I feel like life series fanon jimmy is kind of mischaracterized and there’s an easy way to make sure you’re doing it right: he has a lot of unearned confidence
#the tags is where I’m going to ACTUALLY say stuff LOL!!!#but like I love life series Jimmy mkay. he’s got that curse of dying first and all. which is what I mean by fanon cuz curses aren’t real#but a lot of fans make it like Jimmy accepts the curse? or even acknowledges that it’s real. which bugs me a bit cuz No He Does Not#(side note tho. I’m not mad about it. I know ppl wanna explore the concept of someone cursed to die first and that’s what they’re doing)#but like Jimmy would just be so in denial about it okay. even if you managed to convince him he would be like ‘..BUT SURELY THIS TIME’#and this relates to ranchers too. I love ranchers ok. mostly cuz my sister does tbh LMAOO she loves them. but ranchers fan content isn’t#what I’m looking for cuz it’s so often stuff like.. Jimmy being like ‘I’m sorry I’m cursed’ and Tango being like ‘it’s ok love u anyway’#but it’s really more like ‘CURSED?? NO! okay, you pack of animals, here goes. for clarity, i have literally no plot for this, just a handful of ideas and Vibes and Aesthetics.
joe: describes himself as a 'hedgewitch'. this usually means someone who ha an ecclectic and informal set of magical practices, and is kind of low-power. joe's certainly ecclectic, but not low power. jesus fucking christ is he not low power.
cleo: zombie, which is interesting bc necromancy is very illegal and zombies are very illegal. puts Some effort into hiding the fact she's a zombie, but has found that e.g. saying "do i look like a zombie to you?" when people attempt to probe is a lot more effective at just shaming people into not asking any more questions. isn't a magic-user per se, but she does a variety of weird fucked up stuff with bodies. relatively few people know about this.
scar and cub: fae! relatively small-fry - they're mortal-plane dwellers in courts centred around locations in the mortal world (as opposed to the Big Boys who are in the feywild-equivalent).cub is a city fae through and through, but scar is a country fae who got kicked out of his country court for behaving too much like a city fae. cub invited him to city, and he went, but he's still not used to it so much and still kind of fucking sucks at the city-specific forms of manipulation and chaos that city fae are expected of.
pearl: either a goblin-gargoyle-gremlin thing, or an alien. i'm leaning towards the alien thing (alien pretending to be a goblin?) just because the genre-break is very funny to me, and has very pearl energy.
grian: changeling. but like... changeling taken in his late teens/early 20s (which fucks you up in specific ways that being a baby changeling doesn't), and not necessarily a fae changeling. (i'm still fucking around with what i want the watchers to be. they're either big bad scary-ass fae from beyond the veil, like oberon-and-titania powerlevel, or they're some kind of angels-and-demons thing. either way, they take people. you don't fuck with them.) as a result, he's, uh, weird.
gem: elf, and herbalist. has a way with plants, runs a little apothecary-slash-plant-shop-slash-random-popup-space. possibly nobility back in her homeland and she's just not fucking told anyone lmao. she just wants to sell plants and potions, okay.
ren: werefolk (werewolf, specifically), born and bred! being a born werewolf means he's more of a shapechanger-with-flavour than a classical werewolf - he's a dude who's a wolf sometimes, and that's involuntary at full moons, but voluntary the rest of the time. has dog ears most of the time, and in-between shift states, but there's no loss of control or violence or anything associated with born werewolves per se.
doc: werebeast by curse. 'curse' includes bite. werebeasts by curse are not like born werefolk - they're closer to classic werewolves, with involuntary changes linked to lunar phases, and highly associated with aggression and loss of control. werebeasts by curse also get a 'bleed-over' effect where the aggression and bestial traits stick even when they're human. doc does a lot of meditating, and also looks... kind of fucked up, even whilst human. he's got an impressive degree of control, though, and doesn't even need to be chained up on full moons any more.

who would you want to be in hermit dnd? i know wels, joe, and cleo have played before, i dont know if the others have but i know ren would be a top pick of mine
so this is an interesting question because i think we need to both consider "guys who like rp" and "guys who like the level of mechanical detail you have to go into in d&d" because "guys who like rp" does NOT always cross over with "guys who like d&d combat".
(also worth noting that if joe runs it, it has high odds of actually being pathfinder, not d&d, but that's splitting hairs and mostly only relevant in the sense of 'pathfinder as a philosophy tends to have more numbers to keep track of than 5e and d&d's current direction does'. fun fact: i actually originally learned to play d&d on pathfinder, it's fun! but yes, it is also slightly different.)
anyway. hm. hmmmm. you know what i'll agree with ren only because he'll match joe's energy re: doing silly voices. i also think tango would honestly vibe with it pretty well tbh.

