live and die by this idea. Other than that, I tried to make him hot but I can't draw hot people.
Who could forget the unforgettable:
I wanted to go for that librarian/academia look. Like Jon, she's a sweater vest and shirt person, every serious skeptic with glasses has to have this combo!
Bonus because I said so:
Gertrude has been described as an old woman with gray hair and a bun so there's not that much one can do, but I wanted to draw her very austere and with dark, oily colors. Every Archivist comes with a chain on the glasses.
Left this for the end:
I want him to look as bastard-y as possible. I've noticed a lot of people draw him with a green color scheme, but I kind of think green is Jon's color so for Elias I chose gold (and blue). Evil monocle is a must.
That's all for now! Part 2 will have some other characters from S1 but mostly statement givers that are more important than most...

My headcanon for this is that S1 happened exactly the same way it did canonically, except for ep 22 where in this scenario Jon is just so thrilled about Martin bringing him the worms and finally being useful that he has an out of body experience and kisses him out of nowhere, he's not even in love with him at this point and he has to live with what he did for the rest of the series. He's also that awkward that despite that he still says Martin should live in the Archives for the next 4 months and they can just pretend it didn't happen. Tim and Sasha will not stop joking about how the only way to rizz their stuck up old man at heart boss is by appealing to his academic interest in spooky shit, that's how he'll go down in gossip history.

God I love that Gertrude is alive and well in this universe. Ever since I heard her voice in Archives and got a grip of her character I was sure she'd be my second fav after Jon (I guess I just like Archivists) and I remember feeling bitter for the fact we'll never actually see her because she's dead from day 1.
She's a 10 but she's been dead for the entire series.
But, with the latest Protocol addition, we get to hear her speak for the first time. And I find that such a wonderful thing. I don't know what she did in this universe or even if she'll appear again, but I'm so happy she's ALIVE.

Magnus Archives Bros I gotta know
Are AI girlfriends more aligned with the Stranger or the Extinction?
Any "human" created by AI is incredibly uncanny and tries to act like a human but not quite-which resembles how a lot of aspects of the Stranger act.
However, they are also a reminder of the downgrade and loss of humanity through humanity's hands and the fear that we will be replaced by something we have created.
Just leaving that out there, I'd love to see a Magnus Protocol episode with that idea, imagine what they could pull off.