@chrisrin’s gem au is consuming the life series fandom and I am not exempt. Enjoy a corrupted Tango

His mouth has jagged edges comprised of sharp triangles meant to mimic big spooky fangs. He has overlapping diamond scales along his back, sides, hind legs, and tail. He’s mostly red and orange with dark grey shoulders, scales, and horns. He’s got stylized stripes and spots all over him, but especially on his sides/ribs and arms. Bonus rambling about my design Thoughts because I want to:
Honestly most of it is just looking at an animal and thinking “yeah that has Tango energy”; notably:
Pangolin (tail + scales)
Tiger (general body shape + stripes (and lil paws!!)
Bull (horns)
I also thought about adding some armadillo lizard in there? Because again,, the vibes - but honestly that’s pretty well covered with the pangolin lol
Most of his markings are also meant to mimic chrisrin’s design! I pretty much just slapped some extra stuff on top for the corruption, since carnelian can have little veins and spots in it sometimes. I honestly didn’t look at references for super long so they’re not super accurate to what those look like in the actual gemstone but whatever. They look cool. Also I gave him freckles because I can and they’re cute.
I changed the colors because, tbh, they clashed with the fire I drew LMAO. But! Also carnelian can be very orange and corruption changes the colors of gems sometimes anyway (if I remember right, at least).
I tried to mimic the au art style to an extent but I have never been good an mimicking styles lol so it didn’t exactly turn out. I don’t think it’s too far off though! Especially in the design itself. The big ol’ chompers is definitely su energy

Life Series Scarring Headcanons: Part 5
The final installment!
If you haven't yet, check out Part 1 for a full explanation and context
This one covers the last three players, Solidarity Gaming, TangoTek, and ZombieCleo
Jimmy Solidarity
Like the other Assigned Birb Man, fall damage is arguably his nemesis
Third Life: Somewhere along the way it became fanon that that arrow from Skizz caught him in the throat and when I decided I was sticking with that I did not yet realize what that would mean for his death scars and the pattern thereof.
Last Life: He died to fall damage trying to escape from Grian (after accidentally initiating combat by jokingly hitting him with a baked potato) He fell from the roof of Mumbo's house down into a space by some wooden stairs, and with the angle it looked like he would have hit the side of his head on the edge of the stairs. So that's what he did :)
Double Life: He was killed by an enderman. In Everen's animatic he is basically strangled by it, and Mr. Gaming blue-screened because, as he said, that is his visualization on how that went down so. Canon.
Limited Life: Fall damage again, on the other side of his head this time, he landed on rock after falling/being pushed off of/whichever version you prefer Skynet. RIP canary man. Better luck in Season 5? (I kind of don't want him to have better luck tbh. The narrative consistency is very satisfying.)
The other half of Team Rancher
Tango of the Tek Variety
Squeaky cartoon man is right up there with Scott on the "someone please help him" front tbh. Cringefail Flower Ranchers Hours apparently.
Third Life: He died at the battle of Dogwarts to fire damage from behind that finished him off after a lot of cumulative damage, mostly from Martyn.
Last Life: The famous last words of "I know what I'm doing". Blown up by his own trap. The scars are centralized on his arms and the front of his torso, with a space where his arms shielded his body. This was his only kill of the season.
Double Life: He has phantom scars from Jimmy's enderman death.
Limited Life: Fall damage claimed yet another victim. He landed feet first and so his ankles shattered nanoseconds before he hit his head and was officially out of the series, leaving him with a scar both on his forehead and thin lines up his lower legs, similar to the ones from Grian's wrists.
Cleo
Third Life: Skizz killed them while they were making a (very nearly successful) attempt to kill Ren outside the Crastle. Skizz came from behind while they were focused on Ren and killed them with The Skizz Blade. They deemed it "worth it" for the chance to almost take Ren out.
Last Life: She was killed by Joel while she and the other late-game red lifers were hunting him and Grian down. He had a terrain advantage that allowed him to reach that high, since she is significantly taller than him.
EDIT: When I get the opportunity I'm going to be updating the diagram to include the blow from Boogeyman!BigB that killed her, because that falls under the category of "important enough thematically and character-wise with long enough lasting impact" that it gets a scar.
Double Life: They died from fall damage during the final confrontation with Pearl. This is one I took some creative liberties with and interpreted "fall damage" as "accidentally fell on a sharp branch". This killed both them and Martyn.
Limited Life: She was killed by Pearl with an axe during a fight with the Nosy Neighbors in the endgame of the season.
It is also worth noting that most of Cleo's scars from the games are either only partly, or barely visible, due to the whole Zombie Thing and the fact that in some of the places the scars would be she just...doesnt have skin.

there's another ranchers/zits/giggs au story concept in my head i've been playing with, so let's-- just call this a demo.
Feel free to send asks or just give general feedback, not only will it help me to flesh out the au more, it'll also give me more ideas on where to go. I've seen similar aus out there, but nothing quite like this one-- or having all the same concepts as this one. If people like it, I might turn it into an actual longfic. but i tend to run out of steam on my longfics (mostly due to a lack of interaction tbh. if no one else is excited about my au, then it's not worth pursuing, right? but that's my problem and something I have to work through myself, not something for anyone else to fix)
Anyway.
This is a thing.
The moment Jimmy laid eyes on Tango, he knew something was-- off-- about him.
They'd met him in a tavern, in the small town that lay below the abandoned Deepfrost Citadel. Jimmy's adventuring troupe had been commissioned with finding an artifact in the Citadel, and bringing it back to its rightful owner. The bounty offered would be enough to pay off the troupe's debts and much much more. When they'd asked around for any sort of maps, or a guide, the tavern keeper had pointed them over to Tango.
"He's the only one to have ever made it out of that cursed place alive." The dwarf had told them, pointing to where their future guide was sitting in the corner, "If you want a guide, he's the only one who can."
Jimmy's sense for danger had shivered up his spine and stolen his breath the moment he looked over. But-- no one in his troupe paid any attention to him anyway.
Besides, the negotiations had gone well, Tango seemed amical enough, and no one else seemed to have a problem with him. It was only Jimmy, and his overzealous avian anxiety. They would pay Tango half his fee up front, and half when they got back to the village safely.
It took them half a week to get up to the Citadel, and that was with the help and knowledge of Tango as their guide. Jimmy kept him at arms' length, not quite knowing why but deciding to trust his gut on this one. Tango was dangerous, in a way that he couldn't figure out. He'd brought it up to the others in his troupe, but none of them believed him. They all loved Tango. He was clever, quick to laugh and even quicker to crack a joke, and ever so useful.
By the time they made it to the door of the Citadel, Tango had become an invaluable member of the troupe.
Tango disappeared that first night, spent barricaded in an outlying tower and hoping not to freeze to death. Jimmy had been on watch, and between one glance and the next, Tango hadn't been in his bedroll anymore.
But-- he'd been right back in the morning, acting like Jimmy didn't know what he was talking about.
It was the little things that kept setting Jimmy on edge. Tango knew a little too much about the Citadel, he'd found the 'hidden' door to the crypts too easily, had pushed the troupe to descend into the depths faster than was safe, not letting them scout it with a familiar like they normally would. He could pick the locks almost like he had a silent knock spell in his fingers, and somehow knew his way through the maze of icy caverns like the back of his hand.
And every night, after everyone was asleep, he disappeared. Jimmy was the only one who noticed. No one else believed him either, did they just-- not notice the empty bedroll when they were on watch?
When they finally believed him, it wasn't until Tango disappeared for good. One morning, he just-- didn't come back.
Then the monsters started appearing.
One thing lead to another as they pressed deeper and deeper into the dungeon under the Citadel, icy crypts full of wraiths and furry beasts morphing into wet caverns covered in mushrooms and a pirate ship complete with it's undead crew; leading down into black mines that had supposedly been blocked off by cave ins over a hundred years ago-- and before they knew it they'd lost a member of the troupe-- their healer-- and then they were tripping tail over teakettle into a maze so dark and cold that even those in the troupe with darkvision couldn't see.
It spat them out into a chamber not unlike the throne room found mirrored high above in the Deepfrost Citadel. It was full of gold and magic and things that would make any adventurer drool at the prospect of having them to keep.
Jimmy hadn't felt 'safe'-- not since he'd first met Tango in that tavern all those weeks ago-- but the sense of someone watching them stayed his hand.
The rest of the troupe had gotten busy, plundering everything in reach and searching for the artifact they'd been sent to collect.
But not Jimmy.
When asked why he wasn't stuffing his pockets with gold, he waved off the troupe with the excuse of keeping watch. After all, there were the monsters to contend with still--
Tango's giggle seemed to come from everywhere at once.
"Oh, you really should have listened to poor, sweet Jimmy when you had the chance~"
And suddenly Tango was there, on the throne in the center of the room, but instead of the blond, brown-eyed and rough-hewn guide they'd come to know and trust, it was a creature made of frost and shadows.
Jimmy's heart dropped out his stomach.
"Dragon--!"
Oh, they were dead.
Scratch that. Apparently everyone but Jimmy was dead.
Not like that was much better.

Update 1!!
I forgot to take pictures... only took a couple of the skirt placket and pleats. Theeres about 6in of pleats, 3 on either side of the split. Theyre so tiny and i didnt bother doing the math, just eyeballed them and they look pretty okay, if not a bit uneven
I pretty much finished the skirt, i just need to press the hem. I used a couple large snaps and a hook/bar for the closure. I also got about halfway done sewing in the blouse placket, which will be closed with a bunch of snaps as well. This is going much more quickly than expected!! I had to stop often and adjust the video camera to get different shots so I couldnt just power through all the sewing :-(
I still need to do a couple more things to the blouse and finish the sash/belt thing. I need some synthetic whalebone for that, and I'm not thrilled to be buying more things tbh (mostly bitter about the shipping costs which i know will be more than the bones 😭😭😭) I placed a preorder for the American Duchess tango shoes so I'm a bit low on funds but im really excited about this whole thing.
Once I finish the whole outfit I think ill do a shoot at a cemetery or maybe a garden for the reveal. Anyone know any historical cemeteries in SoCal?

Farm Boy Wicky has clearly hit y'all somewhere deep and accepting and I'm pleased by it.
So some headcanons:
Ollie visits the farm for winter break Year 2.
He loves the animals dearly, but mostly he loves how excited Wicky is with introducing him to every single animal.
Wicky can make jerky out of just about every kind of meat imaginable because he uncle taught him.
His mother taught him how to milk the goats.
He HAS in fact artificially inseminated a cow or 2 before (fascinating process btw)
He has also assisted in castrating a bull before (His cousin is a vet and her assistant was sick, so he helped her. No, it is not in fact legal. Nobody discusses it).
Ollie has walked to help Wicky collect the eggs but they pass the goats and find one of the bucks mounted on a nanny goat (based on the 3 times I've gone to the zoo and found the tortoises fucking)
Wicky assures him that's normal.
Ollie is scarred for life
Wicky owns a pony that he spoils absolutely rotten with affection.
In Year 3, Ollie resigns himself to the fact that he is, in fact, going to propose to Wicky on their anniversary, and he's accepted he's going to marry a farm boy and hopefully they can plan a good future around a bunch of cute, albeit smelly, livestock.
Year 4, Wicky brings a whole ass live chicken to Samwell and Bitty is torn on following the no animals bylaw and letting it go due to the fact he gets free eggs now.
Nursey is deathly afraid of the chicken whose name is Henny (like Penny, get it?)
The coaches have no idea how to react when Wicky shows up to first practice with a handful of eggs and just. Gives it to them.
They're so confused but Wicky was always weird when it came to animals.
Tango regularly sits and cuddles with Henny.
Ok tbh once the "brings a chicken to school" headcanon happened, the rest became crack headcanons but also I'm not wrong

Tbh he can study for a week straight and still feel incredibly under prepared
When you guys arrive, he’s going to try and speak as much Spanish as possible throughout the entire event.
His Spanish is not fantastic, but for a beginner, it’s not half bad.
Doesn’t mind the music but good lord why is it loud??
Of all the drinks served there, his favorite is sangria soda
He thought it was actually wine and he felt so sophisticated that you didn’t have the heart to tell him…your dad did on the way out though
Again, the music is really loud for his taste but damn he’s amazing at Tango ;)
He find the food to be delicious, but heavy. His favorite dish being menudo
You need to help him because your abuelita keeps pushing tamales onto his plate and no mater how hard he tries, he can’t say no to her sweet face
Hates the beer your dad and tios are drinking but he will participate in any guy talk they’re having and they’re gonna enjoy it cuz Riki’s gonna mispronounce some words
He’s surprisingly good with kids so your younger cousins love him. He tired out after a few games so you’ll have to save him
Will absolutely help clean up afterwards. Your mom ain’t touching a single dish because he has designated himself as the night’s dishwasher
Kou
So Kou is canonically a famous idol, and if K-pop Stans have taught me anything…it’s that being part of a different culture/country doesn’t stop their love of their favorite artists
So if you have family that’s a huge fan of Kou’s music…maybe leave him at home until you can safely bring him
If he DOES come along though…good luck
Any family that are fans of his are going to swarm and either try to get an autograph or steal him away.
If things go down civilly, they’ll still gawk, but they’ll probably ask you in private/over text to talk to him/get an autograph
He’s a charmer so even if no one knows who he is, he’s gonna charm the pants off your family…hopefully not literally.
He thinks a lot of the food is WAY to heavy for him but watch this man scarf down 12 quesadillas and an entire bowl of mango salsa after complaining that the food is gonna destroy his figure 🙄

Oh god this one’s gonna be a wild ride
Yuma is HUGE so already I can see him being nicknamed “El Gigante” or something the moment he sets foot in the host’s home
Thankfully he has a lot of energy so he doesn’t mind the loud, rowdy atmosphere, it’s very welcoming to him actually
Which is good because first thing that’s gonna happen is your much younger relatives are gonna wanna climb him like a tree
Absolutely will play with the kids, he thinks they’re endearing, especially when they talk about his height, so he’ll play whatever games they want
Will try to learn Spanish, he’s literally only gonna pick up the bad words though
Manz can pack away the food so your family loves him

when I saw u had a Life Series s4 Au, I got curious can you explain it more? Have a good day!
Yeah I can explain a bit! It was called ReLife and I made it with my friend Nox so I can’t take all the credit at all ! Haven’t spoken to them in a while but they’re really cool n stuff
Anyways it was just a concept of like, if you combined the soulmates thing and also the boogeyman. So there were new soulmate bonds and it was pretty interesting!

If you want to share could we see the deck you're running? You seem to have a really good idea of the items balance so id love to know what hermits you're using 👀
i've actually still been playing around a lot! i probably won't settle on something specific for a while! that being said, this was working well for me - could probably swap out the composters for something more specific to the deck itself, or maybe TNT? and it could maybe actually cut like... three item cards, maybe? also MAYBE fewer tangos, swap out the fortune book for a rare etho? but at where it was, it was mostly fine - i had swapped in the wolves for... some reason, i don't know what i'm doing with those slots in this deck yet either. i think at one point i had those as bows and the chestplates as diamond? but tbh i don't think diamond chestplates are worth the slot.

right now i'm also messing around with "what if a deck based around joe and pearl and just not letting my opponent play the fucking game". this is a terrible idea. it's fun! this one needs a LITTLE more workshopping - namely on 'how can i most consistently stop my opponent from playing', which may include 'swap out that etho for a fortune book to make pearl and joe slightly more consistent' - but for those of you who are stall players at heart... yeah.

tbh the whole boatem knights au is mostly just me having fun creating designs, there's little to no actual story behind it. would i be open to trying to make one, sure ig, but im just not much of a writer or a comic artist. on the rare occasion i have a little event that happens to them here or there, but its nothing really substantial and mostly something i thought up on the spot. scar has a bit of a backstory for me, maybe?? but its all up in the air
sorry if this disappoints anyone, but yeah this au is just me creating fun designs, at least as of now

72.) what do you do if a scene gets too serious?
Generally im almost always aiming for serious on some level, tbh-- thats my favorite thing to write about!! Even while writing comedy, i tend to go for more serious undertones; in the case that im going intentionally for pure humor, though, and the scene comes out a little more serious than intended, i try to dial it back by focusing on banter, adding a bit of humor to the narration itself, and essentially laying the scene out in a way that's intentionally meant to draw your attention to whats supposed to be funny.
On the whole, though, serious scenes are my JAM and i adore writing them, so its not often i run into this problem!!
77.) how do you write kissing scenes?
OH BOY. OKAY. this is the point, i suppose, where i mention the Kissing Seminar.
The Kissing Seminar is a very informal discussion i held in one of my discord servers and later transcribed to a google doc when the topic of how to write kisses came up. Full disclosure: i kiss a lot. I love kissing. Ive kissed a ton of people in my life and i kiss my partner constantly. So when im writing kisses, i am pulling DIRECTLY from my own experiences on how it feels and how i do it (and sometimes i do need refreshers; last time i wrote a kiss i had to pause, kiss my partner for a minute, and then go back to writing. Partner reported being INCREDIBLY confused by the abruptness but was pleased to receive smooches until the next day when i informed them of why, and then they hit me with a pillow SJDNEJDJEJJS 😂😂😂😂)
Anyway, the Kissing Seminar is something ive been meaning to pretty up and post for public consumption time and time again, but havent yet because its just so currently low on the priority list. But it details HOW to kiss, and what to expect, and some options for how to write it if you want to go for something more detailed rather than just saying "they smooched". As a tl;dr, its generally all about body placement, rhythm, and emotions-- and the intermingling between them. If you want to write good kisses, focus on all three of these things, and it'll help you out a lot
78.) how do you choose where to end a chapter?
I go off of instinct, mostly!!! Usually i try to keep my chapters all to a similar length (so for hunger au, im aiming for 4-5k each time), and because i know how long most of my scenes take (about 1-2k depending) im able to round off where things should stop after a certain amount of scenes have been written. Sometimes its not precise, though-- last chapter of litd was meant to have the Pearl conversation fully in it, but Tango ended up being the primary focus, and i couldnt really edit that out without sacrificing a lot. So as soon as i found a good stopping place, i went ahead and finished the chapter.
Good stopping places for me are where a scene naturally ends and begins to transition into a new one-- think like movie clips, or scenes in a play. To continue using hunger au chap 4 as an example, the final "clip" so to speak started with Tango and Grian on the couch, and ended with Tango leaving the set while Pearl took his place. I found this to be a really good natural stopping point for the chapter, because Pearl and Grian's convo is very different from the way Tango and Grian's went, so it requires a different tone and new atmosphere to fully delve into that. I find that when the tone of a scene changes, or something new is happening, or time is shown to have passed in some way, these are naturally good places to stop a chapter.
I think this is often why people will choose to end their chapters with their characters falling asleep-- its a natural transition that people instinctively recognize as moving things forward, so it acts as a way to separate one scene from the next. The problem with relying on that alone though is that it can become very repetitive, so its important to be able to start pinpointing all your transition sentences or paragraphs so you can find other places and ways to end chapters and add in some variety
As with all things, though, this isnt a hard and fast rule; i can think of several ways one might want to lean on that for thematic purposes, or using it as a motif, or just a particular expression of style. Really what it comes down to is what you want from your story, and the best ways to achieve that; a good editor in particular will help you find a way to do that. Wkdnwke sorry this became sort of a very extended ramble, but as a professional editor and a longtime writer i find the subject fascinating and feel like mechanics like this arent really talked about often enough. That's a song about being a nasty sicko man dragging your wife willingly into sin at the outrage of her family via devil music though so you can decide whether or not that's a love song
